It took Ismail two years to reach the UK from Sudan, where he fled a life defined by conflict and a constant struggle to survive.
Violence erupted in the country in April 2023 when long-simmering tensions between its military and paramilitary leaders broke out.
The 37-year-old began his journey from the city of Al-Fashir, where he was born and raised.
In Independent Studio's latest series UNHEARD, Ismail shares how he risked everything on a dangerous journey to the UK in hopes of supporting his family, many of whom remain in Sudan's war-ravaged Zamzam refugee camp.

Olivia announced that she was expecting in February of this year and has been keeping fans updated with her pregnancy. Sadly, it has not been smooth sailing for the family as Olivia was expecting twins, but sadly lost one of her babies eight weeks into her pregnancy. She made the revelation on Loose Women, where she recounted their tragic experience of vanishing twin syndrome. The couple were told they were having twins just before Christmas, when they attended an early six week scan. Olivia told the panel: 'We went super early, I'm quite an anxious person anyway. When we turned up, we had our friend in the back of the car because we thought everything would be normal. 'As soon as we sat down I saw two babies and not one, I was floored by that. I have twins in my family and as soon as we found out I was already nervous as we've not had a great history of twins in our family.' The Love Island star broke down in tears as she revealed: 'One of the babies just basically didn't have a heartbeat but I'd had no symptoms, no pain, no bleeding to tell me that was what we were walking into. We were floored, we were expecting to have these two little babies.' The star had experienced vanishing twin syndrome, which occurs when one twin passes away in the womb and 'vanishes' and studies suggest happens in roughly 36% of twin pregnancies. Olivia heartbreakingly revealed that 'the one beautiful part of it' is that the babies do 'absorb back into your body' and that's what the couple have been 'holding onto'. The reality star continued: 'The baby had completely absorbed into my body at 14 weeks, just completely gone which is tremendously sad knowing they're still in there. 'I am so lucky to have experienced that moment of possibly having twins, it's something that not everyone gets to feel so even having those two little babies at that time.' Alex then emotionally chimed in with: 'I built this scenario up in my mind, I was thinking of the future. 'I thought it was 100% happening and I had come to terms with it. I never really had a big family, I'm an only child and have no contact with my dad so it was an amazing thing for me.'

Prinsloo, 37, shared the fun-filled photos on her Instagram page on Thursday, writing that they were reflecting 'A slice of heaven,' though she didn't say where they and their family and friends were visiting. The couple appeared to be reinvigorating their romance almost three years after their marriage was beset by the Maroon 5 frontman's sordid 'sexting' scandal. Levine, 46, and his family chartered a luxury yacht that appeared to be tooling around the Mediterranean. One photo showed the runway regular flaunting her long, lean legs in a navy blue one-piece bathing suit with white trim. The cover model placed a dark towel over her shoulder and wore a beige billed hat and sunglasses as folks behind her worked with a motorized dingy used to transport guests to shore. The scene of domestic bliss was a far cry from the drama of 2022, when the Levine–Prinsloo marriage was rocked after several women shared screenshots of what they said were flirty texts sent to them by the singer. One of the women even claimed to have had an affair with the Misery singer, which he denied. He did, however, apologize for the inappropriate messages, saying he 'used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner.' Earlier in the week, Prinsloo posted a sweet selfie of herself and Levine, writing 'LOML [Love of my Life]' next to it. Levine and Maroon 5 have a light summer touring schedule planned. The band is set to perform in Endicott, New York, on July 11; New York City on August 11 and September 19 in Las Vegas at the iHeart Music Festival.
