Jordan's exports to GAFTA countries rose by 12.2% by end of February
Ammon News - National exports to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) countries grew by 12.2% by the end of February 2025, reaching JD515 million, compared to JD459 million for the same period last year.
In the same context, the Kingdom's imports from the GAFTA nations increased by 4.2% for the same period, recording JD863 million, compared to JD828 million last year.
Foreign trade data from Department of Statistics (DoS), monitored by "Petra," showed a decline in the Kingdom's trade deficit with the GAFTA countries for the same period, reaching JD348 million, compared to JD369 million against last year.
According to statistical figures, the volume of Jordan-GAFTA trade for the same period stood at JD1.378 billion, compared to the same period last year, estimated at JD1.287 billion.
Saudi Arabia accounted for the "largest share" of national exports to these countries by the end of February of this year, amounting to approximately JD141 million, marking an increase of 6.8%, while Iraq followed with JD136 million, constituting an increase of 15.3%.
National exports also witnessed "significant" growth with Syria, reaching JD35 million at an increase of 483.3%.
Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia topped exporters to Jordan, as the Kingdom's imports from Saudi Arabia amounted to JD519 million, which brings Jordan's trade deficit with the Arab Gulf country to approximately JD378 million at the end of February of 2025.
Jordanian exports to GAFTA countries are mainly fertilizers, medicines, agricultural fresh and frozen products, skin care products, food preparations, furniture, fabrics, garments among others.

Committee approves JD719,000 in rural electricity projects for 186 sites
Ammon News - The Higher Steering Committee for the Rural Fils, chaired by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, on Sunday approved a list of 186 homes and sites to be connected to the electrical grid through conventional networks during May, at an estimated cost of JD719,000. Kharabsheh said the committee had endorsed several projects and locations for grid connection under the Rural Fils framework, including residential communities and economic activities, following amendments to the guidelines governing electricity connections financed by the Rural Fils. Hisham Momani, Director of the Electricity and Rural Electrification Directorate at the Ministry, detailed the approved allocations. They include JD179,000 for residential clusters of five homes located outside planning boundaries, and JD114,000 for clusters of at least three homes in similar areas. Additionally, JD52,000 was approved for individual homes outside planning zones benefiting from existing infrastructure. A portion of the funding, amounting to JD10,000, was allocated to support homes of low-income families situated within planning boundaries and electricity company concession areas. This reflects the Ministry's commitment to social support and equitable access to energy. Productive projects in poverty pockets outside planning areas such as poultry, cattle, sheep, and fish farms received JD73,000 in funding. These efforts align with national goals to support farmers, bolster livestock production, and enhance food security and self-reliance. The approved list also includes JD40,000 to illuminate roads leading to cemeteries, facilitating nighttime burials. A further JD153,000 was allocated to support productive, industrial, and investment ventures in underserved areas, contingent on the creation of local employment opportunities. Momani added that JD59,000 was designated to electrify farms containing artesian wells outside planning boundaries, with the aim of supporting agricultural sustainability. Hubert resident Sylvia Wells told North Carolina Education Lottery officials she voiced her prediction to her husband just before they bought a pair of scratch-off tickets from the Handy Mart on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville.
