KUALA LUMPUR – The illegal activities of a university student came to light after he was arrested during a recent operation codenamed Op Pedo, which led to the discovery of 5,000 files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and adult content on his devices.
Even more disturbing, the 20-year-old suspect was found to have produced some of the pornographic material himself, involving two local children as victims.
The man was arrested on April 29 in Pasir Gudang, Johor by a team from the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children (Micac) unit, the Sexual Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and the Johor Contingent Police, in collaboration with Google.

Some of the materials were also believed to have been produced by the suspect himself, involving two local children.
She said further investigations revealed that the suspect had taken advantage of two girls, aged four and nine, who were also his cousins.
"The suspect is believed to have recorded the acts using a mobile phone at several different locations — in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan.
"Police have seized a mobile phone and a laptop for further action under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 292 of the Penal Code," she told Sinar.
Kamsiah said three separate investigation papers had been opened in the relevant states.
"For the offence of possessing CSAM and adult content, the suspect was charged in Johor on May 22, pleaded guilty and paid a fine of RM5,000.
"For the offence involving recordings with the children at the suspect's family home in Sungai Buloh between 2023 and 2025, the suspect was charged today (Thursday) in Klang," she added.
She said investigations into another incident involving the suspect bathing one of the victims in a bathroom at an oil palm plantation in Maran, Pahang were still under review by the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
"As for the incidents in Kelantan, which occurred last year and this year at the suspect's grandmother's house, investigations are also still being reviewed by the Attorney General's Chambers," she said.

JOHOR BARU: – A private sector retiree lost RM535,766 after allegedly falling victim to an online investment scam promoted via a Facebook advertisement. Seri Alam police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police received a report from a 57-year-old local man on Tuesday, who claimed losses exceeding RM500,000. He said the victim had come across a share investment advertisement on Facebook on March 13 that promised lucrative returns within a short time, and clicked on the provided link out of interest. "Subsequently, the victim made 26 payment transactions into five different bank accounts between March 13 and June 5, totalling RM535,766. The victim was also asked to make additional payments to withdraw the so-called 'investment profits', but those requests were never fulfilled," he said in a statement yesterday. Mohd Sohaimi said the victim only realised he had been duped after repeated attempts to recover the investment funds proved futile. "Preliminary checks via the CCID's 'Semak Mule' platform found that all five accounts involved had a total of 22 police reports linked to investment scams," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and police are also looking into the possible involvement of mule account holders.

12-year-old disabled girl rescued after car theft in Penang
BUTTERWORTH: A 12-year-old disabled girl was rescued unharmed in Butterworth after the vehicle she was left in was stolen from her father's workshop in Penaga late yesterday afternoon. Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred at about 5.30pm, when the girl's mother briefly exited the car to deliver engine oil to her husband's workshop. He said the vehicle's engine had been left running with the child inside. "Upon returning, the mother was shocked to find the car and her daughter gone. "A search was immediately launched by the family with help from a friend. "Unable to locate the vehicle, the mother used the Life360 app to track her mobile phone, which was with the girl, and traced the location to Bagan Lalang, Butterworth. "Police from the district's Criminal Investigation Department, assisted by officers from the Butterworth police station, responded swiftly and successfully apprehended a male suspect in his 60s," he said in a statement at midnight today. Anuar said, fortunately, the girl was found safe and uninjured. "She was immediately brought to Kepala Batas Hospital for a thorough medical examination," he said. Anuar said preliminary checks revealed the suspect had a record of seven criminal offences and eleven drug-related offences. The case is being investigated under Section 379A (theft of a motor vehicle) and Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Penal Code. Authorities are continuing their investigation to complete the case file.
