Security forces recover 14 IEDs, huge cache of explosives from Jharkhand's Saranda forest
RANCHI: In yet another achievement by the security forces, as many as 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a huge cache of explosives weighing more than 50 kg were recovered during a search operation in the forests of Chitpil under Toklo Police Station in Chaibasa.
The IEDs were destroyed at the spot by the bomb disposal squad due to security reasons.
According to police, following a tip-off, a joint operation was launched involving personnel from Jharkhand Police and the CRPF's 60th Battalion. The operation was focused on forested and hilly areas near the Chaibasa–Seraikela border, a region known for frequent Maoist activity.
'During the search operation, the security forces discovered 14 powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted with an intent to ambush patrolling units. Due to security reasons, these IEDs were safely defused by the bomb disposal squad,' stated an official communique from Chaibasa Police.
In addition to that, an underground Maoist explosive storage site was found, containing 52 polybags filled with nearly 52 kgs of a white powder suspected to be ammonium nitrate — commonly used for making bombs by the Maoists, it said.

60 IEDs recovered from forest area of Gaya
Gaya: A joint team of central and state armed forces recovered 60 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the forest at Kachnar village under Chhakarbandha police station area of Sherghati subdivision of the district on Thursday evening. At a press conference on Friday, SSP Anand Kumar said, "Police got information about the IEDs planted under the ground from a Maoist sub-zonal commander of Magadh zone, Akhilesh Singh Bhokta alias Patarki, of village Kachnar, who surrendered on Thursday. Bhokta had been evading arrest for the last 10 years and carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh." "Bhokta was wanted in at least 17 Maoist-related violence cases lodged at different police stations in Gaya and Aurangabad districts. He had joined the Red outfit at the age 14 years." "He was involved in hanging four members of a family in Dumaria police station area in 2021, triggering IED explosion in Lutua police station area in Gaya in 2019 in which a police sub-inspector was martyred and two jawans sustained serious injuries, besides other crime incidents." "All facilities under the 'surrender and rehabilitation policy' of the govt will be provided to Bhokta," the SSP added.

Last rites of slain Maoist leader Gajerla Ravi held in his native Velishala village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district
Amid an outpouring of grief, the last rites of slain CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Gajerla Ravi alias Ganesh were held at his native Velishala village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Friday. The mortal remains of the senior Maoist leader, who was killed in an 'encounter' in Alluri Sitarama Raju district in AP on June 18, were brought to Velishala by his family members on Friday morning. People from various walks of life, including writers, artists and revolutionary singers, came in droves to participate in the funeral procession of the slain Maoist leader, who had been underground for more than three and a half decades. Members of the Amarula Bandhu Mithrula Sangham and various mass organisations, leaders of various political parties, among others, took part in the funeral procession. Bhupalpally MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao, revolutionary singer Vimalakka and others paid their last respects to the mortal remains of Gajerla Ravi. Touching scenes were witnessed in Velishala as Gajerla Ravi's family members wept inconsolably during the his funeral held at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Police handover bodies of three Maoists to their family members at Rampachodavaram in ASR district
The bodies of the three Maoists, who had been killed in an exchange of fire in the Maredumilli forest area, were handed over to their respective families late in the night on Thursday after conducting the post mortem examination at the Rampachodavaram Area Hospital in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district, said Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Sai Prasanth on Friday. The Maoists, who had been killed in the encounter on June 18, were identified as central committee member and secretary of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee Gajarla Ravi, alias Uday; Raavi Venkat Chaitanya, alias Aruna, of Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam district, and South Zonal Committee Member Anju of Konta block in Chhattisgarh, Mr. Sai Prasanth said. The exchange of fire had taken place along the Pamuleru stream, near Akooru village, in the Maredumilli forest cover of the district. 'The dead bodies have been handed over to the family members after completion of the legal procedure in the Rampachodavaram Area Hospital,' Mr. Sai Prasanth told The Hindu. Aruna was cremated in Pendurthi on Friday morning in the presence of a large number of people from the civil rights movement. Aruna had discontinued her studies to join the Maoist movement in the year 2000. She was initially motivated by her father Lakshman Rao's political ideology, as he was then an active member of the UCCRI-ML. Her younger brother, Gopal, alias Azad, had also been killed in an exchange of fire in 2016 in ASR district.
