The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Delhi, Chandigarh and parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir in the next two days, i.e. by June 24, adding that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoons. Furthermore, the weather department stated that the southwest monsoon has advanced over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab.
According to the weather department, 'The southwest monsoon has advanced further over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab.'
'Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon over remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, some more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu during next 2 days,' reads the press release.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan and Goa regions during June 22 to 26. In the forecast, there is isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat on June 22 and Madhya Pradesh on June 23-24. Meanwhile, in Northeast India, there is expected to be heavy to very heavy showers over the next 3 days, and isolated heavy rain for the next four days after that.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall activity across East and Central India in the coming days. Extremely heavy rainfall (exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours) is likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh on June 23 and 24, while heavy to very heavy showers are expected to continue across Madhya Pradesh from June 22 to 26. Other regions will also see significant rainfall: Andaman & Nicobar Islands on June 22; Gangetic West Bengal from June 22 to 24 and again with very heavy rain on June 25; Bihar and Jharkhand from June 22 to 25, with Bihar likely to receive very heavy rainfall on June 23. Vidarbha is expected to witness heavy rainfall on June 25 and 26, while Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, and Odisha are forecast to receive isolated heavy rainfall on June 22 and again during June 24 to 27. Additionally, very heavy rainfall is expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on June 22 and 23, and over Odisha on June 25 and 26.

Across Delhi-NCR, maximum temperatures ranged from 33.6 degrees celsius to 36 degrees celsius, all markedly below seasonal norms by 2–6 degrees celsius. However, humidity levels remained high, with a peak of 83%, keeping the discomfort index elevated. The IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies with the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning every day through June 28. Winds are expected to remain steady at 10–20 kmph, shifting from southeasterly to westerly directions midweek. No heatwave conditions are predicted during this period, offering some relief after a hot and humid start to June. However, the approaching monsoon system and a low-pressure area over southern Uttar Pradesh are likely to drive erratic weather spells in the coming days.

If it arrives in Delhi by June 24, it would be the city's earliest monsoon onset since 2013, when the rains arrived on June 16. The IMD also reported that the monsoon has already advanced further, covering the entire Ladakh region and most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Punjab. Conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to progress into additional areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and the remaining parts of western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir over the coming days.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow alert for the national capital, warning of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in the city. The rain is likely to bring some respite from the muggy conditions in Delhi, which recorded a minimum temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius and 74 per cent humidity at 8.30 am. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 36 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph during the evening and night hours. Issuing the yellow alert for the capital, it advised residents to remain cautious, especially during outdoor activities. Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 96, in the 'satisfactory' category, at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
