UDF candidate Aryadan leading by 8086 votes after eleven rounds of counting
Malappuram, June 23 (UNI) Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Shoukath was leading with a margin of 8086 votes against CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate M Swaraj in the Nilambur Assembly by-election at the end of the eleventh-round counting held at Chungathara Marthoma HSS on Monday.
UDF secured 48679 votes, LDF – 40593 votes, Independent candidate and former Nilambur MLA P. V. Anvar – 13573 votes, and BJP-led NDA candidate Mohan George – 5452 votes each.
UDF secured a lead in all four panchayats at Vazhikkadavu, Moothedam and Edakkara, including a narrow edge of 800 odds at Pothukallu and Nilambur Municipality, two CPI(M)-controlled local bodies in the district. Now only two remaining panchayats, Karulayi and Amarambalam, are counting; both LDF-controlled panchayats are still pending.
Former LDF-backed independent MLA P. V. Anvar has said, "He got the majority of votes from both UDF and LDF fronts in their stronghold areas, and also added that this is a verdict against the LDF government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's ideology.
Mr Anvar has shown influence among the people since the first round, and the lead of Shoukath Anvar has continued from the first round to eleven rounds.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar questions Kavitha's credibility on BC issues
Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar questioned the credibility of BRS MLC K. Kavitha to speak on Backward Classes (BC) issues after what he termed a decade of neglect during the BRS regime. Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan along with MLC Dayakar, he asked, 'Did Ms. Kavitha ever raise her voice for BCs when BRS was in power? If not, what moral right does she now have.' 'From CM Revanth Reddy to TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, every leader in the Cabinet is clear in their resolve. The Congress is working with sincerity and not giving political colour to this issue,' he said. He said Mr. Revanth Reddy was correcting the decade-long neglect of the BRS and the BC bill, aiming at securing socio-political empowerment was an indication of it.

Trinamool Congress's Alifa Ahmed wins Kailganj bypoll, defeats BJP's Ashish Ghosh
Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Alifa Ahmed has won the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll in West Bengal's Nadia district by a massive margin of 50,049 votes, defeating her nearest BJP rival, Ashish Ghosh. The by-election was held following the death of her father and former MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed in February this to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Alifa secured 1,02,759 votes, while BJP's Ashish Ghosh received 52,710 votes. The Congress-Left-supported candidate, Kabil Uddin Shaikh, came third with 28,348 Alifa received around 9,000 votes less than her father's 1,11,696 votes in 2021, her winning margin increased. Nasiruddin had won by 46,987 votes in the last election, whereas Alifa surpassed that, seemingly due to a split in votes between BJP and Congress-Left candidates. Outside the counting centre, Alifa thanked voters for their support.
