Egypt condemns deadly Damascus church terrorist bombing that Killed 22

Egypt on Monday condemned a terrorist bombing that targeted St. Elias Church in Damascus, an attack which Syrian authorities said killed 22 people and injured 59 others. In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry extended its sincere condolences to the Syrian people and the victims' families, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The government reaffirmed its unwavering position against all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism. The statement also reiterated the importance of uniting regional and international efforts to eliminate terrorism, eradicate its sources, and confront criminal acts that seek to undermine security and stability. Syrian officials have announced that their preliminary investigation indicates the involvement of the ISIS organisation. According to Syrian Ministry of Interior Spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba, the perpetrator was a suicide bomber. Speaking at a press conference, he stated that the attacker entered the church, opened fire, and then detonated his explosives. Al-Baba added that 'the attack did not target a specific sect, but all Syrians,' noting that the operation was intended to incite sectarian strife and destabilise the country. He emphasised that the security of places of worship is a 'red line' and that all those involved in this act will be held accountable. The Syrian Ministry of Health confirmed the casualty figures from the attack, which occurred in the capital's Duwaila'a district. In a statement broadcast by Syria TV, the ministry noted that the injured had been transported to hospitals to receive necessary medical care and that their conditions were being continuously and directly monitored. Following the explosion, Internal Security Forces established a tight security cordon around the church. The measures included closing all roads leading to the site, as well as shuttering other churches in the nearby neighbourhoods of Bab Touma, Bab Sharqi, al-Qassaa, and Duwaila'a as a precaution against potential future attacks.

El-Sisi Reaffirms Egypt's Global Role at UN's 80th Anniv. Commemoration

Ahmed Emam Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's longstanding commitment to international peace and multilateralism during his participation in the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, held in Moscow. Speaking via videoconference, El-Sisi praised the UN's legacy since its founding in 1945, and underscored Egypt's central role in supporting its mission over the decades. He described the occasion as a timely reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold international peace, security, and sustainable development. 'Eliminating the root causes of conflict must remain a top priority,' El-Sisi said, calling for strengthened efforts in preventive diplomacy and inclusive development. 'Peacekeeping cannot be a substitute for comprehensive political solutions.' The president highlighted Egypt's status as a founding member of the United Nations and one of its leading contributors to peacekeeping missions. Since 1960, Egypt has deployed more than 30,000 peacekeepers to 37 UN missions across 24 countries—one of the highest among member states. El-Sisi also announced Egypt's readiness to support the UN's institutional reform efforts under the UN80 initiative, offering to host regional offices or agencies seeking relocation. He pointed to Egypt's strategic geographic location, robust infrastructure, and favorable time zone as key advantages for enhancing UN operational efficiency. The commemoration coincided with Russia's Victory Day and was attended by several international leaders. El-Sisi's participation follows his recent visit to Moscow, where he held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting Egypt's active diplomatic engagement on both bilateral and multilateral fronts. The Egyptian leader concluded his remarks by stressing the importance of revitalizing multilateral institutions to meet the evolving challenges of the 21st century. 'Our shared future depends on the principles of cooperation, solidarity, and collective action,' he said. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Egypt, China agree to boost economic ties, organise investment forum

Egypt and China have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation in key sectors such as electric vehicles, electronics, and artificial intelligence, and will coordinate to organise an investment promotion forum in Egypt, the Egyptian Investment Ministry said in a Monday statement. The agreement came during a meeting in Beijing between Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in several fields, including electric cars, feeder industries, electronics, water desalination, solar panels, and artificial intelligence. They also agreed to collaborate on strengthening supply chains. Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao praised the bilateral trade volume, which has reached $17bn, affirming that China remains Egypt's largest trading partner. He highlighted successful investment cooperation in the TEDA-Suez zone, which has attracted significant Chinese investment, alongside major projects implemented by Chinese firms, including the Iconic Tower and Central Business District in the New Administrative Capital, the electric train, and renewable energy projects. Wang also stressed his keenness to enhance cooperation in e-commerce, infrastructure, and renewable energy. For his part, Minister El-Khatib emphasised the importance of maximising the strategic partnership through joint investments, particularly amid global economic fluctuations. He promoted Egypt's competitive advantages, including its strategic location and numerous trade agreements, which position it as an ideal hub for production and export for Chinese companies seeking access to regional and global markets. El-Khatib said he looked forward to an expected visit by the Chinese Premier to Egypt next month, which he said would be an opportunity to translate agreements into tangible projects. He also noted Egypt's commitment to improving its investment climate and adhering to World Trade Organization rules. During the meeting, El-Khatib reviewed the outcomes of the ninth session of the Egypt-China joint committee held last December and proposed that the tenth session be held in Egypt this year. He stressed the importance of increasing the trade volume to reflect the depth of the two countries' economic ties.
