Jobs platform Apna's interview prep tool records 760K AI interviews

Job seekers are increasingly turning to AI-powered tools for interview preparation, using virtual coaches and real-time feedback to sharpen their skills. Online jobs platform Apna, which launched AI Job Prep — an AI interview preparation tool — completed over 7.6 lakh interviews and clocked more than 39 lakh minutes of interviews within just three weeks of launch. The tool was launched on 18 May.
"The tool offers realistic interview simulations, instant performance feedback, and personalised improvement tips to help candidates build interview confidence," the company said. It currently offers interviews for over 25,000 job roles across 3,000 top companies, with questions tailored to specific companies and job profiles. The tool also personalises interviews based on the person's résumé.
Among the top roles for which individuals prepared were software development, product management, data analyst, accounting, digital marketing, and sales. While tech roles accounted for 42 per cent of total interviews, 58 per cent came from non-tech sectors such as retail and logistics, among others.
In terms of geography, the adoption of the tool was highest in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, which accounted for 44 per cent of total interviews.
As for the age groups, Gen Z (18–24 years) emerged as the most active user group, contributing 58 per cent of total interviews, while millennials (25–30 years) followed at 27 per cent. Male users accounted for 76 per cent of total participation, while female engagement stood at 24 per cent.
Earlier, an Interview Readiness Index 2025 by the company revealed that only 32 per cent of job seekers in the country feel prepared for interviews. The report also highlighted the growing role of digital tools in boosting interview readiness, with users of digital or AI-powered platforms reporting higher confidence levels at 38 per cent.

'Mujhe kaam pasand nahi aaya': Employee quits on Day 1, HR's angry post sparks debate

A LinkedIn post by an HR executive narrated a baffling incident where a newly hired employee quit the job after just one day by saying that she did not like the work she was given. 'Mujhe yeh kaam pasand nahi aaya (I didn't like the job)," she said. An Indian employee quit on Day 1 of his new job over a toxic boss The HR professional expressed her disbelief at the abrupt exit, revealing that the candidate left without a phone call or any explanation. While the sales role was challenging, she explained that this was clearly communicated to the candidate before the offer was made. 'No job becomes perfect in a day. No company can prove everything in 24 hours. And no role will ever feel 'comfortable' until you give it your time, energy, and mindset," she said. The HR executive also advised other job candidates to ask questions regarding their job title during the interview to avoid similar situations. "To all candidates—please understand this: Ask your doubts clearly during the interview. If you're unsure, wait—don't rush to say yes. Once committed, try to give your role a fair chance before deciding it's "not for you." And most importantly, communicate. Silence never shows professionalism. Growth doesn't come from perfect jobs—it comes from patience, clarity, and learning from discomfort," she said. Post divides internet The post quickly gained traction on LinkedIn and divided social media users. While some were stunned by the candidate's blunt refusal to continue, others sided with her and wondered what drove her to call it quits so soon. One user suggested, "Rather than posting this, you should find out what she did not like. " Another wrote, "HR ghosts the candidates mid-interview process, doesn't respect their time, doesn't value their capabilities, and for them, it's normal, but when the same thing is done by the candidate, then they are wrong." A third user blamed "Gen Z" candidates' attitudes. "It's the Gen Z effect; we all faced the same challenge. Even after 1 month of training induction, therole explanation. Suddenly, their mood swings have arisen and leave the job 0-30 days from the production floor," they wrote.

Warner Bros Discovery restructuring may back India OTT plans—but faces challenges

Warner Bros Discovery's decision to split its streaming and studio business from its traditional TV networks may give a fresh push to its digital plans in India—but growing in the country's crowded and price-sensitive OTT market won't be easy. Under the restructuring, Global Networks will house entertainment, sports and news television brands such as CNN and Discovery, along with digital products including the discovery+ streaming platform. The newly formed Streaming & Studios entity will comprise Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group and DC Studios, which will continue releasing their films theatrically in India. David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, said in a global release, 'By operating as two distinct and optimised companies, we are empowering these brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today's evolving media landscape." Also read: Why Warner boss Zaslav is having to split up the media empire he built 'This separation will invigorate each company by enabling them to leverage their strengths and specific financial profiles. This will also allow each company to pursue important investment opportunities and drive shareholder value," added CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels. India playbook challenges The separation could allow Warner Bros Discovery to invest more aggressively in OTT in India, especially in subscription-based models. However, the challenges are plenty. Currently, the company only runs the discovery+ streaming service in India, while syndicating most of its intellectual property (IP) to JioHotstar. Experts believe that the platform, now free from having to serve traditional TV audiences, could lean into bold, edgy content aimed at younger demographics. 'The digital business isn't big in India, and it will have to show revenue now," said Girish Dwibhashyam, streaming industry expert and former vice-president and chief operating officer of DocuBay, a documentary streaming service. 'The split could rejuvenate their investments in OTT but it would also bring down their negotiating power with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and aggregators for distribution partnerships since it would no longer come under the same umbrella as broadcast," he added. While Warner Bros Discovery has dabbled in infotainment, science, and mythology in India, Dwibhashyam sees room for more daring content experiments. Given that they no longer have the baggage of producing the same programming for both TV and OTT, the company could explore edgier themes, he said. Also read: Online games and self-publishing platforms: movie producers tap new avenues for fresh plotlines Vinay V. Singh, managing director (USA), Primus Partners, added that the company could now double down on high-quality originals and global formats. 'These are key to capturing Indian millennials and Gen Z in a fiercely competitive OTT landscape," he said. Singh also said HBO-branded content, currently available via video-on-demand through partnerships like JioHotstar, may gain more muscle with renewed global backing. Despite the digital optimism, linear television remains dominant in India, especially in smaller towns and non-English-speaking markets. However, if other global media giants follow Warner Bros Discovery's decoupling strategy, standalone TV units may need to raise ad or subscription rates to remain viable. This could further drive viewers toward cheaper OTT platforms, including those that rely on advertising-based video-on-demand (AVoD). Industry experts anticipate that the decoupling trend could push streaming companies to innovate their pricing models. Expect bundles that include local originals, micropayments, ad insertions, and dynamic pricing to boost reach while protecting average revenue per user (ARPU). Subscription blues Yet, streaming monetization remains a hurdle in India. According to a report by Ormax Media, India's video streaming audience stood at 547.3 million, but active paid subscriptions stagnated at 99.6 million. Notably, the SVoD (subscription video-on-demand) audience declined by 2% in 2024, even as the AVoD base grew by 21%. 'Foreign companies haven't really seen India as a hot market. Plus, there isn't real value in SVoD yet," said Sunil Lulla, founder, The Linus Adventures. Warner Bros Discovery has also refrained from fully adopting the ad-supported model in India. Last year, Sai Abishek, head of factual and lifestyle cluster, South Asia, had said the platform would continue to focus primarily on a subscription-driven model. What's next While Warner Bros Discovery declined to comment on Mint's queries for this story, industry watchers say the company's strategic split could be a reset moment for its India plans. However, competing in a saturated market—dominated by players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and SonyLIV—will demand more than just capital. It will require smart partnerships, platform innovation, and the courage to bet big on differentiated content. Also read: Few winners, many misses in Bollywood's lopsided H1 recovery story

Snap Inc acquires social calendar app Saturn to deepen Gen Z engagement

Snap Inc has acquired Saturn , a social calendar app used by high school students across the US, the company confirmed on Friday. While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the app will continue to operate independently for now. Founded in 2018 by Dylan Diamond and Max Baron, Saturn helps students manage rotation calendars, block schedules, lunch waves, and other academic timetables — a niche that has made it widely adopted among teenagers. According to the company, over 80% of UShigh schools use Saturn, positioning it as a highly engaged platform for Gen Z users. As part of the acquisition, Saturn's full team of around 30 employees will join Snap Inc, according to tech news publications TechCrunch. The move is expected to help Snap incorporate social planning and time-management features more seamlessly into Snapchat, reinforcing its efforts to stay relevant with younger audiences. Saturn had previously raised $44 million in funding from investors including General Catalyst , Insight Partners, Coatue, Bezos Expeditions, and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. The app's origin traces back to when cofounder Dylan Diamond, then a high school student, built an early version to help classmates manage their schedules — a tool that saw 90% adoption on his campus, ultimately laying the foundation for Saturn. Snap has long positioned itself as a 'camera company' with a social core, and this acquisition aligns with its broader strategy of building personalised, utility-driven tools for its Gen Z user base. The integration of Saturn's features could offer Snap new avenues to boost daily engagement and extend time spent on the platform — an area of increasing focus amid competition from TikTok and BeReal.
