Madhya Pradesh To Hike Ladli Behna Payout, Opposition Flags Towering Debt

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has announced that the monthly financial assistance for women under the Ladli Behna scheme will be increased to Rs 1,500 from Diwali, which is in October. Currently, around 1.27 crore women beneficiaries receive Rs 1,250 per month. The move is being seen as a continuation of the BJP's flagship welfare initiative launched ahead of the 2023 state elections. Speaking to the media, Dr Yadav said, "The announcement in our Sankalp Patra is of Rs 3,000. We made it with full confidence and will fulfill it. The scheme began with Rs 1,000, then we increased it to Rs 1,250. From Diwali, it will be Rs 1,500." The hike will place an additional burden of Rs 310 crore on the state exchequer every month, pushing the annual cost of the scheme beyond Rs 22,000 crore. When the scheme was launched in 2023, 1.29 crore women were enrolled. The number rose slightly to 1.31 crore in October 2023 but has now come down to 1.27 crore. The government has admitted in the state Assembly that while new names are currently not being added, existing names are being removed based on age and other eligibility criteria. BJP MLA Bhagwan Das Sabnani defended the move, saying, "The Chief Minister is committed to empowering women. The Congress earlier mocked the scheme, but now they are afraid because the government is consistently fulfilling its promises." Congress leader Shailendra Patel criticised the financial viability of the scheme, stating, "The economic condition of Madhya Pradesh is deteriorating. No one knows how much more they will borrow. The state is practically being run on God's mercy." Rising Debt Poses Fiscal Challenges The state budget for 2025-26 stands at Rs 4.21 lakh crore. However, the government has already borrowed Rs 9,500 crore this financial year, taking the total outstanding debt to approximately Rs 4.31 lakh crore. This marks a 115 per cent increase in the state's debt over the last five years. In 2019, the total debt stood around Rs 2 lakh crore.

MP: CM Yadav attends state-level Gaushala conference, announces Animal Husbandry dept to be known as 'Gaupalan' dept too

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 20 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in a state level Gaushal conference held in Bhopal on Friday and transferred around Rs 90 crores for the operation of Gau-Shalas in the state. CM Yadav also announced that the Animal Husbandry Department would also be known as the 'Gaupalan' Department. He further noted that cow rearing has an important contribution in the development of the state and his government is committed to the prosperity of cattle farmers. 'Today, a state-level Gaushal conference was organised here in Bhopal and we distributed various prizes to cowshed operators across the state, along with funds for their operation--some 5 lakh, 3 lakh, or 2 lakh rupees. A total of around 90 crore rupees was transferred to all cowsheds with a single click. With the Acharya Vidyasagar Gau Samvardhan Scheme and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana, people should connect with Gaupalan and increase their income. We are working in the direction that farmers should connect with milk production along the farming, and increase income,' CM Yadav told reporters. The Chief Minister also emphasised that through the National Dairy Development Board, milk production in the state has been increased from 9 percent to 20 percent. Currently, Madhya Pradesh ranks third in milk production, with efforts underway to reach first place. 'Additionally, construction of gaushalas has started so that the stray cattle on roads, unclaimed cows and some with injury should be taken to the suitable gaushalas. The large municipal corporations such as Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Rewa are being facilitated with a Gaushala with a capacity of around 10,000 cows... We are making efforts to make Madhya Pradesh, capital of Milk production and number one state in the country,' the CM said. He also hoped that with the help of all possible management and in accordance with the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh should become the number one state in the production of milk as well as natural farming, organic farming and all types of vegetables, fruits, flowers and crops based on non-chemicals. 'We have also decided to change the name of the Animal Husbandry department. Along with 'Pashupalan,' it will also be known as the 'Gaupalan' department,' he added. (ANI)

MakeMyTrip raises $3.1 bn in APAC's biggest equity-bond deal since 2022

MakeMyTrip raises $3.1 billion via equity and convertible notes to reduce stake below 20 per cent, marking APAC's largest concurrent offering since 2022 MakeMyTrip has raised $3.1 billion through equity and bond offerings, marking the Asia-Pacific region's largest concurrent offering of equity follow-on and convertible notes since 2022, Kamal Yadav, head of investment banking at Morgan Stanley, said in a LinkedIn post on Friday. 'On June 17, 2025, after the close, MakeMyTrip priced a $3.1 billion concurrent registered primary equity follow-on and 144A convertible bond (post-shoe). The primary equity follow-on offering of 18,400,000 ordinary equity shares was priced at $90 per share. The five-year convertible senior notes offering, at 0 per cent coupon and 35.0 per cent conversion premium, together represent APAC's largest concurrent offering of equity follow-on and convertible notes since 2022,' Yadav wrote. The last major fundraise by an Indian internet company was Paytm's $2.5 billion initial public offering in 2021. Proceeds from the fundraise will be used to buy back stake held by Group Ltd, reducing the Chinese company's holding to under 20 per cent from the current 45.34 per cent. will continue to remain the largest minority shareholder in the company. The move comes amid allegations by founder Nishant Pitti that five out of 10 directors on the company's board had ties with China—claims that the Nasdaq-listed company dismissed as 'malicious and motivated'. MakeMyTrip did not respond to queries from Business Standard as of Friday evening. The company is yet to issue an official statement on the closure of the deal. MakeMyTrip had initially planned to offer 14 million new shares to raise $1.4 billion and zero-coupon convertible bonds worth $1.25 billion. It later increased the new share offering to 18.4 million shares, priced at $90—slightly lower than the $91.49 closing price on June 17.
