37 Things With ~Luxury~ Vibes Yet Shockingly Low Price Tags
1. A set of oh-so-cooling Mellanni sheets that feel so soft, you'll wish you could wear them as clothes. They're significantly more affordable than brands like Peachskins or Cozy Earth, but still get rave reviews for their high quality. And when the temps rise — whether it's outside or your AC's playing games — reviewers say these sheets help turn sweaty nights into a cool side of the pillow oasis.
Promising review: "My favorite sheets have to be Cozy Earth. But they are way too pricey for a guest bed. These sheets are just as good without the huge price tag. Side by side comparison to these vs expensive brands like Cozy Earth or Peacock Alley — these sheets are thinner and deeper, which actually fit better on our deep mattress with a three-inch topper, and these sheets are just as cool feeling as the higher-end ones when you get in bed. They wash well. Actually better than [the] Peacock Alley brand. They hardly wrinkle. And even after months of use, they are still in great shape. They haven't started to peel yet or fray. No loose threads or tears. Great sheets!" — Susan
Promising review: "I read from other reviews these sheets were soft, so I wasn't too surprised when I received them, and man, are they soft and so comfortable. We have Egyptian cotton sheets that were expensive, and I promise we have changed them back out for the comfort of these sheets. The cotton sheets were cold, and these were just right. The other thing is my husband has thin skin, so any nick he will bleed. Well, he has bled on these white sheets and when we washed them (in cold water as instructed) the blood always comes out and never stains. I can't say enough great things about them except to say all three of my adult kids are receiving a set as part of their Christmas!" — Sheree Chrestman

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord had this to say: "I love love love this lip balm. I compare it to the $24 version from Summer Fridays, which I've been splurging on — I love that brand because it lasts so long and is so high quality, but this $4 E.l.f. version feels comparable and, more excitingly, comes in smaller versions so I can stock my totes and bathroom with them whether I'm at home or on the go. It's hydrating, lightweight, doesn't get sticky, and adds a perfect ~subtle~ gloss whether I'm using it alone or on top of a lip color. I love the vanilla flavor so much, it's got a similar vibe to the birthday cake flavor that Glossier sometimes carries."
Promising review:"I have one in my car, one in my purse, and one at home. These just feel so good on your lips! The flavors are very true to their name. They are pretty small, though, so if you use them often, they won't last long (which is another reason I have three of them), but for $4 each, it is worth it. I sometimes like using this before putting on the E.l.f. Lip Reviver Oil. Such a great base to an awesome lip oil!" — Jax

The charge on these goes for at least four hours (I haven't tried it beyond that yet), and the Bluetooth connects to my devices super easily. Excellent pair of headphones for the price point.
Promising review: "They're comfortable, hold a charge really well, and actually work really well in terms of noise cancellation. 'Half of my skull was gone': Indy shooting survivor fights to reclaim her life
A gun fell out of a purse, then everything went blank. "I woke up in the hospital two weeks later," Erica Scott told IndyStar. Scott had a rare night of freedom while her three young children visited family ahead of Christmas Eve 2023. She went out by herself, but saw people she knew along the way and spent the night dancing and socializing. Instead of opening presents with her kids on Christmas morning, she was lying comatose in a hospital bed after being shot in the head. Scott was one of 614 people who survived being shot in Indianapolis that year. She documented her recovery by sharing videos on social media of her regaining the ability to walk and talk. In her most-watched video, captioned "God Made A Way," Scott is first seen hoisted by a harness and wearing a white helmet as she wobbly steps through a wooden ladder-shaped structure on the floor. The video then jumps to her still hoisted by the harness, but without the helmet, and her steps land with purpose. Before she could take those steady steps or hug her kids again, Scott spent months recovering, starting the minute she awoke from her coma at Eskenazi Hospital on Jan. 12, 2023. "The first person I saw was my mom. She yelled my name and asked if I could hear her, but I couldn't talk," Scott said. She also couldn't move; at least not everything. She could write, though, and on a piece of paper wrote with her non-dominant left hand, asking for her children, Davion, 9, Eva, 5, and Nevaeh, 3. The kids were OK and being cared for, her mother said, but a bullet had pierced the left side of Scott's head. There was no exit wound. Scott asked for a mirror. "Half of my skull was gone," she said. "I had a panic attack after seeing myself. I couldn't understand things. My heart rate spiked, and everybody was trying to calm me down." Traumatic Brain Injury: A 6-foot-7 classroom hero Josh Speidel teaching special education 10 years after accident She was fighting to understand not only what happened but what was happening. Why couldn't she understand things or move? How was her brain so exposed? Why couldn't she talk? She was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. It would be a long road to recovery, and doctors said the next steps were different therapies with a referral to the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana. Sheryl Katta-Charles who is the traumatic brain injury medical director at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, said 12% of people with traumatic brain injuries have them from getting shot, and 90% of the time, they are fatal. For the people who do survive, cognitive function can be affected. "Many times, people go into a coma with a severe traumatic injury like this, requiring medical support," Katta-Charles, told IndyStar. "So, they're in ICU as they become more stabilized." When Scott woke up from her coma, she couldn't walk; her right side was paralyzed, and she couldn't speak. A trach in her throat helped her breathe. But, defying doctors' predictions, Scott slowly spoke again, developing a speech delay. "After coma recovery, people can have what we call anterograde amnesia," Katta-Charles said. "A loss of the ability to make new memories. Sometimes, older memories right around the time of the injury can also be lost." But Scott's memories started coming back. Before everything went blank, minutes after 6:15 a.m. on Christmas Eve. Scott remembers dancing at Recovery Room Lounge, a hole-in-the-wall tavern on the city's westside, when a man began dancing with her. She noticed a woman not too far away, upset about the exchange. "I guess I was dancing with her baby daddy," Scott said. "I didn't know either one of them and tried to apologize." Scott said she tried to keep the peace and offered the woman pizza, but the woman hurled insults and followed her around the establishment. So, Scott punched her. That's when she remembers seeing a gun drop from the woman's purse. A police report lists 14 other people as witnesses, and according to court documents, many claimed they didn't see anything. Some did give their accounts of what happened and said a woman shot Scott and walked away. "Despite all of that, no arrests were made for a year and a half," Scott said. But charges would eventually come. IndyStar reached out to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and the Marion County Prosecuting Office on May 1, inquiring about Scott's case. The next day, a woman was indicted on two counts of felony aggravated battery in the case. The delay, the prosecutor's office told IndyStar, was because there were "additional investigative needs," but did not provide specifics. "Prosecutors and law enforcement have been in contact since the (shooting)," the statement said. "Ultimately, prosecutors received the most up-to-date investigation for review on April 17, 2025." Scott was on a mission to regain her strength and motor skills, so she could get back to her kids, who had to stay with family. She was eventually healthy enough to be discharged and have an in-home health aide to assist her with everyday needs. "The first time I saw her in the clinic after she got discharged to the outpatient side, she was a whole new person," said TBI expert Katta-Charles. Her videos, which would garner thousands of views at the beginning of her journey, have started to lose engagement with her progress, but since getting better, Scott's turned to a new mission as part of her recovery. Da'Wonda Mack, an Indianapolis podcaster, wanted to share Scott's story after seeing her in a Pop the Balloon Indianapolis edition video. Mack loved her confidence and vulnerability with content that's usually comedic. "I continued to hear her say, 'I was shot,'" Mack told IndyStar. "Watching videos of her perseverance was motivating. I do not doubt that through her faith and strength, she will obtain the level of normality she desires and deserves." She keeps up with news but hates to hear about gunshot victims, especially those who never woke up like her. She's always sharing posts to stop the violence. Still, she's angry about what happened to her. This prompted her to want to make a difference, being directly affected by violence. She's worked with Smart Family Development, Inc., an organization that helps families cope with trauma to help better process what happened to her, and she's fueling that passion to help raise awareness against gun violence. She's collaborating with them to do just that for an event at Watkins Park later on this month featuring panel discussions. While still going to therapy, she pushes through each session to reach her physical goals, but even with small victories, some days are overwhelming. "I want to walk again. I want my balance back. I want my life back," Scott said. "More than anything, I want my kids. I mean, like really want and have my children with me. I want to be an active mom again."

Asking Eric: In-law's handmade gift caused years-long rift
Dear Eric: My sister-in-law made quilts for two of her nieces. They unwrapped them to oohs, aahs and applause on Christmas Eve at my house. My daughter did not receive a gift. I sent a polite email to sister-in-law explaining that my daughter was disappointed. I received a snail mail reply that included a gift certificate and a note. Sister-in-law wrote that I was a bully and stated that she would never set foot in my house again. She hasn't for several years. What should I do?

Will an egg cooker change your life? Amazon reviewers swear by this $29 'seriously' life-changing gadget
If you're looking for ways to make your morning routine easier, you might want to check out the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker from Amazon Canada. This egg-cellent gadget, which boasts nearly 90,000 five-star reviews, promises to simplify the task of making breakfast or lunch, whether you like your eggs soft-boiled, hard-boiled, poached, scrambled or in omelette form. Plus, it's shockingly tiny, so you won't have to worry about losing precious counter or shelf space. This handy kitchen gadget makes perfectly cooked eggs every time with "little to no effort." Designed to save time and take the guesswork out of making eggs, this electric tool boils, poaches and scrambles. It can even make small omelettes. Simply choose from the three included trays: boiling (for up to six eggs), poaching (for up to two eggs) or omelette. Then add your eggs and the correct amount of water with the included measuring cup, close the contraption and set the timer based on the firmness you want. The power light will illuminate when your eggs are cooking, and thanks to the clear lid, you can watch it all happen. When the eggs are ready to eat, a musical chime will play and the machine will automatically shut off to prevent overcooking. Weighing in at just one pound, the cooker is astonishingly small: just 19.1 centimetres tall, 19.1 centimetres wide and 15.2 centimetres high (7.5 x 7.5 x 6 inches). ⭐️ 4.5/5 stars 💬 123,000+ reviews 🔎 'One of my favourite kitchen gadgets." It "sounds silly to say an egg cooker changed my life," says one reviewer, "but seriously." This handy little device really does make egg prep so much easier. Shoppers love that they can "set it and walk away" rather than keep an eye on a boiling pot. When the eggs are ready, a "cute bell noise" sounds and it's "loud enough to hear from another room." The hard-boiled egg setting seems to be the favourite and is just about foolproof. For other types of eggs, it may take a bit more finessing. The gadget only cooks "one small omelette at a time," for example, and it's not especially quick. One perk is that the machine is delightfully compact. You'll "be shocked at how small it is," says one shopper. There's even "less cleanup" than traditional cooking methods. Several customers note that boiled eggs are "much easier to peel" than if they'd been cooked in a pot. But one reviewer says that you shouldn't run them under cold water first because "that makes the peeling more difficult." Other reviewers note that the amount of water you choose is really important, "so pay attention" to the measuring cup markings. However, one customer says the lines are "very difficult to read" so she marked them more clearly with a red Sharpie. According to thousands of reviewers, the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker is a total game-changer. Whether you like boiled or poached eggs, this tiny device will make them to perfection and you won't need to watch over a boiling pot. It's also super easy to clean. But if boiling or poaching isn't for you and you prefer scrambled eggs and omelettes, you're probably better off sticking with a frying pan.
