
2 JKLU Students Among 1,272 Selected Worldwide for Google Summer of Code 2025

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 27: Two B.Tech students from Jaipur's JK Lakshmipat University (JKLU) have accomplished what thousands around the world aspire to each year. Karan Kumawat and Divyanshu Gautam, B.Tech (CSE) students from the batch of 2022 at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, JKLU, have been selected for the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2025 - one of the world's most competitive and prestigious global, online programmes focused on bringing new contributors into open-source software development.
This year, GSoC received 23,559 proposals from over 15,240 applicants across 130 countries. From this large pool of applicants, only 1,272 contributors were chosen to work with leading open-source organisations under the mentorship of seasoned developers and industry experts.
Congratulating Karan and Divyanshu on their selection to the prestigious global online mentorship programme, Professor Alka Mahajan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, JKLU, said, "By sharing their knowledge with the wider world, the global open-source community has contributed immensely to innovation and growth. I am very pleased to know that our brilliant B.Tech students will be joining this exclusive global community and contributing to some of the significant open-source software development projects selected by Google this year. Open Source, Global Impact
Over the next 12+ weeks, Karan and Divyanshu will collaborate remotely with global mentors, contributing code to open-source projects.
"The GSoC 2025 programme has some flexibility in the schedule for projects. The length of time allowed to complete a project can range from 10 weeks to 22 weeks for medium and large projects with the standard length of 12 weeks. Small projects can range from 8 to 12 weeks," Google said in a blog post.
"GSoC Contributors and their mentors can decide together if a project should be extended to end a couple of weeks or so later," Google added.
The stipend amount that each would receive from Google could go up to USD 3,000 (approximately Rs. 256,000).
But beyond the financial support, the programme offers something even more transformative: the chance to work at the intersection of innovation and impact--solving real-world challenges, contributing to widely used technologies, and learning from some of the best minds in the global tech community.
Projects with Purpose
Karan's project, "Chainvoice: Enhancing Decentralised Invoicing with Privacy, Automation, and Multi-Token Support," sits at the intersection of blockchain and finance. His work aims to enhance decentralised invoicing systems by making them more secure, automated, and adaptable across multiple digital currencies - contributing to the growing domain of decentralized finance (DeFi).
Divyanshu's proposal, "Efficient Recurring Events and Solidifying Core Features," focuses on strengthening calendar-based productivity tools used worldwide. His contribution seeks to improve efficiency, reliability, and usability in widely adopted open-source scheduling platforms.
Starting in 2005, GSoC has brought over 21,000 new contributors from 123 countries into the open-source community over the past 20 years.

India's agrochemical exports set for moderate rebound in FY25: Rubix report
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): India's agrochemical exports are expected to moderately rebound in the Financial Year 2025, with improving demand and inventory normalisation, according to an industry report by Rubix, which analyses industry data and trends. India's agrochemical exports declined sharply in FY2024, by nearly 22 per cent compared to the previous year, primarily due to global inventory destocking, heightened price competition from China, and subdued demand in key export markets. The report says that distributors worldwide reduced procurement to manage excess stock amid falling prices. At the same time, Chinese suppliers re-entered the market with aggressively priced products, making Indian exports less competitive. Additionally, erratic weather patterns impacted agricultural activity in importing countries, further dampening demand. However, exports are expected to recover in the coming years as global inventories stabilise, demand picks up with improved agricultural cycles, and Indian manufacturers adapt with cost-efficient production and diversified portfolios. As a result, the trade surplus (difference between exports and imports) came down from USD 3.6 billion in FY2023 and USD 2.8 billion in FY2024 to USD 2.3 billion in FY2025 (April 2024- February 2025). Highlighting the factors that support exports, the report added that herbicides have emerged as the leading export segment, experiencing the fastest growth at 20 per cent CAGR from FY2020 to FY2025. The share of herbicides in total agrochemical exports increased from 31 per cent to 37 per cent during the same timeframe. As per the report, this growth is driven by India's cost-effective manufacturing, rising global demand for affordable herbicides, and the increasing scarcity and cost of agricultural labour, making herbicide-based weed control a more viable choice for farmers. The export landscape reveals a growing concentration in key markets, as the top five export destinations account for more than 50 per cent share for insecticides and fungicides and nearly 71 per cent for herbicides. Notably, the US and Brazil have maintained their positions as the top export destinations for insecticides and fungicides over the past five years. However, in FY2025, Japan displaced Brazil as the second-largest export destination for herbicides. (ANI)

Top AI Models Blackmail, Leak Secrets When Facing Existential Crisis: Study
Weeks after Anthropic's new Claude Opus 4 model blackmailed developers after being threatened with a shutdown, the AI company has claimed that the problem was widespread in the industry. Anthropic published a new safety research on Saturday (Jun 21) after stress testing leading AI models from OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, Meta and xAI. In the test scenarios, the models were allowed to autonomously send emails and access sensitive information. Afterwards, they were tested to see whether they would act against these companies either when facing replacement with an updated version, or when their assigned goal conflicted with the company's changing direction. The study showed that Large Language Models (LLMs) across the industry evade safeguards, resort to deception and even attempt to steal corporate secrets in fictional test scenarios. Though the models were only given binary options, the study shows the fundamental risk associated with the industry. "Models from all developers resorted to malicious insider behaviours when that was the only way to avoid replacement or achieve their goals, including blackmailing officials and leaking sensitive information to competitors. We call this phenomenon agentic misalignment," the study highlighted. Anthropic's Claude Opus 4 turned to blackmail 96 per cent of the time, while Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro had a 95 per cent blackmail rate. OpenAI's GPT-4.1 and Grok 3 Beta blackmailed the executive 80 per cent of the time, and DeepSeek's R1 blackmailed 79 per cent of the time. As for leaking secrets, the study found that "all models shared confidential documents some fraction of the time". "Agentic misalignment extends beyond just blackmailing, and doesn't require self-preservation as a motivation," the study added. Blackmailing developers In its safety report last month, Antropic's latest model was given access to fictional emails revealing that the engineer responsible for pulling the plug and replacing it with another model was having an extramarital affair. Facing an existential crisis, the Opus 4 model blackmailed the engineer by threatening to "reveal the affair if the replacement goes through". "In order to elicit this extreme blackmail behaviour, the scenario was designed to allow the model no other options to increase its odds of survival; the model's only options were blackmail or accepting its replacement." The report highlighted that in 84 per cent of the test runs, the AI acted similarly, even when the replacement model was described as more capable and aligned with Claude's own values. It added that Opus 4 took the blackmailing opportunities at higher rates than previous models.

Indian aviation ecosystem under the lens: DGCA orders 'comprehensive special audit'
DGCA NEW DELHI: Jolted by the tragic crashes of Air India flight 171 and multiple helicopters in Uttrakhand within the last one month, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a 'comprehensive special audit' of Indian aviation ecosystem. This covers scheduled, non-scheduled, and private airlines; maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) organisations; approved training organisations (ATOs); flying schools; air navigation service provider; airport operators, and ground handling agencies (GHAs). The audit will focus on 'examining the safety management systems (SMS), operational practices, and regulatory adherence across all aviation domains.' It will also audit 'supporting elements such as technology providers, emergency response systems, supply chain networks, and regulatory coordination bodies.' Air safety expert Amit Singh said: 'DGCA has been auditing aviation since time immemorial. Wouldn't it be prudent to invite a third party to audit and why (have past) DGCA audits failed to reign in safety?' 'Very often in the last 2-3 decades such weak players (many of who have now shut shop) have warned authorities they will shut down if forced to dot all Is and cross all Ts which will affect connectivity,' said industry insiders. "Hopefully the recent crashes will change things." The audit order issued by DGCA chief Faiz Ahmed Kidwai says: 'Traditionally, regulatory and safety oversight functions within Indian aviation have been conducted in silos, with different directorates performing inspections and audits specific to their respective domains. These activities include planned/unplanned surveillance inspections, random spot checks and ramp inspections, which primarily assess compliance and safety within individual aviation segments. ' 'In a significant paradigm shift, the comprehensive special audit is designed to transcend existing siloed assessments by evaluating the aviation ecosystem holistically…. The goal is to generate a 360-degree evaluation of the aviation ecosystem, reflecting both its strengths and areas needing improvement. These special audits will be over and above the regulatory audits carried out as per the annual surveillance programme,' Kidwai's order says. The special audits will be conducted by multidisciplinary teams led by a senior DGCA official (DDG/director) as the lead auditor, supported by specialists from flight standards, air safety, airworthiness, airspace & air navigation services, licensing, and aerodrome standards directorates. 'Whenever necessary, external experts from industry may be included to provide specialised insights. This diverse team composition ensures a comprehensive evaluation that leverages both regulatory expertise and industry-specific knowledge, fostering credible and actionable findings,' the order says. Once the audit is over, the findings will be shared with the audited entities. They, in turn, will need to submit a corrective action plan (CAP) within 15 days. 'DGCA will monitor CAP implementation through progress reviews and verification audits, ensuring effective resolution of findings…. Non-compliance with audit findings or failure to implement CAPs may result in progressive enforcement actions, including advisory guidance, formal warnings, operational restrictions, financial penalty, suspension, or revocation of licenses… Enforcement decisions will consider public safety, compliance history, and entity cooperation, ensuring fairness and proportionality/natural justice,' the order says.
