PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh relief for MP road accident victim families
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the Madhya Pradesh road accident victim families and Rs 50, 000 for the injured.
'An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,' PMO India wrote on X.
The Prime Minister also expressed grief over the accident. 'Saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,' said PM Modi.
At least 11 people were killed in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district after a van carrying devotees plunged into an open well on Sunday near Budha-Takarwat crossing by Kachariya Chowpati village under the Narayangarh police station.
Four others, including two young children, sustained severe injuries in the incident.
Police said that the vehicle lost control after hitting a bike, ultimately tumbling into a 15-foot-deep well.
Manohar Singh, an area resident who attempted to rescue the occupants, tragically succumbed to toxic gas emissions from the LPG-powered van, said the police.
Anil Raghuvanshi, Narayangarh police station in-charge, told IANS: 'So far, 11 persons have been confirmed dead in the accident, including rescuer Manohar Singh and biker Gobar Singh, who was struck by the moving van. Search is still going on.'
Manohar Singh was a resident of Sanjit village, while Gobar Singh was a resident of Sitamau in the district.
Police sources said, reliance on earthmoving machinery and cranes, following the rescuer's death, left many passengers suffocated inside the van.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, who arrived at the accident site, posted on his X account: 'On receiving information about the heart-breaking incident of a four-wheeler falling into a well in village Kachariya Chowpati of Malhargarh assembly constituency of Mandsaur district, I immediately visited the spot and inspected it and directed the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to expedite the rescue operation.'

Ahead of polls, Nitish Kumar hikes social security pension in Bihar to ₹1100
PATNA: The Bihar government led by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced an increase in the monthly pension for elderly, disabled persons, and widowed women from ₹ 400 to ₹ 1,100. The decision, which will take effect from July, would impact 1,09,69,255 beneficiaries under the state's Social Security Pension Scheme. The decision has been seen as a move to further strengthen the NDA's women vote bank ahead of assembly polls due in October-November. All the beneficiaries will get pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all the beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries a lot,' Kumar announced on X. 'The elderly are a precious part of society and ensuring their dignified living is our top priority. The state government will continue to make efforts in this direction,' he added. The announcement comes in the backdrop of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav announcing that ₹ 2,500 will be deposited in the accounts of women under Mai-Bahin Samman Yojna, if his party forms the government in the state, and Beti (Benefit Education Training Income) Samman Yojana for girls' education. The Congress has also announced a MAi Behan Man Yojana. The Janata Dal (United) and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are seeking to consolidate their position against an opposition front led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be held in October and November this year, and the NDA, which consists of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will be once again looking forward to returning to power while the INDIA Bloc will be giving a competition to the incumbent Nitish Kumar government. Women form the core voters for Nitish Kumar in particular and the NDA in general. Kumar's three main initiatives, the improved law and order, especially related to women security; the 'Jeevika' poverty alleviation programme started by Nitish; and the 50 per cent quota for women in panchayat and municipal bodies, have helped in a long way in retaining their faith over the years. Earlier on June 12, chief minister Kumar had increased the limit of giving administrative approval of schemes in MNREGA for the head of the Gram Panchayats from the existing ₹ 5 lakh to ₹ 10 lakh. The government also announced increasing the monthly allowance of representatives of all levels of Panchayati Raj institutions by one and a half times. Mukhiyas and Sarpanchs in Bihar would now be getting ₹ 7,500 per month as against ₹ 5,000 earlier, whereas Ward members and Panchs would be getting ₹ 1,200 per month as against ₹ 800 per month earlier. The remuneration was earlier hiked last year (2024) from ₹ 2,500 per month to ₹ 5,000 per month for mukhiyas and sarpanchs. Similarly, the salaries of Ward members and panch were raised from ₹ 500 to ₹ 800. The proposal would now go to cabinet for clearance. There are 8,062 panchayats in Bihar. Kumar had earlier said that the Panchayat representatives were given an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 5 lakh in case of accidental death. Now an order is being given to give an ex-gratia grant of Rs. 5 lakh even in case of normal death of Panchayat representatives during their tenure. Also, if Panchayat representatives are suffering from illness, then an order is being given to provide them health facilities from the Chief Minister's Medical Assistance Fund. Kumar said that the government has set the target that Panchayat government buildings should be completed in all the Gram Panchayats of the state before the elections to be held this year. For this, the state government has also approved the remaining 1,069 new Panchayat government buildings. In another important announcement, the CM said that the District Officer will take action to execute the application for arms license of Panchayat representatives as per rules within the prescribed time limit and to speed up the use of the amount of 15th Finance Commission and State Finance Commission received by the three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions, schemes up to Rs. 15 lakh can be implemented departmentally.

Food Safety Raid In Noida, Gautam Budh Nagar: Expired, Low-Quality Food Found In Establishments
In a recent turn of events, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration launched a strict food‑safety crackdown. Violations were spotted in Dadri, Khurja, Surajpur, Rabupura, and several Noida sectors—including 16, 18, 58, and 130. This led the administration to impose a fine of Rs 64.6 lakhs. Inspectors carried out a surprise investigation in both rural and urban areas, leading to the findings. Restaurants, sweet shops, and eateries were all part of the sweep. The action follows similar drives before festivals like Holi and Navratri. Food business had to face penalties under the Food Safety and Standards Act between the time frame of two months, April and May. Some of the common violations that were spotted included selling expired or low-quality food items, misbranding and deceptive labels. Some of the offenders were found selling biscuits, packaged products and below-standard dairy items that already surpassed the expiry dates. A few of the operators even violated mandatory safety protocols. Taking note of the situation, officials have now emphasised strict action against the businesses to uphold consumer protection. According to Sarvesh Mishra, Gautam Budh Nagar's second assistant commissioner of food, revealed that his team ensures that food products meet the quality and food standards. In a statement, he said, 'Our team regularly conducts inspections and sampling to ensure that food products sold in the district meet safety and quality standards. In these cases, after detailed investigation and laboratory analysis, legal proceedings were initiated as per the Food Safety and Standards Act. The court, after hearing the matters, has imposed penalties accordingly,' as quoted by Hindustan Times. In April, four food businesses were fined a total of Rs 90,000 under the Food Safety and Standards Act. In the following month, some individual vendors and firms faced a penalty amounting to Rs 63.7 lakhs combined. A packaged food organisation, located in Noida Sector 58, faced the harshest blow. They were imposed a fine of Rs 14 lakhs for misbranding butter‑cream rolls. Mangalesh Dubey, the Additional District Magistrate and the adjudicating officer tasked under the Food Safety Act, issued the penalty.

However, the government stated that it had taken a policy decision not to frame such regulations, leading the court to deny relief to the aggregators. The bench issued notices to the state government and other respondents, setting the next hearing for June 24.
