Sultan Nazrin visits injured FRU policemen at Teluk Intan Hospital
TELUK INTAN: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, today visited five FRU policemen who are receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital.
Sultan Nazrin, was accompanied by State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, Perak Health Department director Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha, and Dewan Negara Perak member Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini.
Of the five policemen, four are currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.
They are Corporal Haslizal Mohd Ali, 44; Sergeant Mazlan Mat, 40; Corporal Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39; and Sergeant Mohd Parih Ali, 44.
Sultan Nazrin also visited Corporal Mohammad Zulnaidi Muhammad Zulkifli, 34, who is currently in a regular ward.
After meeting the injured policemen, Sultan Nazrin also met with the families of the victims and handed over his personal donation to them.
Sultan Nazrin was seen conversing with the victims' families before ending his 40-minute visit.
It was reported on Tuesday that an FRU truck carrying 18 personnel from Unit 5 Sungai Senam collided with a rock-laden lorry at about 8.50am.
Eight officers died at the scene, and a ninth passed away while receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital. Nine others were injured.
The FRU vehicle was returning to Ipoh after completing duties for the Chitrapournami festival when it was struck by the lorry.

It demonstrated the use of water cannons by FRU units to disperse rioters, followed by military personnel stepping in and firing warning shots to regain control. A tight security formation was then activated to restore order. Several ASEAN meetings are scheduled to take place in Port Dickson this September, including the Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) for ASEAN Plus Three (APT), the East Asia Summit (EAS), the 15th ASEAN Maritime Forum, and the 13th Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum. The drill served to assess the effectiveness of tactics, techniques and procedures in handling unrest, in line with National Security Council (NSC) guidelines. It also provided a practical platform to test real-world responses.
