Oregon Ducks target Khary Adams announces college commitment

Oregon Ducks target Khary Adams announces college commitment

USA Today6 hours ago

The Oregon Ducks have been recruiting 4-star cornerback Khary Adams strongly over the past few months, but on Friday afternoon, they got some unwanted news.
Adams, the No. 36 player and No. 3 cornerback in the 2026 class, per 247Sports, announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It appeared that this was the likely outcome over the past week, especially when Adams cancelled an official visit that he had planned to Eugene for this weekend.
Adams stands at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, and is from Towson, Maryland. It makes sense for him to stick closer to home at Notre Dame, but he would have been a significant win for Oregon had they been able to land him.
This may not be the only win that Notre Dame gets over the Ducks on Friday in the recruiting world, either. 5-star safety Joey O'Brien is scheduled to announce his commitment later this afternoon, and the expectation is that the Oregon target is also going to end up committing to the Fighting Irish as well.
While these are two unfortunate losses for the Ducks on the recruiting trail, they did get to celebrate a big win on Thursday, with 5-star safety Jett Washington joining Oregon's 2026 class. Washington is rated as the No. 18 player in the nation, and he becomes the No. 1-ranked safety to ever commit to the Ducks.

Notre Dame wins key recruiting battles for top-75 DBs Joey O'Brien, Khary Adams

If last year's run to the national championship game taught Marcus Freeman a lesson, Notre Dame's recent recruiting run may be evidence the Irish head coach understood the assignment. On Friday afternoon, Notre Dame landed a commitment from four-star cornerback Khary Adams of Towson, Md., beating out Penn State, Michigan and Oregon. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback is ranked as the No. 75 player in the 247Sports Composite for the Class of 2026. He could be the highest-ranked cornerback signed by Notre Dame since Brian Kelly arrived. Advertisement On Friday evening, Notre Dame landed a commitment from safety Joey O'Brien, a four-star prospect ranked No. 65 in the 247Sports Composite — though he's a five-star prospect in 247Sports' own rankings. The Philadelphia-area product chose Notre Dame over Oregon, Clemson and Penn State, with all four programs getting official visits. O'Brien was part of Notre Dame's nearly two-dozen official visitors last weekend, including four-star offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh, his high school teammate at LaSalle College High School. McKeogh committed to Notre Dame over Texas and Penn State on Wednesday. 'The 2026 class at Notre Dame really made me fall in love with the place,' O'Brien said during his announcement. 'Coach Freeman is the best. I trust coach Marcus Freeman with my life, really. He's the kind of guy I want to go to battle with.' The 6-foot-3, 185-pound O'Brien could join defensive end Rodney Dunham as five-star prospects as evaluated by 247Sports in Notre Dame's class. The Irish signed just one five-star prospect, according to 247Sports, under Freeman during the past three classes in legacy defensive end Bryce Young. In the past 10 recruiting cycles, the Irish have signed just four five-star prospects total in Young, safety Kyle Hamilton, tight end Michael Mayer and offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer. Publicly, Freeman has downplayed the notion that the loss to Ohio State was instructive about the talent upgrades needed in South Bend to keep knocking at the national championship door. Privately, the Irish push to weaponize last year's success to close the gap with the Buckeyes suggests otherwise. 'I'm always trying to get better, man. We want to be bigger, we want to be faster, we want to be stronger. I know that's a general statement, but I don't look at a team and say we need that,' Freeman said last month. 'We're always trying to find ways to get better, to get the best players in the country that fit this place, that fit Notre Dame to choose Notre Dame. And that's what we're going to do no matter if we won a national championship or we didn't. 'How do we continuously find ways to get better?' With 19 commitments, Notre Dame continues to prioritize the lines of scrimmage, which has been a Freeman staple since he took over as head coach. However, the Irish have also struck at the skill positions and may add at least six more commitments in the coming month based on early returns from their official visits. Advertisement Three-star tight end Preston Fryzel (Toledo, Ohio) is set to announce on June 23, with Notre Dame the presumed leader over Iowa and Miami. Notre Dame could land receivers on back-to-back days in early July when four-star Kaydon Finley (Aledo, Texas) and Devin Fitzgerald (Phoenix, Ariz.) announce on July 4 and July 5. Both took official visits to Notre Dame last weekend. Texas is Notre Dame's main competition for Finley, whose father Jermichael Finley played for the Longhorns before a six-year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. Fitzgerald is the son of future Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and plays for the same Brophy Prep program that produced Benjamin Morrison and freshman defensive back Cree Thomas. The Irish are in the running to land three-star safety Nick Reddish (Charlotte, N.C.), who is scheduled to announce his commitment on July 11, and are battling Virginia Tech, where he has two older brothers on the roster. Notre Dame is also in the mix for four-star receiver Brayden Robinson (Red Oak, Texas), who is slated to announce on July 20. He is taking his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend, with Miami and Arizona the other main contenders. Notre Dame's other remaining targets include four-star defensive end Elijah Golden (Sarasota, Fla.), four-star tight end Ian Premer (Great Bend, Kans.) and four-star tight end Evan Jacobson (Waukee, Iowa). Premer and Jacobson have already taken official visits to Notre Dame, with Golden on campus this weekend. Golden also took official visits to Alabama and Oklahoma. Premer is likely down to Kansas State or Notre Dame, with a decision imminent. Jacobson will likely choose between Notre Dame and Texas A&M, with his recruitment expected to wind down shortly. If Notre Dame sweeps its remaining targets, or at least comes close, it would give the Irish their highest-rated recruiting class since 2013. when they finished fifth nationally. That class included Jaylon Smith, Mike McGlinchey and Will Fuller.

Oklahoma Sooners land commitment from 2026-4-Star QB Bowe Bentley

The Oklahoma Sooners and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle landed their guy at the quarterback position on Friday evening. The Sooners earned a commitment from four-star prospect and one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class, Bowe Bentley. Bentley chose the Oklahoma Sooners over an offer from the LSU Tigers. He also held offers from prominent programs like Georgia and Ohio State. The Sooners offered Bentley in January after a standout performance at the Navy All-American Bowl, a showing that saw his recruitment take off. The Celina, Texas product combined for 63 total touchdowns in 2024, helping lead his high school team to a 16-0 record and a state championship. He's considered the No. 5 quarterback in the class and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Texas by On3 recruiting. Bentley is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the '26 class, going from a virtual unknown to where he is now in short order. Arbuckle has pursued him heavily since landing the Oklahoma offensive coordinator job. Bentley's pledge to OU wraps up a saga at QB that has stretched on for months. Bentley now slots in as one of the faces of the future in Norman, Oklahoma. He has the potential to add to the great quarterback lineage at OU. He'll now get to follow up his official visit host, John Mateer, and likely Michael Hawkins Jr. under center for Oklahoma.
