Javed Akhtar lauds Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par after it records a massive Day 2 jump at the box office. 'Who says good films have no takers?'
Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the impressive box office performance of Aamir Khan's latest film Sitaare Zameen Par. The film, which opened to moderate numbers on day one, reportedly witnessed a massive surge on its second day—prompting praise from cinephiles and industry veterans alike.
'So happy to learn about the record leap that Sitaare Zameen Par has taken at the box office on the second day. Who says good films have no takers in the audience. Congratulations to Aamir Khan and his team," wrote Akhtar in a heartfelt post on June 22.
Aamir Khan's cinematic comeback is proving to be a box office success as Sitaare Zameen Par continues to rise with each passing day. Released on June 20, 2025, the heartfelt drama has struck a nostalgic chord with audiences, hailed as the spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par (2007). Directed by R.S. Prasanna and co-starring Genelia Deshmukh, the film is riding on strong word-of-mouth and audience goodwill.
After a respectable start, Sitaare Zameen Par witnessed an impressive surge in earnings on its second day. According to early trade estimates, the film collected ₹19.72 crore on Saturday, bringing its total to ₹30.42 crore in just two days. The film had opened with ₹10.7 crore on Friday, and the upward momentum has industry watchers hopeful for a strong weekend finish.
In comparison, Aamir's previous film Laal Singh Chaddha had managed ₹18.96 crore in its first two days, making Sitaare Zameen Par a significant improvement. While it still trails behind Akshay Kumar's Sky Force (₹34.25 crore), it performed notably better than Kesari Chapter 2, which earned ₹17.5 crore in the same window.
Sitaare Zameen Par is a blend of sports, drama, and heartfelt comedy, produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. It also marks the Hindi debut of several fresh faces — Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar — while supporting performances come from seasoned talents like Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal.
The film follows Gulshan (played by Aamir Khan), a disgraced basketball coach who, after a DUI conviction, is assigned to teach the game to a group of neurodivergent children. What starts as punishment evolves into a journey of transformation for both coach and team. Genelia Deshmukh plays Sunita, Gulshan's supportive wife.
News18 gave Sitaare Zameen Par a 3.5-star rating. A part of our review read, 'Unlike Taare Zameen Par's Nikumbh, Gulshan isn't perfect. This is a flawed, man-child character, dealing with his own traumas, learning to navigate life with the help of those who suffer developmental delays. So far, on paper, Sitaare Zameen Par seems rather fantastic, novel, and heartfelt. And don't get us wrong — it definitely is all of that. But it also has its share of flaws that become a bump in its path to becoming a great film. To start with, at 2 hours 39 minutes, the film appears to be an extremely long and slow-moving affair."
As the weekend unfolds, all eyes are on Sunday's box office numbers to see if Sitaare Zameen Par can maintain its stellar streak.

BTS' RM caught smoking in Paris? Netizens claim idol ‘wants to go viral so bad', fans fire back in defense

BTS' Kim Namjoon, better known as RM, is under social media scrutiny after a short video clip began circulating online. It allegedly shows him smoking on a public sidewalk in Paris. The video, originally posted by a user on X (formerly Twitter), quickly spread across platforms. Netizens debate whether the man seen in the footage was indeed the globally recognized K-pop idol. According to online chatter, the person in the video was spotted on a busy Parisian street casually smoking alone. The figure's face was mostly obscured and the video quality was far from clear. However, many online users began speculating that the individual resembled RM. Accusations of disrespect Amid the buzz, a subset of viewers accused the individual in the video, believed by some to be RM, of behaving inappropriately. One particular claim that gained traction alleged that the man had smoked in close proximity to another person. Some users speculated he may have blown smoke in their direction. This behavior was deemed disrespectful by several commenters. Critics labeled the behavior inconsiderate and began raising questions about the idol's public manners. Some threads on social media condemned the alleged incident. They state that celebrities should be more mindful of their surroundings, especially when in public spaces abroad. Fans rush to RM's defense ARMYs, BTS' loyal fanbase, swiftly countered the criticism. Many fans watched the video closely and argued there was no clear evidence that RM was smoking in anyone's face. In fact, some claimed there was no one standing directly in front of the man at all, challenging the initial accusations. Others emphasized that, even if it were RM in the video, he is a legal adult capable of making his own choices. Fans reminded critics that smoking outdoors is not illegal in Paris. They added that public figures should not be expected to live under constant surveillance or be held to unrealistic standards. Privacy concerns Beyond the smoking debate, many ARMYs turned their focus toward the broader issue of celebrity privacy. The resurfacing of blurry, unsolicited photos and videos of idols during their downtime has long been a sensitive topic in K-pop fandoms. The latest incident reignited discussions about boundaries and the ethics of sharing unconfirmed, candid footage of stars. BTS members complete military service: What's next? While the online community debates the authenticity and ethics surrounding the video, BTS fans also have reason to celebrate. As of this month, all seven members of BTS have officially completed their mandatory military service. RM, who enlisted in late 2023, is also now discharged. The group's military chapter has now come to a close, prompting fans to eagerly anticipate what comes next. HYBE has not yet released any official announcements about group activities, comeback schedules, or solo releases. But speculation is already building across fan forums and music platforms.

Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 3: Aamir Khan's film earns Rs 60.1 cr, set to surpass Laal Singh Chaddha's lifetime; outperforms Jaat, Kesari 2, Sikandar

Sitaare Zameen Par box office day 3: After a shaky start, Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par has quickly redeemed itself over its first weekend. According to Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 29.22 crore on Sunday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 60.12 crore within just three days of release. Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection and occupancy The Aamir Khan-starrer began its box office journey with Rs 10.7 crore — a little underwhelming, especially when compared to the year's biggest hit Chhaava, which raked in Rs 31 crore on its opening day. Despite the lukewarm start, Sitaare Zameen Par saw an impressive 88.79 percent jump in collections on Saturday, earning Rs 20.2 crore. The upward trend continued on Sunday, with a further 44.65 percent increase, as the film raked in Rs 29.22 crore. The film is getting a solid word-of-mouth from audience after receiving positive reviews from critics. While the film has been released in multiple languages — Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu — the core audience remains in the Hindi belt. On Sunday, the film earned Rs 29 crore from the Hindi version, while the Tamil version contributed Rs 17 lakh and the Telugu version a modest Rs 5 lakh to the domestic collection. It saw 50.70 percent Hindi occupancy, 41.59 percent Tamil occupancy and 21.92 percent Telugu occupancy on Sunday. Sitaare Zameen Par box office vs 2025's biggest hits Overall, Sitaare Zameen Par has collected Rs 49.42 crore over Saturday and Sunday — less than Chhaava's Rs 85 crore and Housefull 5's Rs 63.5 crore during the same period. However, Aamir's film has fared better than many other big 2025 releases. However, Sitaare Zameen Par's performance stands out as the film is not a tentpole, which has become de rigueur for post-pandemic theatrical releases. Instead, Aamir brings forth a heartwarming story with a largely new cast of neurodivergent actors with a message. For instance, Raid 2 minted Rs 30 crore, Sikandar earned Rs 30 crore on its first Saturday and Sunday, Kesari Chapter 2 collected Rs 22.75 crore, and Sunny Deol's Jaat pulled in Rs 23.75 crore on their respective opening weekends. Sitaare Zameen Par box office vs Aamir Khan's previous releases Aamir Khan's last film, Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), was a major box office disappointment, minting a total of Rs 61.36 crore in domestic collection in its lifetime. Sitaare Zameen Par has already raked in Rs 60.12 crore in just three days and is poised to surpass Laal Singh Chaddha's lifetime domestic earnings very soon. Prior to that, Aamir's 2018 release Thugs of Hindostan also underperformed. It collected Rs 41.5 crore over its first weekend — lower than Sitaare Zameen Par's Rs 49.42 crore. Despite a massive budget of Rs 300 crore, Thugs of Hindostan could only manage Rs 133 crore in total domestic revenue. Aamir's 2017 release Secret Superstar also saw moderate success, with a lifetime domestic collection of Rs 81.28 crore. Given the current trajectory, Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to surpass this number within five days of release. Aamir's last massive hit remains 2016's Dangal, which earned a staggering Rs 387.38 crore in domestic collections. Dangal had minted Rs 77.23 crore over its first weekend, significantly higher than Sitaare Zameen Par's Rs 49.42 crore. Apart from Aamir, Sitaare Zameen Par also stars Genelia Deshmukh and is directed by RS Prasanna.
