Cash At Judge's House: SC Rejects Application To Reveal Report Of In-House Panel

Cash At Judge's House: The Supreme Court has rejected an application seeking a copy of the report of the court-appointed in-house panel, which was formed to enquire into the alleged cash recovery at the house of former Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma. The application was filed under the Right To Information (RTI) Act, reportedly by an advocate from Maharashtra.
This stems from the incident when a pile of burnt cash was discovered allegedly at the residence of Justice Varma in Delhi after a fire on March 14. Following the incident, a three-member committee was constituted to conduct an inquiry.
According to the news agency IANS, the top court registry, the apex court registry, also refused to reveal a copy of the communication written by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna to the President and Prime Minister in this matter.
After the allegations of cash discovery, Justice Varma was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had informed in a statement that then CJI Khanna had written to the President and the PM, and forwarded the report of the three-member committee.
"Chief Justice of India, in terms of the In-House Procedure, has written to Hon'ble the President of India and Hon'ble the Prime Minister of India enclosing therewith copy of the 3-Member Committee report dated 03.05.2025 along with the letter/response dated 06.05.2025 received from Mr Justice Yashwant Varma," the press release of the apex court said.
Later, a two-judge bench of the apex court refused a plea seeking criminal prosecution of Justice Varma.
"There was an in-house inquiry report. It has been forwarded to the President of India and the Prime Minister of India for action. If you are seeking a writ of mandamus, you have to first make a representation to those authorities before which the issue is pending," a bench headed by Justice Abhay S. Oka told advocate Mathews J. Nedumpara, as per IANS.

Israel-Iran conflict: Tehran hangs Majid Mosayebi, alleged Mossad agent, third execution since April

Iranian authorities executed on Sunday a man convicted of being an agent for Israel's Mossad spy service, the judiciary said, as fighting raged between the two foes for the tenth day. According to an AFP report, judiciary's Mizan Online website said, 'Majid Mosayebi... was hanged this morning after going through the full process of criminal procedure and after his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court,' adding that Mosayebi sought to provide 'sensitive information ... to Mossad'. Iranian authorities have carried out multiple arrests of people suspected of spying for Israel since its attack on June 13, the report added. Mizan did not mention when Moseybi was arrested. According to the report, Iran had executed a man convicted of spying for Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, the judiciary said on May 28. "After identification, arrest, and judicial proceedings against Pedram Madani, who was spying in favour of the Zionist regime, and following the complete process of criminal procedure and the final confirmation and upholding of the verdict by the Supreme Court, he was brought to justice and executed," Mizan Online reported. According to the report, Madani was accused of transmitting classified information and holding meetings with Mossad officers abroad, including in Brussels. The judiciary said he had travelled to "the occupied territories" – the term used by Iranian officials to describe Israel – prior to his arrest in 2020-2021. He was also convicted of acquiring "illicit wealth" by receiving euros and bitcoin from Israel, the report added. Mizan added that Madani was ultimately found guilty of "espionage on behalf of the Zionist regime's intelligence service (Mossad)" under charges of waging war against God and "corruption on earth", and sentenced to death. The report did not detail Madani's age, profession or how he obtained the classified information. His case follows a string of similar executions in Iran targeting individuals accused of collaborating with Israel. In April, Iran executed Mohsen Langarneshin for allegedly aiding Mossad in the 2022 assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei in Tehran. Authorities said Langarneshin provided technical support to Mossad and met with Israeli agents overseas. According to an AP report, the US military struck three sites in Iran early Sunday, inserting itself into Israel's effort to decapitating Iran's nuclear program in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe amid Tehran's threat of reprisals that could spark a wider regional conflict. The decision to directly involve the US comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that have moved to systematically eradicate the country's air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, while damaging its nuclear enrichment facilities, an AP report said. But US and Israeli officials have said that American stealth bombers and a 30,000-pound (13,600-kilogram) bunker buster bomb they alone can carry offered the best chance of destroying heavily fortified sites connected to the Iranian nuclear program buried deep underground, the report added. President Donald Trump announced the strikes. Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported that attacks targeted the country's Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites. The agency did not elaborate. Iran's foreign minister said Iran reserves the right to retaliate.

"Bengaluru Metro should learn the best from around the world": MP Tejasvi Surya

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejasvi Surya on Sunday criticised the Bengaluru Metro for its lack of ambition, aesthetics, and respect for commuters. In a post on X, MP Surya shared a YouTube link to a video titled 'Why Moscow Is Insanely Well Designed', urging the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to learn from international best practices. 'Bengaluru Metro should learn the best from around the world,' he post read. He particularly pointed out the Moscow Metro, highlighting its impressive train frequency of every 80 seconds and its beautifully designed stations, which he said could serve as a model for Bengaluru. 'Moscow Metro runs at 80-second frequency, covers the city with dense radial lines, costs a fraction, and every station is a work of art. Watch the video in the link below. Public transport isn't just about movement. It's about ambition, aesthetics, and respect for the commuter. But this sentiment is missing in Bengaluru,' his post read. Surya also questioned the transparency of the fare fixation process. He expressed concerns over the withholding of the fare fixation committee report, stating that the public deserves to know the reasons behind the steep pricing for the metro services. 'I have again reminded MD @OfficialBMRCL today to make public the fare fixation committee report. Why are you not making it public? What is it that you want to hide? It certainly isn't a document of national security implications that it can't be made public. We deserve a right to understand what led the committee to fix such steep prices for Metro!,' the post continued. He further emphasised the need for public transport to be the most affordable and efficient option for urban mobility, urging authorities to push for improvements in this area. 'Public transport has to be the cheapest and most efficient option for urban mobility. We need to push that. Why Moscow Is Insanely Well Designed via @YouTube,' the post read. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was established jointly by the Central and Karnataka governments, with an equal (50-50) partnership. Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, currently serves as the Chairman of BMRCL. According to a statement, officials from both the Central and state governments hold positions as Managing Directors and Directors. Since BMRCL is an autonomous entity, the state government does not have complete control over it. Like all metro corporations across the country, BMRCL operates under the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, enacted by the Central government. (ANI)

'Provided sensitive information': Iran executes alleged Mossad spy; dozens detained since Israeli strikes

Representative image As the conflict between Iran and Israel entered its tenth day, Iranian authorities on Sunday executed a man convicted of spying for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, according to the country's judiciary. "Majid Mosayebi... was hanged this morning after going through the full process of criminal procedure and after his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court," the judiciary-run Mizan online website reported. He had been accused of attempting to provide sensitive information to Mossad. Mosayebi's case is the latest in a series of similar executions. In May, Iranian authorities executed Mohsen Langarneshin Pedram Madani, also convicted of spying for Mossad. Since Israel's attack on June 13, Iranian authorities have made several arrests of individuals suspected of spying for Israel. The execution comes the same day as US bombed Iran's three nuclear facilities, following which, Tehran carried out retaliatory strikes on Tel Aviv and targeted strategic sites in Israel. Iran's revolutionary guards said they won't be intimidated by the noise made by Trump 'or criminal gangs ruling the White House and Tel Aviv' and warned that US has places itself directly 'at the front line of aggression' by attacking nuclear sites.
