Senior Hamas leaders depart Cairo following ceasefire talks as Trump says ‘We've got to be good to Gaza'

A senior Hamas delegation departed Cairo late Saturday following talks with Egyptian officials aimed at brokering a ceasefire agreement and the entry of desperately needed humanitarian aid into Gaza, according to a statement by Hamas.
The delegation, led by Chairman of the Hamas Leadership Council Muhammad Darwish, included other key leaders, among them Khaled Meshaal, Khalil al-Hayya, Zaher Jabarin, and Eng. Nizar Awadallah.
'The delegation reviewed the movement's vision for reaching a comprehensive deal that achieves a ceasefire, prisoner exchange, relief, and reconstruction. It was agreed to exert further efforts and continue communication to ensure the success of these efforts,' Hamas said in the written statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, the talks also addressed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and 'the need for urgent action to deliver aid and supplies to the Strip's citizens.'
Israel imposed a complete humanitarian blockade on Gaza on March 2, stopping food, medicine, and more from entering the besieged enclave.
An Egyptian official told CNN that the Israel has been invited to meet with negotiators on Monday. It's unclear if Israel has accepted the invitation.
CNN has reached out to Hamas for comment on the details of Hamas' proposal for a ceasefire.
An Israeli source familiar with the matter told CNN that Israel has not received a new offer from the mediators for now.
'Israel only reacts to offers passed on by the mediators,' the source said.
The head of Mossad, David Barnea, was in Doha, Qatar, earlier this week, for ceasefire talks. So far, there has been no clear indication of a significant breakthrough.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump said he had told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 'We've got to be good to Gaza.' Taking questions on the way to Italy, Trump said, 'there's a very big need for medicine, food and medicine. We're taking care of it.'
The president, whose administration has unapologetically backed Israel, offered no details about what steps the US was taking to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
'The coming days are going to be critical,' said Jonathan Whitall on Saturday from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Gaza. 'Today, people are not surviving in Gaza. Those that aren't being killed by bombs and bullets are slowly dying.' One day earlier, the World Food Programme said it had run out food stocks in Gaza.
Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have made clear that the humanitarian blockade is part of a pressure campaign against Hamas, along with Israel's increased bombardment of Gaza in order to destroy Hamas and bring back the remaining 59 Israeli hostages.
Earlier this month, Israel put forward a ceasefire proposal that called for a disarmament of Gaza without guaranteeing an end to the war, which violates two of Hamas' red lines.
Since Israeli resumed its war in Gaza on March 18, more than 2,111 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

World Refugee Day: UN hails Egypt's refugee hosting experience as example to follow
During a meeting with the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) on Friday, Hamdan hailed Egypt's efforts, at the institutional and grassroots levels, in support of refugees, describing Egypt's experience in this regard as an example to follow. There are no official camps for refugees, who are integrated into the Egyptian society, which continues to welcome them with open arms, Hamdan pointed out. She noted that the UNHCR is working closely with various ministries, as well as educational and health institutions in Egypt, to provide joint support, which reflects positively on both refugees and the host community. Hamdan said that the UNHCR's visit to Egypt, set for June 24, comes at a crucial time to launch a response plan that deals with the fallout from the Sudanese and Syrian crises while meeting the needs of other refugees in Egypt and supporting host communities in Egypt. She highlighted the burdens Egypt bears to provide decent humanitarian support to these refugees. Asserting the UNHCR's keenness to highlight the suffering of refugees and asylum seekers around the world on World Refugee Day, observed on June 20, Hamdan said global funding is still not enough to provide for refugees' needs, given the mounting humanitarian crises and their complexity.

Arab FMs condemn Israeli aggression on Iran, urge de-escalation and return to diplomacy
In a statement issued following an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the Ministerial Level— held on Friday at Iraq's request and chaired by Jordan—the ministers called for an immediate end to the hostilities and urged intensified regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and reach a comprehensive ceasefire. The session took place on the sidelines of the 51st meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The Arab League called for a return to negotiations over Iran's nuclear file and expressed support for all initiatives aimed at achieving calm in the region. The ministers urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities in halting Israeli military actions, which they said violate international law and endanger regional stability. They emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue—based on international law and the UN Charter—are the only paths to resolving regional crises, stressing that military solutions are not viable. The statement asserted that a comprehensive regional de-escalation requires addressing the root causes of conflict, beginning with an immediate halt to the Israeli offensive in Gaza, the unrestricted and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid via UN agencies, and an end to illegal Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, which they said undermine the two-state solution and prospects for a just and lasting peace. They stressed the necessity of adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, particularly the prohibition on the use or threat of the use of force in international relations. They called for the peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, rejecting any attempt to undermine their stability. The statement also condemned any violations of the airspace of states in the region and underlined the need to avoid targeting nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. Such actions, they said, violate international law and pose grave risks of nuclear contamination and environmental and humanitarian disaster. Finally, the ministers reiterated the call for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, in line with international resolutions and decisions by past Arab League summits, including the 34th summit held in Baghdad in May 2025. They urged all regional countries to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
