Perak launches Digital Economy Action Plan 2030

The Sun04-06-2025

IPOH: The Perak state government today launched two important documents - the Perak Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and the Perak Smart City Blueprint 2040.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said both documents were formulated based on the Perak Sejahtera 2030 vision, aimed at making the state more efficient, sustainable and prosperous through digital empowerment and data-driven urban planning.
He said the Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 focuses on four main pillars: access to quality digital infrastructure, efficient digital public administration, a dynamic digital-driven business ecosystem, and an empowered digital society.
'A total of 21 programmes have been identified, with five catalytic projects prioritised. These include expanding digital coverage through the JENDELA initiative, developing Point-of-Presence (POP) infrastructure, and using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to improve connectivity in rural areas,' he said at the launch held at Hotel Casuarina here today.
Other key initiatives include strengthening cashless payment systems for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and establishing centres of excellence such as the Smart Perak Research and Innovation Centre (SPRIN) and AI Academy.
As for the Smart City Blueprint 2040, Saarani said it outlines seven core components, 22 policies, 52 strategies, and 132 phased initiatives to be implemented up to 2040, aimed at driving smart city development across the state.
'The blueprint aims to build cities that are more inclusive, responsive and sustainable, centred around the People-Centric Smart City concept which focuses on public needs and wellbeing,' he said.
He also thanked the four local authorities — Ipoh City Council (MBI), Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI), Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) and Kampar District Council (MDKpr) — for being early adopters of the smart city agenda.
To ensure effective and impactful implementation of both plans, the state has established the Perak Digital Economy Council (MEDi) and the Perak Smart City Steering Committee.
'MEDi comprises four strategic pillars - infrastructure, economy, public digitalisation, and society, with each led by the respective state executive councillor.
'The Smart City Steering Committee will follow a similar structure, as both initiatives are interconnected,' he added.

IPOH: The Perak government is allocating RM20 million annually for the operation of five Sekolah Menengah Tahfiz Darul Ridzuan (SMTDR), covering teacher salaries, student meals, training programmes and facility maintenance. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the schools are located in Pulau Pangkor, Semanggol, Lenggong, Sungai Lesung and Ipoh. He added that nearly RM112 million has been earmarked in the 2025 state budget for the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), supporting Islamic institutions, religious schools, and infrastructure upgrades. An additional RM15 million is allocated for mosque and surau construction and repairs, while RM5 million is set aside to strengthen Islamic education. Perak MB: No tremors detected during boom

IPOH: There was no indication of an earthquake or tremor when a loud boom was heard here a few days ago, says Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. He added that no seismic activity was detected in the state. Saarani called for the matter to be studied by relevant technical departments or geological experts, as current monitoring systems have not confirmed any earthquakes or ground tremors in Malaysia. 'We have yet to know what exactly is happening, but I hope the public does not panic. 'So far, there has been no detection of any earthquake or tremor,' he said. He acknowledged that strange vibrations were felt in Ipoh and surrounding areas, drawing comparisons to a similar unexplained incident in 2024. 'Last year, people in Taiping, Kuala Kangsar and even Ipoh experienced what they described as an explosion-like tremor. 'The phenomenon, which has yet to be scientifically explained, was also reportedly felt in Selangor earlier this year,' he said after closing the National Training Week 2025 yesterday. The loud bang, which occurred at around 10.30am on June 18, sparked concern among residents in Chemor, Chepor and Tanah Hitam. On a separate matter, Saarani said the state government is proposing a major upgrade of the East-West Highway under the 13th Malaysia Plan. He said he forwarded this proposal to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during an event in Lumut last Sunday. 'I took the opportunity to raise this matter and conveyed our concerns about the highway. 'We understand the Prime Minister mentioned that the cost for the upgrade would be very high. But at least the state government has registered our views,' he said. Saarani added that discussions with the Public Works Department (JKR) on work to upgrade the highway is underway. 'Simply patching the road is no longer sufficient for the 40-year-old highway. 'The Federal Government, through JKR, should reassess the highway's alignment and consider a full reconstruction, not just resurfacing. 'This is because the highway structure is outdated. Also, the underground layer was exposed in some of the damaged areas of the highway. 'Mere road patching jobs will no longer suffice,' he said.

No earthquake, but cause of Ipoh 'explosions' must be probed, says MB

IPOH: The state government is calling on the public to remain calm following reports of mysterious explosions and tremors felt in several parts of the city here on Wednesday. Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad acknowledged the growing public concern over the incident, which had been occurring with unusual frequency in recent months. "We recall a similar mysterious explosion that occurred last year. People in Taiping also heard it as though it happened there. In Kuala Kangsar, residents felt it too and in Ipoh, people experienced the same. "This is a mysterious event. I believe it should be thoroughly studied by the relevant departments," he said. Saarani was speaking to reporters after closing the National Training Week (NTW) 2025 at the Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC) today. He also noted that similar incidents had been reported outside the state. "A similar case was reported in Selangor earlier this year. Perhaps geologists can investigate further so we can understand what's actually happening. "I urge the public not to panic. So far, there have been no earthquakes or related tremors recorded in the country, and there are also no signs of damage in Perak," he added. On Wednesday, it was reported that people heard a booming sound and at the same time, felt tremors in various areas around the state capital. According to social media posts and comments, users claimed to have felt the tremors in Chemor, Chepor and Tanah Hitam around 10.30am. On Oct 21 last year, a loud explosion and strong tremor was also reported in several parts of the city, including Tasek, Perak Stadium, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, Chemor and Sungai Siput at around 11.06am.
