Chief Secretary urges Muslims to embrace Aidiladha spirit
KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has urged Muslims to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, sincerity and obedience to Allah SWT in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha 1446 Hijrah.
In a Facebook post, Shamsul Azri said Hari Raya Aidiladha is a significant Islamic celebration that commemorates the profound story of Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Prophet Ismail, symbolising complete submission to the will of God.
"Let us draw lessons from this spirit of sacrifice to strengthen noble values in our personal lives, our communities and our organisations.
"To those performing the sacrificial rites, may your deeds be accepted by Allah SWT and become a means for us to attain His forgiveness and blessings," he said.
Shamsul Azri also extended Hari Raya Aidiladha greetings to all Muslims and prayed that the celebration brings blessings, unity and well-being to everyone. — BERNAMA

CAP Calls For Food Waste Law
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) has urged the government to introduce a comprehensive Food Waste Act to tackle the alarming rate of food wastage in Malaysia, while also encouraging Malaysians to grow their own vegetables and herbs to cope with rising food prices. CAP education officer N.V. Subbarow said such a law would enable Malaysia to address environmental, social and economic challenges related to food waste, while supporting its commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "Malaysia throws away about 17,000 tonnes of food every day, and more than 3,000 tonnes of it are still edible. That's why we need a dedicated law to reduce this wastage and encourage sustainable habits,' he told Bernama when met after appearing as a guest on BERNAMA TV's pre-recorded Tamil talk show 'Paarvai' at Wisma Bernama here last Friday. Subbarow said most Malaysians do not realise the scale of the issue, adding: "We live in a country blessed with delicious food, but unfortunately, we often discard edible items without thinking, and this contributes significantly to national food waste." "The only way to change this societal habit is through an effective law that encourages responsible consumption and educates the public," he said. He pointed out that France passed a pioneering law in 2016 which bans supermarkets from throwing away unsold edible food, requiring them instead to donate it to charities. 'Malaysia can learn from such examples,' he added. Subbarow also welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent directive for government departments to stop using imported goods, particularly food, at official events, saying it was a timely move that complements efforts to reduce waste and support local producers. "We fully support the Prime Minister's call. Prioritising local produce empowers farmers and reduces the environmental cost of long-haul food transport," he said.

ALOR SETAR, June 22 (Bernama) -- Chief of the Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaafar headed the list of recipients of state honours in conjunction with the 83rd birthday of the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah Aman, today. Mohd Nizam was conferred the Darjah Datuk Seri Setia Pahlawan Yang Amat Dihormati (SSPK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Pahlawan', at an investiture ceremony held at Istana Anak Bukit here. The Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff; the Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah; and the Tunku Mahkota of Kedah, Tunku Shazuddin Ariff, also graced the ceremony. Also present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, state secretary Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali and members of the State Executive Council. UMDAP a figment of opposition's imagination, says UMNO's Asyraf
UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has dismissed the opposition's claims of a so-called 'marriage' between UMNO and DAP as baseless propaganda, rejecting the term 'UMDAP' as a fabricated narrative. Asyraf emphasised that UMNO has never been subservient to DAP, asserting that the party remains independent within the Unity Government's 18-party coalition. He noted that the 'UMDAP' label is losing traction, with the public increasingly recognizing it as an opposition tactic to undermine the coalition's unity. 'People no longer talk about UMDAP. They see it as mere opposition propaganda. UMNO is part of an 18-party coalition forming the Unity Government. Why single out DAP when we work with 16 other parties?' he said on the Borak Harini podcast, titled Adakah Lagi UMNO Selepas PRU16? Asyraf explained that the 'UMDAP' narrative gained fleeting relevance during the early stages of the coalition's formation, particularly during the State Elections (PRN), when time constraints limited UMNO's ability to counter the claims. 'Since then, we've secured victories in successive elections, exposing UMDAP as a hollow campaign strategy employed by the opposition,' he added. He further clarified that the term UMDAP holds no legitimacy or positive connotation. 'UMDAP simply doesn't exist. It's not a label that reflects reality or carries any positive meaning,' Asyraf stated. Reaffirming UMNO's distinct identity, he said, UMNO has not merged with DAP, nor has it raised DAP's flag, prayed outside DAP's office, or endorsed DAP's causes.
