Man killed, body stored in ice-cream freezer in 'love triangle murder' in Tripura

Hindustan Times11-06-2025

Agartala, A 26-year-old man was allegedly murdered and his body stored in an ice-cream freezer in Tripura in a love triangle gone wrong, police said on Wednesday.
The victim was in a relationship with a 20-year-old woman. On the other side, the woman's cousin wanted to be with her, West Tripura's SP Kiran Kumar said.
The couple was not talking to each other after a recent fight, and the cousin got an inkling, he said.
He plotted a well-designed plan to kill the boyfriend, and invited him to the house of a relative in South Indiranagar in West Tripura on June 8, police said.
The cousin, who is an MBBS graduate from Bangladesh, strangulated him to death with the help of three other persons present there, they said.
Then they stuffed the body in a trolley bag. The next day, the cousin called his parents, who live in Gandacherra, to come to Agartala and take the trolley bag with them, police said.
"Accordingly, his parents came to Agartala with a car and took the trolley bag to Gandacherra. They concealed the body in an ice-cream freezer in their shop," the SP said.
The cousin wanted to physically exploit the woman, who recently lost her father. He knew that he couldn't do that till the boyfriend was in the scene, so he conspired to kill him, he said.
The accused was a frequent visitor to the woman's house in Bankumari in the East Agartala police station area, he added.
Police began an investigation after the victim's family lodged a missing person's complaint, and the cousin was the first person to be arrested, the officer said.
"Based on his confession, the body of the victim was retrieved from the freezer on Wednesday. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the victim's family," he said.
A total of six persons, including the cousin's parents, were arrested, Kumar said.

According to the police, the girl approached a man around 4 pm Sunday and asked him to take her to a police station.'She told the man that the woman had adopted her and had been forcing her into prostitution for the last two years,' said Hemant Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Agra (Sadar Bazaar). Kumar said the police filed an FIR based on the man's complaint, and took the woman into custody. 'She said during interrogation that she adopted the girl two years ago, and since then, she has pushed her into the flesh trade. We are investigating the case further,' said the ACP. According to the police, the FIR was filed under section 70(2) (rape) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. When contacted, Kumar told The Indian Express that the woman had 'bought' the child from an acquaintance for Rs 60,000. 'She had not legally adopted her, but she had an affidavit from the person from whom she had taken the kid. Prima facie, it looks like all of them are involved in human trafficking,' said the ACP. The woman, the police said, would call people at her house to rape the girl. Apart from the woman, the police have booked three men. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. Jagan Mohan Reddy's car runs over YSRCP worker, former Andhra CM named in FIR

YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been named as an accused in a fatal road accident that allegedly occurred when he was on his way to Rentapalla village in Palnadu district recently, a police official said. Guntur district Superintendent of Police S Satish Kumar, addressing a press conference late on Sunday said that upon receiving the information about the old man, Singaiah, who suffered severe bleeding injuries, he was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead by doctors. On June 18, Reddy visited Rentapalla to call on a family member of a YSRCP leader who had died by suicide a year ago. The former CM's vehicle went through the Etukuru bypass. "After analysing various evidence, it was found that the deceased was seen under the wheels of Reddy's vehicle," Kumar said. A case was initially registered under Section 106(1) of BNS (causing death by negligence) based on a complaint by the deceased person's wife, Cheeli Lurdhu Mary, at the local police station. After analysing CCTV footage, drone visuals, and circumstantial evidence, "police confirmed that the deceased was run over by the Ex-CM's vehicle in the convoy," said police. Following this "confirmation", police altered the case to include Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 49 of the BNS (Abetment) and intensified the investigation into the circumstances involved. Other accused include Reddy's driver Ramana Reddy, Personal Assistant K Nageshwar Reddy, senior YSRCP leader YV Subbareddy, former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah, and former Minister Vidadala Rajini, Kumar told reporters. Their names have been added in the accused column, said Kumar, adding that legal action will proceed according to due process and applicable provisions of law, he said.
