Egypt national team arrive in Cape Verde ahead of AFCON qualifier - National Teams
The Egyptian national football team arrived in Cape Verde on Thursday, concluding a 10-hour journey ahead of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match on Friday evening.
The Pharaohs, led by coach Hossam Hassan and assured of a place in the upcoming AFCON finals, will take on Cape Verde in the fifth round of qualifiers.
Egypt clinched qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament, which will take place in Morocco, after an impressive showing in the earlier rounds. They earned maximum points in their first four matches.
However, key players Omar Marmoush, Mahmoud 'Trezeguet' Hassan, and Marwan Attia will not participate, as the coaching staff opted to rest them.
Both Trezeguet, who currently plays for Qatar's Al-Rayyan, and Ahly's Attia serve suspensions after receiving second yellow cards in the qualifiers. Coach Hassan also granted Marmoush, who represents Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt, a rest.
Friday's match will be held on an artificial turf pitch, marking the team's penultimate qualifier.
The Pharaohs will then conclude their AFCON qualifying campaign on Tuesday against Botswana in the final round.

Inter Milan strike late to beat Urawa Reds at Club World Cup
Ryoma Watanabe got an early opening goal for Urawa Reds, who were backed by a noisy contingent of their supporters at Lumen Field in Seattle. But captain Lautaro Martinez had got Inter's equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Monterrey of Mexico in their first match at the tournament, and he repeated the trick to level matters here with 12 minutes to go. Carboni, the 20-year-old Argentine who had not made an appearance for Inter in more than two years, then appeared in the 92nd minute to give the Italians the victory. The result leaves Cristian Chivu's team in a good position to now go and qualify for the last 16, while a second defeat in as many matches means Urawa Reds are eliminated. Winners of the Asian Champions League in 2023, Urawa Reds were aiming to bounce back from a 3-1 loss against River Plate in their opening game and they went in front in the 11th minute. Takuro Kaneko made the goal with a good run down the right before his low cross was swept home first-time by Watanabe. Martinez hit the crossbar from a header for Inter soon after, and it looked as if the UEFA Champions League runners-up might slip to a shock defeat when Henrikh Mkhitaryan missed the target from a good position in the second half. Serbian PM visits Egypt's key archaeological and religious sites - Ancient Egypt
During his official visit to Egypt, Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Matsut toured several of the country's prominent archaeological and religious landmarks, accompanied by a delegation that included Serbian ministers and members of parliament. Matsut visited the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), the Giza Pyramids, and Saint Catherine's Monastery in South Sinai. At the GEM, he toured architectural features such as the Atrium and Grand Staircase and viewed artefacts representing ancient Egyptian civilization. The visit to the NMEC included the main hall, the royal mummies gallery, and the Egyptian textiles exhibition. The delegation continued to the Giza Plateau, where Matsut entered the Great Pyramid and explored the site, learning about the pyramids and Sphinx's architectural and cultural significance. The tour also included Saint Catherine's Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest continuously operating Christian monasteries. The Prime Minister visited the Church of the Transfiguration, the Fatimid-era mosque, and the monastery's library, which houses rare manuscripts, including Serbian texts linked to Saint Sava, an essential figure in Serbian history, highlighting the historical connections between Egypt and Serbia.
