The Redhill Valleys among local winners at CMAOntario Awards
Hamilton-grown musicians, a band and a radio station took home CMAOntario awards Sunday.
Three-member band the Redhill Valleys won 'Group or Duo of the Year,' Ancaster's Mackenzie Leigh Meyer won 'Roots Artist or Group of the Year,' Waterdown's Josh Ross won the 'Compass Award' and KX94.7, Hamilton's country station, won 'Radio Station of the Year.'
The win was a first for the Redhill Valleys.
'Winning Group of the Year in our hometown makes this moment extra special,' said Chelsea McWilliams, the bass player and singer.
'Hamilton has a rich, resilient music scene, and we're proud to be part of a community that keeps showing up, creating, and lifting each other up. It's a win for all the local bands out there making noise.'
The CMAOntario Awards and Festival was Sunday at several venues across Hamilton, including the Textile Building and the Music Hall.
The 13th annual awards show was the last to be hosted by Canadian country star Jason McCoy.
McCoy announced 20 winners at the show, which ended off a weekend of workshops, intimate performances and open mics.
Country singer-songwriter Owen Riegling won the most awards, taking home five trophies. Riegling is from Mildmay, Ont., a small town about 150 kilometres northwest of Hamilton, past Elmira, Ont.
The show featured performances from country singers such as Andrew Hyatt, Sacha, Nate Haller and Robyn Ottolini. The Redhill Valleys also performed.
McCoy was also honoured with the first Real McCoy Award, sponsored by Slaight Music. The award will honour an individual who represents the compassion, integrity and commitment to the craft of Ontario's country music community.
The Country Music Association of Ontario was founded in 2007.

She was invited backstage four different times," and that she "texted post-show when they were doing their fundraising pitch. Madonna had already made a generous donation." Before she was called out by "Hamilton" stars for allegedly texting through a Broadway performance, Madonna faced backlash for another phone faux pas, and this one reportedly got her banned from a movie theater. Back in 2013, the Queen of Pop made headlines after allegedly texting during a screening of "12 Years a Slave" at the New York Film Festival. According to Page Six at the time, when another guest asked her to put her phone away, Madonna snapped back, "It's for business…enslaver!" The screening featured the powerful historical drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, and Brad Pitt, a film that tells the harrowing true story of Solomon Northup, a free man sold into slavery in the 1800s. Despite her alleged outburst, sources told Us Weekly that Madonna appeared emotional during the film. "Some people are shocked by this, because Madonna was visibly tearing up," one insider said. "Everybody there thought that she was very moved by it." Hamilton fans react as key cast member ‘cut out' of Tonys performance
The original Broadway cast of Hamilton took the stage at the 78th annual Tony Awards, but with one notable absence among the solo performers. Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda was joined by principal cast members Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom, Jr., Okieriete Onaodowan, and Phillipa Soo. But Anthony Ramos, who played the dual roles of Philip Hamilton and John Laurens in the production, wasn't given a main part in the performance — and fans were quick to notice. 'Sooooo, did I just miss it or why didn't Anthony Ramos get a stand out moment??? Fairly certain that his dual role deserved it??' one fan wrote. 'They had Anthony Ramos as a stand in lol only person without a solo during the performance,' another said. 'Lowkey salty Anthony Ramos didn't get a solo but it was still amazing,' another wrote. He was seen in the audience earlier in the broadcast, but because he wasn't given a moment in the spotlight like the other principal cast members, many missed his presence completely. Ramos's name was not included in a May 29 press release announcing the performance. It's not clear when he joined the reunion lineup. The original cast reunited to celebrate the hit musical's tenth anniversary on Broadway. Hamilton received a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations in 2016 and ultimately won 11 awards, including Best Musical. Fans were thrilled with the overall performance, with many flocking to social media to share their thoughts. 'That Hamilton Medley with the ENTIRE original company just changed my life holy s***,' one fan wrote on X. 'Chills! This was incredible to watch the original cast of Hamilton perform together 10 years later!' another wrote. 'This just brought me so much joy omg just reignited my Hamilton obsession,' someone else shared. Several members of the original company appeared in other parts of the broadcast. Goldsberry, who won a Tony for her role as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, hosted the first part of the ceremony, The Tony Awards: Act One, on Pluto TV. Previous Tony winner Groff, nominated this year for his leading role in Just in Time, performed early on in the national broadcast, which began at 8 p.m. ET. Anthony Ramos claims Madonna was on her iPad ‘the whole time' during Hamilton performance
Anthony Ramos says he once caught Madonna distracted on her iPad throughout the 'whole' production of Hamilton. The Broadway star, 33, originated the lead roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning musical in 2015. On Thursday's episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Ramos was asked who the 'most terrifying celebrity [was] to spot in the audience' during his 15-month run.
