The Script's Danny O'Donoghue says Sabrina Carpenter helped him reconnect with music after the death of Mark Sheehan
Danny O'Donoghue has said that listening to Sabrina Carpenter has helped him reconnect with music following the death of his close friend and The Script co-founder Mark Sheehan.
Speaking to Stuart Clark in the current issue of Hot Press, O'Donoghue explained how his relationship with music changed in the aftermath of Sheehan's passing. 'Yeah, I've been reconnecting myself with music,' The Script frontman said.
'After Mark passed, it wasn't really touching me in the same way. I was like, 'This is f***ing weird. Every time I think of an act I want to listen to, I turn it off two songs in.''
He recalled how a friend suggested a new approach: 'A friend of mine suggested, 'Why don't you check out acts you've never listened to before? Go with my suggestion; Sabrina Carpenter.' I was like, 'Arrrgh, no, it's just a pop thing.''
However, O'Donoghue gave it a chance. 'I go for an hour-long walk every morning and night, so I stuck Short n' Sweet on and, bro, three songs in, I was a Sabrina Carpenter fan!'
He added that his passion for music has returned. 'I'm back in love with music now the way I used to be,' he said.
O'Donoghue also noted another recent musical discovery. 'I took Kendrick Lamar out for a walk as well and went, 'Jesus Christ, I don't know what this is – rap jazz or something – but it's so fucking cool!''
The Script is set to perform at Thomond Park, Limerick on 12 July, with special guests James Bay and Allie Sherlock.

LISTEN: Christy Moore releases new track for Michael D. Higgins
Christy Moore has released 'Music to Our Ears', a spoken word tribute to President Michael D. Higgins. The track, written by poet Johnny Broderick and produced by Gavin Murphy, celebrates President Higgins' life and legacy as he enters the last months of his second and final term in office. The tribute will also feature on the extended edition of Moore's No.1 album A Terrible Beauty , set for release later this year. Speaking on the project, Christy said: 'I think it is a beautiful tribute to our esteemed President and His Family. I think Johnny B's words express what many of us feel about Michael D. and, Our First Lady, Sabina.' The tribute is the latest show of respect and admiration between Christy Moore and President Higgins. In a heartfelt message celebrating Moore's 80th birthday earlier this year, President Higgins praised the singer's decades of service to music and culture. 'Through your music, you have lent voice to those often unheard, bringing to the public discourse the concerns, hopes, and struggles of ordinary people with extraordinary empathy and dignity,' he said. He also described Moore's voice as 'one of the most distinctive and enduring in Irish life,' commending his 'profound sense of justice' and his grounding in 'the values of community, equality and solidarity.' Reflecting on a visit to Aras an Uachtarain, Moore once wrote: 'Encounters with Michael D. over many decades have always been memorable. Meeting him again as the elected President of Ireland was a particular pleasure. There was a feeling of having a true 'man of the people' in Aras an Uachtarain.' President Michael D. Higgins, a former Hot Press columnist from 1983 to 1993, will step down from his role later this year after serving the maximum of 14 years in office. 'Their answer can tell you a lot — like if they're self-aware, whether they stick it out when things get rough, and how well they keep their cool (or not)," Marisa explained. Another indicator if a potential lover is a Man Child or not is if they did the work on themselves by going to therapy and learning skills to regulate their emotions. 'You'll get a sense of what they need, how they handle things, and maybe even how they deal with stress or think about mental health ,' the expert explained. This way, the pro explained, you can hear about their big wins and how they "handled any curveballs along the way." Love Island fans call Islander a 'red flag' as he makes shock dating admission It's pretty normal to talk about past relationships when getting to know someone you might be romantically interested in, but avoiding basic questions is the key to really getting to know someone. Instead of asking when their last relationship was, for example, the dating pro suggested asking what they learned from it. 'Basically, you're seeing if they've taken time to reflect, process the ups and downs, and figure out how to do better next time,' the expert said. According to "If asked to help with chores, an immature person might respond petulantly. "They might need to be bribed or demand compensation for performing tasks that are simply a routine part of keeping a home and functioning as a responsible adult." Not only that, put their partner might need to remind them to shower, brush their teeth and perform basic hygiene tasks. If a man is acting like Peter Pan, you could easily fall into the trap of being his Wendy, meaning you could end up unconsciously encouraging his behaviour by acting like his mum. You might even enjoy being able to comfort and look after him in the early days of the relationship, the pros noted. "Initially, you might have felt attracted to and enjoyed these aspects of your partner's personality. "As your relationship progressed (perhaps even to marriage), however, you might have become exhausted by, or even resentful of, your partner's immature behaviour." 15 Relationship red flags to look out for Red flags are warning signs that indicate unhealthy or manipulative behaviour.
