INDYCAR Power Rankings: Who has Indy 500 hangover and who is just over it
The Indianapolis 500 — the biggest race of the INDYCAR season — was also the first oval race of the year.
But did it give much insight into which drivers will perform best on ovals? Probably not.
The 2.5-mile rectangular asphalt oval is nothing like any of the other ovals. The others are Nashville (1.33-mile concrete), WWTR Gateway (1.25-mile asphalt), Milwaukee (one-mile asphalt) and Iowa (0.875-mile asphalt).
So keeping that in mind, the influence of the Indy 500 on the power rankings is a little debatable. In trying to weigh all the factors, here's the list:
Dropped out: Rinus VeeKay (Last Week: 9)
On the verge: David Malukas, Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi
10. Colton Herta (LW: 10)
Herta showed speed at Indy, but then a crash in qualifying on Saturday put him behind. Herta finished 17th after a speeding penalty and then overshooting his pit. It was certainly a disappointing result when he had the speed.
9. Marcus Ericsson (LW: Not Ranked)
Ericsson, it could be argued, should have won the Indy 500, as Alex Palou passed Ericsson when lapped traffic hindered his pace. It was still a great drive by Ericsson after finishes of 20th or worse in three of the previous four races.
8. Scott Dixon (LW: 7)
Dixon finished 23rd at Indianapolis, three laps down after his left rear brake overheated on the warmup laps of the race. Up until then, he had a relatively solid month.
7. Will Power (LW: 4)
Power finished as the best Team Penske car in the 500. Unfortunately for Power, it was a 19th-place finish and one lap down. A 20-second pit stop where Power overshot his pit stall and ran over the front air hose ruined his day.
6. Scott McLaughlin (LW: 2)
McLaughlin probably still can't figure out what happened as he wrecked on the pace laps of the race, ending his day before it could even begin.
5. Felix Rosenqvist (LW: 8)
Rosenqvist earned a solid fifth-place finish, completing a solid month at Indy where he also started fifth. The Meyer Shank Racing driver has five top 10s in the six races this year.
4. Christian Lundgaard (LW: 5)
Lundgaard finished a quiet ninth at Indy, where he started eighth. This was another relatively good day, especially considering he didn't have the strongest car.
3. Kyle Kirkwood (LW: 6)
Kirkwood had confidence in his car the entire month of May but just missed it in qualifying, starting 23rd. To see him race up to sixth was not a surprise. The Andretti driver is third in the series standings.
2. Pato O'Ward (LW: 3)
O'Ward's fourth-place finish at Indy ended what he called a good points day, as he moved up to second in the standings. That would be great if he wasn't 115 points behind Palou.
1. Alex Palou (LW: 1)
Palou's win earned him his fifth victory in the six races to open the season. It will take at least a few races to knock the Ganassi driver off this spot.

Lottery.com and Sports.com Drivers Shine at Road America
ELKHART LAKE, Wis., June 23, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On one of the most technically demanding and tactically complex weekends of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and INDY NXT by Firestone seasons, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRY, LTRYW) and drivers impressed fans and analysts alike with strong performances at Road America—a legendary 6.51-km road course nestled in the woodlands of Wisconsin. Famed as America's National Park of Speed, Road America's long straights, fast corners, and razor-thin margins for error made for thrilling racing across both IndyCar and Indy NXT, with multiple cautions and tire strategies shaping the outcome of a hot and hard-fought weekend. A Media Snippet accompanying this announcement is available in this link. Louis FosterCar No. 45 – Rahal Letterman Lanigan (IndyCar)Pole Position | Finished: P11 | Sponsored by: IndyCar rookie Louis Foster stunned the paddock by taking a breakthrough pole position, besting three-time champion and Indy 500 winner Alex Palou despite being on used tires during the Fast Six shootout. It marked one of the most remarkable qualifying performances of the season. 'Yeah, still a little bit in shock,' . 'The team have been working their asses off—two rebuilds in two weeks after setbacks in Detroit and St. Louis. Massive props to the No. 45 Droplight / Desnuda crew. They needed this.' On race day, Foster maintained the lead and top-five position through the opening stages. However, a flurry of cautions and tire strategy reshuffles limited his use of the faster soft tires, ultimately resulting in a P11 finish—his best race result of the year so far. 'We turned what could've been an average result into a decent one. We'll regroup and come back even stronger at Mid-Ohio,' Callum IlottCar No. 90 – PREMA Racing (IndyCar)Started: P9 | Finished: P15 | Best Finish of 2025 | Sponsored by: Rounding out the team's strong showing, Callum Ilott brought home his best result of the 2025 season with a P15 finish for PREMA Racing. Starting on soft tires, Ilott hovered near the top 10 early on, making up ground through efficient pit work during multiple cautions in the opening phase of the 55-lap race. With varying tire strategies playing out across the field and five caution periods reshaping the order, Ilott stayed composed and executed a strong final stint on fresh soft tires. He picked off multiple competitors late in the race and crossed the line just behind former series champion Will Power. 'Overall it was a very tough race and super hot out there. The team did a great job, but the car was on edge in places it didn't need to be. We fought hard, and there was more in it if we had a bit more push-to-pass at the end. Still, we come away with points and a decent weekend overall,' Sebastian MurrayCar No. 2 – Dream Racing Dubai Dallara (Indy NXT)Started: P14 | Finished: P11 | Championship Standing: P9 (128 points)Sponsored by: INDY NXT rookie Seb Murray also delivered a career-best performance on a road course, surging from P14 to P11 to claim Jostens' Biggest Mover of the day. In just his first outing at Road America, Murray's sharp overtakes and consistent pace saw him break into the top ten battle, further strengthening his championship position. 'It was a hot day here at Road America, but overall, a really solid result. We were the Biggest Mover today which feels great,' . 'Looking forward to Mid-Ohio and building on this momentum.''We're incredibly proud of the association between and these three young, talented drivers—Sebastian, Callum, and Louis. From the outset, our selection process was both precise and strategic. These aren't just partnerships; they're long-term investments in future champions. 'The brand exposure we've seen over the last four race weekends has been exceptional, and the influx of interest from other IndyCar teams and global motorsport series has increased tenfold. It's validation that we're on the right track—both figuratively and literally. 'We're now actively developing a full driver and team development and sponsorship program for 2026, and I'm proud to say that Seb, Callum, and Louis are the cornerstones of that next chapter. and are young, ambitious, and built to scale—just like the drivers we support. 'This latest weekend was another example of great momentum and real traction across the board. And as a lifelong motorsport fan and driver, I have to give a special mention to Louis Foster's pole position. To put a car on pole in a field of 27 elite competitors is something truly special. We're just getting started, and fans can expect to see our brands at even more tracks and circuits around the world in the months to come.' About Inc. How Autonomous Robots Put a New Spin on the XPEL Indycar Race
XPEL, a global leader in paint protection film, window tint, and ceramic coating, is appearing at this weekend's IndyCar race at Road America beyond its event sponsorship. The surface protection company's solutions primarily serve the automotive industry, but they've also partnered with Coco Robotics, which uses autonomous delivery robots called robocouriers to deliver restaurant and convenience items around the clock in all weather across LA, Chicago, and Miami. To highlight the partnership, the companies have brought a couple of XPEL-protected Coco robots in Scott McLaughlin's XPEL IndyCar livery to the XPEL Grand Prix IndyCar race at Road America this weekend. The Coco robocouriers will interact with fans and deliver XPEL giveaways. IndyCar Series driver Scott McLaughlin has pre-recorded several lines that the Coco robocouriers or Coco robots will play when making deliveries. In the spirit of grand prix weekend, Coco robots were filmed racing each other from the track's finish line, while another clip showed an autonomous courier pulling up to attendees and popping its top to reveal complimentary merchandise like sunglasses, foam racing helmets, and hats. According to the manufacturer, a single parking space can fit 20 Coco robots, and each unit has 90 liters of storage space with a weatherproof compartment, enough to carry four full grocery bags or six XL pizzas. On sidewalks, Cocos travel at walking speeds up to 5 mph, and in select markets (or the Road America race track), they can travel up to 15 mph using bike lanes and roads as needed. Each Coco robot can move up to 20.5 miles per charge in extreme heat or cold, weighs 100 lbs, and links with remote human operators for optimal safety. The delivery solution's AI self-driving tech combines front, rear, left, and right cameras to register visual details like signs and lane markings, while LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) provides accurate depth sensing. This combination creates a 3D view of an environment for full 360-degree perception. While XPEL didn't specify the exact coatings used on Coco robots at Road America, XPEL's primary automotive products are protection film, window film, and ceramic coating. Coco robots are windowless, so XPEL's automotive protection film would help maintain the self-driving couriers' high-impact areas, while ceramic coating protects against elements like UV ray exposure and road grime during race weekend. From Tesla's upcoming robotaxi launch to autonomous robot couriers at race events, self-driving tech is becoming increasingly prevalent, and XPEL's partnership with Coco Robots shows how these mini vehicles benefit from products like protection film and ceramic coating, similar to traditional cars. Additionally, Coco Robotics has designed its autonomous delivery unit to function in extremely high and low temperatures, reflecting how self-driving tech is expanding from states like California into environments like Chicago with harsher weather. Last week, Coco Robotics announced it raised $80 million for manufacturing its last-mile delivery robots from a mix of undisclosed funding events spanning from 2021 to 2025, according to TechCrunch. Alex Palou Breaks Mini Drought and Races to Victory in XPEL Grand Prix at Road America
Alex Palou's dominance in the 2025 INDYCAR season took a brief pause after he won the Indianapolis 500. He was knocked out of the race at the Detroit Grand Prix early and finished eighth at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 last week. That ended up being the end of Palou's drought. He raced to victory again on Sunday, finishing first in the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America. Felix Rosenqvist finished second and Santino Ferrucci finished third. Kyle Kirkwood and Marcus Armstrong rounded out the top five, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Scott Dixon held the lead late in Sunday's race. But he had to go to pit road with two laps remaining, allowing Palou to regain the lead. Palou led for six of the 55 laps on Sunday, while Dixon finished ninth after leading for 27 laps. Sunday's win marked Palou's sixth victory in nine INDYCAR races this season. He sang "Red Solo Cup" right after the victory, too. There were also plenty of cautions in Sunday's race. Spin-outs and crashes forced Josef Newgarden, Sting Ray Robb and Robert Shwartzman to not finish the race. Christian Lundgaard, meanwhile, spun out late in Sunday's race, causing a caution as he fell out of the leader's pack to finish 24th. Here's a full look at Sunday's leaderboard: 1. Alex Palou2.
