Friday night will be historical for the Auburn Tigers baseball program, as it will host its first-ever NCAA Super Regional at Plainsman Park.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are next on the docket, a team enters the series on an impressive 21-game winning streak which includes two wins over ECU and a victory over Fairfield in last weekend's Conway Regional. This year's super regional between Auburn and Coastal Carolina will feature strong pitching and even tougher outs at the plate. The Tigers boast six players with .300 batting averages or greater while Coastal has five. Each team has two hitters with 50 or more RBI while Auburn holds the edge in batters with 10-plus home runs, 3-2.
Pitching wise, Sam Dutton will toe the rubber for Auburn in game one while Cameron Flukey gets the nod for the Chants. Both pitchers have ERA's lower than 3.90 and have struck out over 90 batters, which will challenge the bats of both teams.

Best bet, prediction
Auburn will look to set the tone by chasing Coastal Carolina starter Cameron Flukey early, but it will not be easy. Auburn will need to receive similar production from Ike Irish, Chris Rembert, Bub Terrell, Eric Snow, and Cooper McMurray as it did in the Auburn Regional last weekend to achieve that goal. Auburn gets the edge here because with those bats, and a strong relief effort by Carson Myers following Sam Dutton's outing, the Tigers should win a tight one in front of a record crowd.

Auburn remains in the mix to land the four-star lineman from Illinois ahead of his commitment date. Four-star offensive tackle Claude Mpouma included the Auburn Tigers in his top five schools this week, and has set a commitment date. Where does Auburn stand in the mix? The offensive lineman from Chicago, Illinois, announced on social media that he will announce his pledge on Sunday, June 29, and that Auburn is among the top programs that remain in contention to land him. The Tigers join Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, and Nebraska in the race for Mpouma's signature. A successful visit to the Plains earlier this month is a key reason why Auburn remains high on Mpouma's radar. Men's College World Series: LSU won't beat Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge record, but still dominates ahead of finals vs. Coastal Carolina
The Men's College World Series finals starts on Saturday, but LSU is already on its way to a crucial win. The school is once again dominating the competition in the Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge. With only the finals left to play, LSU holds a 23,000-shot lead over finalist Coastal Carolina. As of Friday night, LSU fans have consumed an incredible 30,577 Jell-O shots during the College World Series. That's nearly 22,000 more than the second-place Arkansas fan base has downed in Omaha. Chanticleers fans may be able to finish as the runner-up, but they have some work to do, currently in fourth place with 7,509 shots. While that number should increase during the finals, Rocco's Pizza and Cantina — which hosts the competition each year — didn't expect to see a ton of movement on its board Thursday or Friday with no games scheduled. Advertisement LSU and Coastal Carolina will square off in a best-of-three series starting Saturday. Game 2 of the series will be held Sunday. If a Game 3 is necessary, it will be played Monday. College World Series notebook: Heatwave engulfs Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. — OmaHot? It could be shades of 2009 when the College World Series championship round between LSU and Coastal Carolina begins tonight. Which means it might be best to stay in the shade. A heat wave started rolling into Omaha Friday, with temperatures possibly touching 100 degrees over the weekend. That's reminiscent of LSU's 2009 national championship series against Texas, when the unseasonable weather here was hotter those days than in Louisiana. 'I didn't hear you say anything about lightning, huh?' LSU head coach Jay Johnson asked at his Friday news conference, referring to LSU's Monday game with UCLA which interrupted by storms and had to be finished Tuesday. 'I'm good with everything else.' They should be good at least until Monday's if-neces- sary game. And LSU is used to the heat. 'Super regional against West Virginia (was) no question the hottest baseball game I've ever been part of,' said Johnson, who coached at Arizona before going to LSU. Of more concern for the Tigers may be the winds, which weren't really gusting Friday so much as howling, up to 40 mph. Suffice it to say, if a game had been played Friday, there would have been no home runs. That could hurt the Tigers, who rely far more on the long ball than Coastal Carolina and its small-ball style. 'It's just something you kind of expect this time of year,' Johnson said. 'Here in 2023 (when LSU won it all) we had wind blowing inn for the majority of the tournament.' D PAYBACK? Forget about LSU being better known in college baseball's circles. The Tigers might have the revenge factor against the Chanticleers. Coastal is 2-0 all-time against LSU, both games coming in the 2016 super regional in Baton Rouge that propelled the Chants to Omaha and the national title. Right fielder Jake Brown of Sulphur was 9 years old then, but already a big fan and remembers it well. 'A little bit of heartbreak,' he remembered. 'That was a great (LSU) team I think could have made a good run in the championship. Things didn't go our way. 'Look forward to turning it around and making something good happen this time.' Brown doesn't lack for confidence. He knew LSU would get this chance. 'This isn't something that caught us by surprise,' he said. 'We knew were meant to be here.' DO IT AGAIN: Johnson is trying to win his second national championship in four years at LSU. No other coach in NCAA history has multiple titles in less than eight years at a school. STAND THEIR GROUND: Coastal Carolina set an NCAA record by getting hit by pitches 176 times. The Chan- ticleers have been hit pitches six times in Omaha. 'They don't eat if they get out of the way,' Coastal head coach Kevin Schnall said. 'No, it's just something our guys have bought into. Our guys are obsessed with getting on base.' LSU gets hit more than most teams, but has 91. FIRST ON THE FIELD: LSU will be the home team in the first game.
