R60k reward for third suspect in murder of IFP MP
Gauteng police have issued a reward of R60 000 to anyone with information that will lead to the arrest of an alleged suspect in the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) deputy chief whip Khethamabala Sithole.
Sithole was brutally gunned down at Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong last month during a ward meeting.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Gauteng lieutenant colonel Mavela Masondi said they're offering the reward to anyone who come forward with information that can lead to the arrest and successful conviction of Zamani Ngila Ximba is wanted for the murder of IFP deputy chief whip, Khethamabala Sithole, and attempted murder of two other people at Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong on the 31 May 2025.
Masondo said the suspect is tall, dark in complexion and deemed armed and very dangerous.
'Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect is urged to call Major General Mbuso Khumalo at 082 556 8642 or Captain Abe Montoedi at 082 461 4794 Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or by using MySAPS App. All received information will be treated as confidential.'
Meanwhile, the two suspects who were arrested two days after the murder of the IFP MP have abandoned their bail applications.
Khethakuthula Sithole and Nontando Ximba appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Thursday morning, 12 June, for their bail application.
The two are expected to return to court on 29 July.

Bogus tax practitioner gets 3 years behind bars for defrauding SARS out of R60k
JOHANNESBURG - A bogus tax practitioner linked to alleged underworld boss Nafiz Modack will spend three years behind bars for defrauding the South African Revenue Service (SARS) out of R60,000. Faried van der Schyff, who is also a co-accused in Modack's organised crime trial, was sentenced in the Cape Town Regional Court on Friday. It's understood that the 59-year-old posed as a registered tax consultant and illegally submitted documents to SARS, deceiving clients and pocketing the money. He was convicted on five charges, including income tax fraud, violations of the Tax Administration Act, and contravention of the Correctional Services Act. Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said, 'It was reported that van der Schyff committed fraud from 2016 to 2019 by operating illegally as a tax practitioner, without being registered with the South African Revenue Service.' Van der Schyff remains a co-accused in the Western Cape High Court trial involving Modack and 14 others, a case with nearly 3,000 charges, including murder, extortion and racketeering.

Mozambican kidnapping kingpin tracked to Fourways, killed in shoot-out
Fourways is trending on social media after a dramatic police anti-kidnapping operation unfolded in the suburb this week, resulting in the fatal shooting of a wanted Mozambican fugitive and the arrest of two suspects. The South African Police Service (SAPS) said in a media statement that an Anti-Kidnapping Task Team was following leads in the case of a kidnapped Pakistani businessman from Pretoria West, who remains in captivity. The high-level operation was launched at a residential complex in Carlswald, Midrand, where officers seized a Mercedes-Benz, a silver Mitsubishi Pajero, and arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapping. The team then moved to Fourways, where a shoot-out erupted as officers approached. One suspect was fatally wounded. He was later identified as 40-year-old Mauro Mucambe Junior, a kidnapping kingpin wanted in Mozambique and linked to multiple abductions. 'The SAPS has full faith and confidence in the work of the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team to rescue the kidnapped businessman. Since January 2024 to date, the team has arrested more than 170 criminals involved in kidnappings for ransom. More than R1.2 million has been recovered,' said Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, police spokesperson. The police confirmed their confidence in the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team, which has made major strides in tackling ransom kidnappings this year.
