APEC Finance Ministers to launch new roadmap in October
KUALA LUMPUR: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers will unveil a new roadmap this October to replace the Cebu Action Plan, setting out priorities for the Finance Ministers' Process (FMP) over the next five years, said Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.
She said the roadmap would outline medium-term initiatives and deliverables under the FMP, aimed at advancing APEC's Putrajaya Vision of an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community.
'It is critical for ASEAN members to work together within APEC, to ensure that our common priorities in Southeast Asia are well-embedded in this new Asia-Pacific roadmap and that initiatives in ASEAN and APEC are consistent with each other and mutually supportive,' she said.
Lim was speaking during her keynote address at a joint forum by the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), and the Asia-Pacific Financial Forum (APFF) today.

Cambodia bans fuel, gas imports from Thailand from midnight Sunday
PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia will ban imports of all fuel and gas from Thailand from Sunday midnight after border tensions between the two Asean member states have mounted. "Starting from midnight (Sunday), all fuel and gas imports from Thailand will be halted," Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said in a post on his official social media platforms. "Fuel supply companies in Cambodia are able to import sufficiently from other sources to meet domestic fuel and gas demands within the country," he said. In addition, Cambodia on Sunday advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Thailand. Border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand have risen recently after soldiers of both countries briefly exchanged gunfire in a disputed border area on May 28, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier. - Xinhua

Sabah mining scandal: MACC confirms arrest of second Sabah assemblyman, releases him on RM50,000 bail
KOTA KINABALU, June 23 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah has detained another state assemblyman on suspicion of soliciting and receiving bribes to facilitate the issuance of mineral exploration licences in the state. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at 9.30am today while giving his statement at the MACC Sabah office. The MACC, however, did not name the suspect. Earlier today, it was reported that Tanjung Batu state assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy arrived at the MACC Sabah office at around 9am, accompanied by two lawyers. Andi also serves as the Sabah state industrial development and entrepreneurship assistant minister. The MACC, citing a 'source', said the suspect was believed to have solicited and received around RM150,000 from an individual with a 'Datuk' title, purportedly in exchange for assistance with a mineral exploration licence application. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2023 and 2024. In December last year, a video of Andi was published by Malaysiakini showing him in discussion with a businessman over the procurement of a mining licence. Andi, who is from Barisan Nasional, is also the Kalabakan MP. The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. He was released on MACC bail of RM50,000 (without deposit) with one surety after giving his statement. He is expected to be charged in court soon, along with Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yacob and businessman Datuk Albert Teh, who had brought forward the series of videos that sparked the prospecting licence scandal.

JCG Vice Commander for Operations, Vice Admiral Kanosue Hiroaki, said the goal is to foster cooperation and coordination with regional maritime partners in line with a rules-based international order. bootstrap slideshow He said the efforts are part of Japan's broader Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) strategy, which champions freedom of navigation and respect for international law. 'Our objective is not to seek conflict, but to reach a common understanding with respective countries on international law, and for their enforcement agencies to act accordingly,' he said at a press conference in conjunction with the port call of JCG patrol vessel Mizuho at Port Klang Cruise Terminal (PKCT), Monday. Kanosue said this in response to a question about Japan's increasing presence in the region through joint maritime exercises amid rising tension in the South China Sea. Last week, the JCG completed joint drills with the United States and the Philippines in the Kagoshima Bay, southwestern Japan. This followed a joint maritime exercise with the Philippines held in the town of Masinloc on the Philippines' main island of Luzon, on June 14. This is the Mizuho's first deployment to Malaysia. Beginning today, the vessel will take part in a five-day strategic mission involving joint exercise drills with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). The training includes arresting techniques, boarding exercises, and the use of long-range acoustic devices.
