Israel slams UN rights council for giving floor to Iran ahead of nuclear talks

GENEVA: Israel's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva has raised 'vehement objection' to Iran addressing the Human Rights Council ahead of talks with European counterparts in Geneva to try to de-escalate the conflict, according to a letter seen by Reuters.
'Affording the Iranian foreign minister the floor before this body continues to undermine the council's credibility and constitutes a blatant betrayal of the many victims of this regime worldwide,' Daniel Meron said in a letter addressed to council president Jurg Lauber.
The council said on Friday said that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was due to be given the floor. Shortly afterwards, he is due to hold talks with the EU foreign policy chief and his counterparts in Britain, France and Germany in order to de-escalate the conflict.
In the letter, Meron accuses Iran of using the council as a international stage to 'promote the regime's despotic campaign.'
Iran says no nuclear talks under Israeli fire, Trump considers options
On Wednesday, the Iranian Ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva addressed the council and accused Israeli attacks as representing an act of 'war against humanity'.
Israel began attacking Iran last Friday, saying it aimed to prevent its longtime enemy from developing nuclear weapons. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes on Israel. It says its nuclear programme is peaceful.

DPM slams Israel's actions in Gaza, Iran

Photo: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza and Iran. During his address at the 51st session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul on Saturday, Dar condemned Israel's recent strikes on Iran and terming them a violation of international law and a threat to global peace. 'Israeli aggression against Iran is not an isolated event but part of a consistent pattern of militarism,' he warned. 'This meeting is taking place at a crucial time, and against the backdrop of unprecedented challenges being faced by the Muslim Ummah,' Dar said. 'From Palestine to Kashmir, Islamophobia to state-sponsored terrorism—our challenges are urgent and require unified action.' He said that the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with over 55,000 Palestinian deaths—primarily women and children—was the result of Israel's 'genocidal campaign.' Dar called for 'an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire' and full humanitarian access, while reiterating Pakistan's support for an independent Palestinian state. Pakistan, he noted, had co-sponsored a UN Security Council resolution for a Gaza ceasefire earlier this month, which was vetoed. 'Israel's aggression continues with impunity,' Dar said.

US stealth bombers head over Pacific as Trump mulls Iran strikes

WASHINGTON: US stealth bombers were flying Saturday across the Pacific Ocean, according to tracking data and media reports, fueling speculation over their intended mission as President Donald Trump considers joining Israel's attack on Iranian nuclear sites. Multiple B-2 bomber aircraft left a base in the central United States overnight and were later tracked flying off the California coast along with aerial refueling jets, The New York Times and specialist plane tracking sites reported. The B-2 is capable of carrying America's heaviest payloads, including the bunker-busting GBU-57, a 30,000-pound (13,607 kg) warhead capable of penetrating 200 feet (61 meters) underground before exploding. Iran, Israel launch new attacks after Tehran rules out nuclear talks Such a bomb, which Israel is not known to possess, is the only weapon capable of destroying Iran's deeply buried nuclear facilities. When reached for comment, the Pentagon referred AFP to the White House, which did not immediately respond. Trump, who rarely spends weekends in Washington, is due to return to the White House on Saturday evening to hold an unspecified "National Security Meeting." The president said Friday that Iran had a "maximum" of two weeks to avoid possible US air strikes, indicating he could take a decision before the fortnight deadline he had announced a day earlier.

OGRA directs oil companies to maintain 20-day reserves amid Iran-Israel conflict

Government officials and PSO have voiced concern over 'unfair competition' and the potential threat to G2G fuel supply deals. Photo: AFP Listen to article The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has directed all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to maintain fuel reserves to ensure uninterrupted supply across the country amid evolving market conditions following the Iran-Israel conflict. In a statement issued on Saturday, OGRA spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi said all OMCs have been instructed to maintain the mandatory 20-day fuel reserves as required under their licensing terms. "OGRA further emphasises that companies must fully comply with these conditions to ensure smooth fuel supply nationwide," the statement said. Ghaznavi added that Pakistan currently has sufficient petroleum reserves to meet domestic demand. "There are adequate petroleum stocks in the country to meet present consumption levels. OGRA is actively monitoring the situation and ensuring strict oversight to uphold national energy security," he said. He further noted that proactive steps are being taken to address future energy requirements and respond to shifting market dynamics. "OGRA remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted energy supply and strengthening national energy security," Ghaznavi affirmed. Iran–Israel Conflict The recent conflict between Iran and Israel has escalated into the most intense direct confrontation in their history, as both countries exchange large-scale strikes. Israel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' with a surprise attack on June 13, targeting Iranian military leadership, nuclear facilities, and ballistic missile production sites. The operation resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including top Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists.
