Sickeningly claustrophobic moment woman got stuck in narrow gap between two building
A California woman was left screaming in terror after becoming wedged in a 20-inch gap between two buildings.
Sickening photos revealed the stomach-churning moment she found herself trapped between the two structures and balancing 15 feet off the ground.
The woman, who has yet to be identified, was left standing on a wooden rafter connecting the two homes in Oakland.
Her frantic screams prompted an emergency response and firefighters initiated a 'high-angle rescue' to safely remove her from the dangerous situation.
Oakland Fire Captain Brian Kelly told local CW affiliate, KRON-TV, that his department responded to the incident just after 11 am on Sunday.
The narrow space made it difficult for firefighters to rescue her using a ladder, so they implemented a rope system to lower her to safety.
'She was afraid to move,' Kelly told KRON.
'The only safe way to get her down was attaching a rope rescue system to her.'
Drone images revealed the complex operation which was launched to save the woman.
A rope system was suspended from one of the trucks, and photos shows the nail-biting moments where firefighters connected the woman to the pulley system.
She was lowered to safety in under an hour, and authorities said she was uninjured and didn't require medical treatment.
It is unclear what led to her getting stuck between the buildings, but Kelly said she may have been suffering from a mental health crisis.
Exactly how long she had been trapped was also not known.
A shockingly similar incident occurred in India on the same day the Oakland woman was rescued.
DailyMail.com reached out to the Oakland Fire Department for more information but didn't immediately hear back.
Local Indian outlet, DT Next, reported that a 60-year-old woman named Bommi got trapped between two houses while she was home alone.
According to the outlet, Bommi was on the terrace after she left clothes to dry outside and lost her balance.
She fell into the narrow gap between her and her neighbor's home and screamed for help.
Her neighbor attempted to pull her out using a rope but was unsuccessful.
