This Amazon division may be planning major leadership changes
Amazon
's grocery division, which is now led by
Jason Buechel
, is reportedly planning major
leadership changes
, including a reorganisation of Whole Foods. This marks the first significant restructuring under Buechel, who recently began overseeing Amazon's entire
grocery business
. According to an internal memo obtained by Business Insider (BI), Buechel has assembled a new leadership team. This team combines experienced executives from both
Whole Foods
and Amazon. Buechel, who became Whole Foods' CEO in 2022 and was promoted to head Amazon's full grocery operations in January, now aims for a deeper integration of Whole Foods with the e-commerce giant's platform.
The memo suggests that these changes are necessary to accelerate the growth of Amazon's grocery business. This move comes nearly eight years after Amazon acquired Whole Foods for $13.7 billion.
What Amazon grocery chief Jason Buechel said in the memo
'Too frequently, we are duplicating efforts and missing easy opportunities for efficiency. We have a big opportunity to work smarter across teams and simplify how we approach shared needs,'
Buechel wrote in the memo seen by BI.

Trouble between AI's power couple: What's brewing between Microsoft and OpenAI?
The biggest partnership in the artificial intelligence (AI) world, between Microsoft and OpenAI , is showing signs of cracks. Microsoft invested $1 billion in the ChatGPT maker in 2019, ahead of the generative AI boom . The companies then rode the wave to the top, with the software maker injecting billions more in the company in the following years. But then disagreements arose over controlling AI technology and computing resources, intellectual property rights, as well as OpenAI's organisational transition plans and competitive tensions. These issues have made the once-close partnership shaky, and may fundamentally change it. What's happened? Live Events OpenAI needs Microsoft's approval to complete its transition into a public-benefit corporation. But sources told Reuters the companies have not been able to agree on details even after months of negotiations. Discover the stories of your interest Blockchain 5 Stories Cyber-safety 7 Stories Fintech 9 Stories E-comm 9 Stories ML 8 Stories Edtech 6 Stories Tensions have risen between the two sides after reports emerged that OpenAI is considering a "nuclear option", accusing Microsoft of anticompetitive behaviour. The companies are discussing revising the terms of Microsoft's investment, including the future equity stake it will hold in OpenAI, the report said, adding that the ChatGPT owner wants to modify existing clauses that give Microsoft exclusive rights to host OpenAI models in its cloud. Reuters reported that Microsoft was even ready to walk away from its high-stakes negotiations with OpenAI over the future of its alliance. Windsurf issue The key issue in the dispute is now Microsoft's access to OpenAI's intellectual property. OpenAI even wanted to exclude Microsoft's access to AI coding startup Windsurf, which it had acquired, due to competing products. OpenAI acquired Windsurf, an AI-assisted coding tool formerly known as Codeium, for about $3 billion, marking the company's largest acquisition to date. Microsoft-owned Github offers a competing AI tool for programmers. Investors have also poured money into a new crop of startups offering similar tools, including Anysphere, the startup behind Cursor. Analysts have said that the partnership between the legacy giant and the AI startup was always unstable, with Microsoft testing alternatives and preparing for a way forward without OpenAI.

Metropolis, Dr Lal PathLabs shares dip up to 3% as Amazon enters diagnostic market
Diagnostic stocks including Metropolis Healthcare, Dr Lal PathLabs, Krsnaa Diagnostics, and Thyrocare Technologies came under pressure during Monday's trade (June 23), falling up to 3% intraday as investor sentiment turned cautious after Amazon launched home diagnostic services, intensifying competition in India's $15 billion diagnostics market. On Sunday, Amazon India announced the launch of Amazon Diagnostics — an at-home service that allows customers to book lab tests, schedule and track appointments, and access digital reports via the Amazon app — marking an expansion of its medical offerings beyond online pharmacy and teleconsultations. The service, being offered in collaboration with Orange Health Labs, will be available in Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, across over 450 PIN codes, the company said in a statement. Last week, the company announced that it would invest over $233 million in 2025 to enhance its India operations. While the healthcare foray is in line with Amazon's global strategy, India is the only country that has diagnostic services currently. Amazon is not the only digital player entering diagnostics. Online pharmacies like Tata 1mg, Apollo 24/7, Pharmeasy, and Netmeds have all expanded their offerings beyond medicines to include diagnostics. Industry experts believe that the diagnostics space, which has largely been unorganized and fragmented in India so far, holds significant potential due to changing consumer preferences as well as higher profit margins. 'There are three primary revenue streams in the B2C health tech space—teleconsultation, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical distribution. Of these, diagnostics remains the most significant profit pool,' Tarun Sharma, senior fund manager and healthcare and consumer strategy head at 360 ONE Asset, said. 'So, this space continues to attract competition, which means constant pricing risk. At the same time, consumers are becoming increasingly discerning about the accuracy of reports and the overall quality of their experience,' he added.
