If you think of Railbookers, it might be simple rail trips across Europe that immediately come to mind, but there is much more to the operator than meets the eye. A one-stop shop for travel agents, Railbookers' packages include hotels, sightseeing, transfers, flights, and of course, rail travel.
Now with a two-strong trade team to support your marketing and bookings – the world really is your rail-loving clients' oyster. To ensure you are maximising on everything the operator has to offer, we've rounded up five facts that you may not know. Plus, you can also enter to win a £50 voucher of your choice – with five up for grabs – when you enter our new competition with Railbookers!
1. You can package holidays worldwide
It's not just iconic rail journeys on offer, Railbookers sells independent tailormade holidays throughout the world.
The operator's new head of trade sales and development, Raj Mistry says: 'Our top selling destinations for 2025 include Switzerland and Italy. These are the most popular ones that we always have but then we've had Norway and Scandinavia – which is phenomenal in terms of what it's offering – Portugal and Canada too. As you may appreciate, we are seeing a number of clients booking a lot later, so we can do last-minute bookings as well as booking out as far as 2027.'
2. You can book more than rail travel
Railbookers offers much more than simple short journeys or experiences. It can package anything from a short stay or a multi-centre holiday to a coast to coast journey or a luxury trip of a lifetime.
Mistry asserts: 'Think of us as a tour operator offering hotels, flights, sightseeing, with transfers and rail being the main component of the holiday.'
What's more it can add rail from the UK travelling into continental Europe to ensure your customer's journey starts smoothly and provides an option for clients who don't want to fly.
Mistry adds: 'What really makes the holiday is the experience on the ground. The sightseeing, which can be very immersive, can be either part of a group or individual and private to the client.'
3. You can book high-end holidays
If you think of simple rail journeys in Europe, luxury travel may not immediately come to mind. However, alongside Railbookers' relationships with the national rail companies, it also features luxury rail operators, hotels and experiences.
Customers might want to combine the Swiss railways with the Bernina and Glacier Express for example, or VIA Rail in Canada with the Rocky Mountaineer. In India they can pair the Indian railways with The Maharajas' Express or, if they are traveling in Italy, you can book Trenitalia with the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
All these classic rail journeys can be packaged up with a great range of properties across the globe, with luxury options such as Fairmont, Intercontinental and Kimpton hotels.
4. You can get personal support from the UK trade team
There is plenty of support for agents in the UK. Railbookers has recently added two new business development roles, Mistry and key account manager, Levi Barrett. The pair are on hand to support agents and are offering bespoke training to all of their travel partners.
Mistry says: 'We're offering a lot of virtual training and the opportunity to meet at conferences as well. We are also seeing a number of our travel partners looking at doing virtual consumer events.'
5. You can access resources in an online portal
Railbookers' travel agent portal is a brilliant resource if you are keen to find out more. It has a wealth of material including the Travel Agent Reference Card – a simple guide that agents can download and use as a day-to-day reference for all the destinations that Railbookers covers.
There are also downloadable flyers and brochures for the likes of Switzerland, Italy, Australia, Canada, and customisable flyers if you want to feature specific itineraries too. Access to the portal is via the Railbookers' website at railbookers.co.uk/about-us/travel-agent-login

Italy's immigration and emigration both soaring, stats agency says

ROME, June 20 (Reuters) - The numbers of Italians leaving their country and of foreigners moving in have soared to the highest in a decade, official data showed on Friday, fuelling national concerns about brain drain, economic decline and immigration. Italy has a right-wing government elected in 2022 on a mandate to curb migrant arrivals, but also has a shrinking population and growing labour shortages, highlighting the need to attract foreign workers. Meanwhile the country's stagnant economy and low wages - salaries are below 1990 levels in inflation-adjusted terms - have been blamed for pushing many Italians to seek better fortunes abroad. Last year 382,071 foreigners moved to Italy, up from 378,372 in 2023 and the highest since 2014, statistics agency Istat said. In the same period, 155,732 Italians emigrated, up from 114,057 in 2023 and also the highest since 2014. The immigration figure beat the previous high for the last decade of 301,000 in 2017, and was well above that period's low of 191,766 from 2020 - the height of the COVID pandemic. The figure of almost 270,000 nationals emigrating in the two-year period from 2023 to 2024 was up around 40% compared to the previous two years. The two-year immigration figure for that period, of around 760,000, was up 31% from 2021-2022. The figures are derived from town registry offices, so are unlikely to reflect undocumented migration. Ukrainians made up the biggest national group among those who arrived in 2023-2024, Istat said, followed by Albanians, Bangladeshis, Moroccans, Romanians, Egyptians, Pakistanis, Argentines and Tunisians. As for the high number of emigrants, "it is more than plausible" that a significant number were "former immigrants" who moved abroad after acquiring Italian citizenship, Istat said. The agency also said Italy's poorer south was continuing to depopulate, noting that almost 1% of residents in Calabria, the region with the lowest per capita income, moved to central or northern areas during 2023-2024.

Telecom Italia in talks with banks to sell 1 bln euro state credit, say sources

MILAN, June 20 (Reuters) - Telecom Italia (TIM) ( opens new tab is in advanced talks with banks to sell a 1 billion euro ($1.2 billion) state credit the phone group expects to be able to cash in from the government after a prolonged legal dispute, two sources told Reuters. TIM and Rome have been locked in a legal battle over a license fee TIM was obligated to pay to the state in 1998, the year after the telecoms sector was deregulated. TIM scored a victory last year when a Rome appeals court ordered the Italian government to give TIM back the original licence fee, worth just over 500 million euros, a figure that has since doubled due to accrued interests. The government has appealed the decision in front of Italy's top court. Pending the top court's ruling, TIM is in talks with UniCredit ( opens new tab and Santander ( opens new tab to get financing against the expected 1 billion euro refund from the government, the people said. Such a form of financing, whereby a company raises cash from banks by selling them a claim, typically invoices, at a discount to the claim's nominal value, is called factoring. In a similar case to TIM's, the top court has ruled in favour of Vodafone (VOD.L), opens new tab. In any case, were the final court decision to be against TIM, the company would just return the banks the cash they have lent it plus any interest that has matured, the people said. That would be no different than repaying ordinary bank debt. TIM, UniCredit and Santander all declined to comment. Italy's top court last month delayed its final decision over the case, saying further checks were needed to establish whether TIM's initial claim was filed with the correct court. A hearing on the matter is expected next week. ($1 = 0.8632 euros)

Italy's Eni eyes new unit to manage oil refineries, unions say

MILAN, June 20 (Reuters) - Eni ( opens new tab intends to set up a new company focused on several assets including oil refineries and fuels storage facilities in Italy, two unions said after a meeting with the state-controlled energy group earlier this week. The new unit, which will likely be named Eni Industrial Evolution (EIE), could take onboard nearly 2,000 employees who work on the sites that will be included in it, the unions said. "EIE will take over the management of traditional refining, primary logistics and the conversion into bio-refineries of the Livorno and part of Sannazzaro plants," FEMCA CISL union said in a statement published on its website on Thursday. Eni declined to comment on the news from the unions, which was first reported by Italian daily Corriere della Sera. The state-controlled group has been splitting some of its operations into separate entities, or satellites, and has clinched deals with investors interested in these units. On the low-carbon front, Eni has created retail and renewable unit Plenitude, biofuel company Enilive and aims to set up a venture dedicated to carbon capture and storage by the end of this year.
