MACC to quiz Ismail Sabri's former son-in-law in Indonesia

PUTRAJAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will question Jovian Mandagie, the former son-in-law of ex-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in Indonesia as part of its ongoing investigation into Ismail's asset declaration.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said Jovian's statement was needed to verify claims made by Ismail, who had declared his assets in February.
'We need to get his (Jovian's) cooperation. There are assets said to be linked to him, as stated by Ismail Sabri. We need confirmation,' Azam told a press conference at the MACC headquarters here today.
'He is in Indonesia, and he is an Indonesian. So we will have to meet him there. We are hoping to make the trip in a week or two to speed up matters.'
Jovian was previously married to Ismail's daughter, Nina Sabrina, before their divorce in 2023.
Azam said MACC has so far recorded statements from 57 individuals as part of the investigation.
He also confirmed that MACC has completed its analysis of Ismail's assets and will submit its findings to the Attorney-General's Chambers by the end of June.
'We are factoring in that he (Ismail) has been involved in the private sector and has held company shares. These are being considered to ensure a fair assessment of his income,' he said.
Asked whether Ismail will be called in for further questioning, Azam said: 'It depends on our findings. He may or may not be called.'
Ismail resumed giving his statement to MACC on April 24 as part of its second phase of questioning on his asset declaration. The most recent session was on May 7.
MACC is investigating the discovery of about RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars worth millions of ringgit, which were seized in raids on the residences of four men, and three other premises believed to be 'safe houses'.
A money changer was also arrested as part of the probe into Ismail.

Saifuddin and former MP Nurul Izzah could lead negotiations for seats with other parties in the ruling coalition, the communications minister suggested, saying they have the experience and diplomatic skills. 'With their appointments we can now prepare for strategies and negotiations with better success and ease. I welcome the decision,' he said after speaking at a government event here. 'Both the leaders have shouldered the responsibility before and these two characters are compatible, each with their own strengths. I see this as a net positive for PKR, Pakatan Harapan and the unity government.' Nurul Izzah and Saifudin's appointments were part of several decisions made by PKR's political bureau and central leadership council on Saturday. Khaled: Umno to review Sembrong motion seeking to lift Hishammuddin's suspension, reinstate him in party leadership
BATU PAHAT, June 22 – Umno will consider a motion from its Sembrong division appealing for the suspension of its MP, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, to be lifted and for his reinstatement into the party's leadership. Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was quoted saying the motion is among 191 submitted by divisions nationwide and will be reviewed by party headquarters in accordance with the party's constitution. 'Now that there's a motion, we will deliberate. Whether or not the individual involved has submitted an appeal is not the main issue,' Khaled was reported saying by Utusan Malaysia. 'We will send it to headquarters for review and consideration.' Yesterday, Johor Umno chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi assured members that he would back the motion. Sembrong Umno reportedly cited Hishammuddin's decades-long commitment to the constituency and continued loyalty to Umno as grounds for the appeal. Division chief Datuk Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid said this was the second year in a row the division had submitted such a motion. In January 2023, Umno Supeme Council decided to internally purge itself of critics — resulting in 44 party members being exiled and four members being given a suspension. Sembrong MP Hishammuddin was suspended for six years, reportedly for being the main driver behind the Barisan Nasional MPs signing statutory declarations backing Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister. Among the 44 sacked were former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Tan Sri Noh Omar, while former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan was also given a six-year suspension.
