
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro just flew to the top of my drone wish list
DJI has just revealed its new flagship drone, and it's taking the Mavic range to new heights. Not literally, of course – the new Mavic 4 Pro is subject to the same altitude restrictions as previous generations – but in terms of performance, features and all-round appeal. This is the company's latest top of the range consumer camera drone, supplanting the excellent Mavic 3 Pro.
It builds on that previous model in every significant way: camera performance, flight performance and battery life. Let's start with the camera. As with the Mavic 3 Pro, there are actually three cameras on board the Mavic 4 Pro, covering wide, medium telephoto and telephoto focal lengths.
The Hasselblad-branded wide-angle camera offers a 28mm equivalent focal length and a new 4/3 sensor offering 16 stops of dynamic range, 100MP still photos, 6K video recording at up to 60fps; it also has an adjustable aperture offering an f/2.0 to f/11 range. The medium tele camera offers a 70mm focal length, 48MP stills and 4K video at up to 60fps from its 1/1.3in sensor, while the tele camera offers 168mm, 50MP stills and 4K/60fps video from its 1/1.5in sensor. Both have fixed f/2.8 apertures.
All three cameras support 10-bit 4:2:2 video, colour modes including HLG and D-Log, plus slow-motion capture at 4K quality (120fps for the wide and medium tele cameras, 100fps for the tele camera).
To Infinity and beyond
They're also all mounted on a brand-new 'Infinity' gimbal, which has a much greater range of motion than previous designs: not only can it tilt up and down much further, it'll also rotate to record 9:16 portrait footage that's ready to go straight to TikTok, Reels or YouTube Shorts. In fact, it can rotate through a full 360° if needed.
There are huge improvements to battery life, too (it's now up to 51 minutes of flight on a full charge – 8 minutes more than the Mavic 3 Pro), while flight safety gets a boost thanks to a more sensitive obstacle detection system that deploys LiDAR at the front and night-friendly low-light vision sensors in all directions. DJI promises that this makes the Mavic 4 Pro a lot more capable of avoiding collisions in darker conditions, as well as clever enough to return to home without the use of GPS.
The design is more aerodynamic too, boosting flight speed. In fact, having flown the Mavic 4 Pro a few times myself, I found it incredibly zippy and surprisingly quiet for a larger drone. It weighs over a kilo, so it's subject to quite a few restrictions about where it can be flown, but it doesn't fly like a heavyweight model.
The DJI Mavic 4 Pro is available to order now from DJI's site in a range of packages. The most basic bundle is just the drone, one battery and one RC 2 controller for £1879/€2099, while the Fly More Combo featuring an additional two batteries, charging hub and shoulder bag is £2459/€2699. Top of the heap is the Creator Combo, which comes with the same plus a 240W power adapter for fast charging, a new RC Pro 2 controller and a drone with 512GB of built-in storage (the regular model has 64GB). It costs £3209/€3539.
If you're wondering where the US prices are, DJI has yet to confirm them – probably due to the current situation with tariffs. It could be a while before the DJI Mavic 4 Pro arrives in the States, we suspect. That's a great shame, because it's looking like the best premium consumer drone around right now.

Sting's heartwrenching tribute to drummer who collapsed live on stage

The drummer who was supporting the legendary musician in Liverpool left fans concerned after he appeared to collapse before going into arrest at the iconic Pier Head on Sunday. Lead singer of the band, Garry, requested urgent assistance from the medical teams before a privacy screen was set up on stage. It was during this time that medics worked rapidly to perform CPR on Lionel, whose heart had stopped beating. Lionel was subsequently rushed to the hospital via ambulance after the emergency staff managed to resuscitate him. But while many wondered whether the show would continue, Sting, 73, later took to the stage and reassured fans who had packed the waterfront that Lionel was doing ok and was receiving treatment. One fan who was in attendance said: "We were kept updated, and Sting sang 'Fragile' after asking us all to hold Lionel in our thoughts." A second penned: "We were at the Waterfront - Sting was updating us all in the crowd and wished Lionel well and encouraged us all to think for him and sang Fragile as the final song for the evening." While on stage, the Grammy Award-winning musician said: "The drummer in the band before is OK. He's in hospital. All of us are praying he's going to be fine. Our thoughts are with him." As the sad incident unfolded, event organisers kept fans updated throughout with messages being displayed on huge screens. One read: "We appreciate your patience and understanding. Medical staff are with the performer, and we will provide an update as soon as we can." Shortly after, a spokesperson for the band, who is believed to be their manager, shared an update with fans – explaining that Lionel had suffered a cardiac arrest. She said: "We're really hoping he is going to make it. He didn't have a pulse; he's got one now, we think. Thank you so much." The band also encouraged Sting to perform. Earlier today, the band issued a statement on social media on Lionel's condition, explaining they are still awaiting news. They said: "Thank you so much to all the many many messages regarding our drummer Lionel Duke who suffered a cardiac arrest while performing at tonight's amazing concert ahead of Sting. We are awaiting news from the Heart and Chest hospital at Broad Green and thank the phenomenal team of medics present from On The Waterfront Liverpool team who stepped in so swiftly to help our poor Lionel." Fans of the group rushed to offer their support, with one praising the medical team for their swift response. They said: "Was at the gig in the front seen it all unfold what swift action by his band and first aid responders and the event staff for making it dignified by shielding Lionel with a make shift curtain whilst they performed the c.p.r I know he is in good hands at Broadgreen." A second went on to write: "It was terrifying to see poor Lionel slump forward. I was so proud of the respect the Liverpool crowd showed falling silent, no photos and many people turned around. We were kept updated, and Sting sang 'fragile' after asking us all to hold Lionel in our thoughts. Wishing him a speedy recovery. He is in good hands at Broadgreen." Another typed: "It was very worrying when Lionel slumped forwards onto his drums. Seeing the black screens go up. They were working on him on the stage for a while. I'm so pleased he is doing OK. It was frightening to see. Best wishes to Lionel." "It was so awful to witness! Sending love and positive energy for a speedy recovery for Lionel. And sending love to Garry and the rest of the band too who must have been incredibly shaken," added a fourth.

More info Edinburgh locals have been lining up outside a new chocolate shop and cafe in an upmarket neighbourhood. Nama welcomed customers in at the start of the month at North West Circus Place in Stockbridge. Opened by Hamilton Harman, it's the entrepreneurs second hospitality business in the city, after opening Matcha Sando in Bruntsfield. The 27-year-old has been a matcha fan for 10 years, but said opening a chocolate shop was his 'dream'. On the day of opening a huge queue stretched down the street as eager foodies waited to be among the first inside. The team were giving away 100 free Isle of Skye hot chocolates to the first people through the door. A message on Instagram reads: "Wow what a lovely opening day turnout despite all the setbacks (behind the scenes our plumber finished working an hour before opening and our supplier delivered late leaving us just 30 minutes to sort stock. "Apologies for the limited menu and retail items while we sort and smooth things out. Thank you so much. "See you all soon and hope you enjoyed - Hamilton, owner and master chocolatier." Speaking to Edinburgh Live ahead of opening, Hamilton added: "Everything is coming together now and I am starting to feel confident. We had to unpack so much stuff including all of the equipment and things but once everything cleared, you started to see the light again. "It's a cocoa, matcha and coffee bar and we are focusing on those three. We actually have our own secret recipe for our hot chocolate and I had been developing it for five years. "I always wanted something to call my own - especially the chocolate shop because it was my 10-year dream. "I have been drinking matcha for 10 years and it really puts a smile on my face when the customers are just as passionate as me. They also love the way we innovate things." British nationals told to prepare for emergency flights home
America attacked three nuclear sites in Iran at the weekend as Iran launched missiles into Israel. Keir Starmer has urged British nationals in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories to make contact with the Foreign Office as it prepares for an evacuation flight. It comes after the US attacked three nuclear sites in Iran overnight and Tehran responded by launching a ballistic missile barrage against Israel. Speaking to Sky News, Sir Keir Starmer said: 'I urge all citizens to make contact with the Foreign Office so that we can facilitate whatever support is needed.' He added that the Government will help evacuate British citizens on charter flights 'as soon as we can'. Sir Keir said: 'Well for British citizens, we've been saying for some time to register their presence. And so far as Israel is concerned, just as soon as we can get charter flights off, we will do so," reports Wales Online. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has urged British nationals to register their details and interest in evacuation flights, the first of which it said will take off early this week. It said further flights 'will be considered depending on demand and the latest security situation'. According to the Israeli Government, some 22,000 tourists are seeking to board evacuation flights, but it is unclear how many of these are UK citizens. Brits who have already registered will automatically be contacted and provided with a link to the booking portal, the FCDO said. Those eligible for the flights will be expected to pay for their own seat – and payment will be taken on registration on the flight booking form. The FCDO added that those with 'greatest need' will be prioritised, and British nationals plus their non-British immediate family members travelling with them are all eligible. All passengers must have a valid travel document, and those non-British immediate family members will require valid visas/permission to enter or remain that was granted for more than six months, the FCDO said. The UK has been working on charter flights for Britons in Israel but none have so far taken off as the country's airspace has been closed in recent days. Business Secretary Jonathon Reynolds told Sky News on Sunday morning: 'We are in active conversations about chartering aircraft to get people out.' Asked if that will happen imminently, Mr Reynolds said: 'I believe our intention would be to do that as soon as possible… hours, not days.' Meanwhile, shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel told Times Radio the UK 'must not be behind the curve' in evacuating its nationals. "The Government's got to start moving fast now in terms of British nationals in Israel,' Dame Priti said. 'They've been talking about this for days… Israeli airspace is shut down. The Americans are ready to evacuate 25,000 US nationals — we must not be behind the curve.' Last night, Ireland's deputy premier Simon Harris said 15 Irish citizens had been evacuated from Israel. He said the group will arrive in the coming days after being evacuated with the help of the Austrian government. The FCDO has warned Brits not to make their way to the airport unless they are contacted. A spokesperson said: 'This is a perilous and volatile moment for the Middle East. The safety of British nationals in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories continues to be our utmost priority – that's why the UK Government is preparing flights to help those wanting to leave. 'Working closely with the Israeli authorities, our staff are continuing to work at pace to assist British nationals on the ground and ensure they receive the support they need.' Commercial flights remain in operation from neighbouring Egypt and Jordan to the UK, and international land border crossings to these countries are open. The FCDO said the situation 'remains volatile' and the Government's ability to run flights out of Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories 'could change at short notice'.
