One hooded youth in a light blue body warmer even gives the impression that he is carrying a knife.
In the video's on-screen captions, James wrote: "A gang of lads kept touching my guitar.
"So I thought I'd put them on camera to stop them doing it again."
As one of the boys approaches again, James tells him: "You can touch if you want.
"I'll go on the TikTok Live and show everyone what you're doing."
He then turns the camera to the group, who beat a hasty retreat once they realise they are being filmed.
As they slink off, James asks the group: "Why are you hioding your faces? Do you want to touch my stuff again or what?"
James' friend Brad then tips him off that one of the boys, wearing a jeans and a sleeveless pukka jacket that partially covers his face, is coming back.
The intrepid busker goes to intercept the intruder - but it was only when reviewing the footage afterwards that he realised that the boy appeared to be reaching for what could be a knife.
As James writes in the caption: "It's only upon watching this back do I realise he's reaching for his pocket.
"Luckily I was able to grab his arms."

The boy then slaps James with what appears to be an open palm, before James wades in and clobbers the attacker, plus several of his friends who also try to defend their mate.
Several bystanders then step in to try and cool tensions.
As James wrote: "People step in to break it up, which is good for me because there was about five of them.
"People think they can just absue buskers and we won't defend ourselves."
The boy in the puffa jacket then aims a kick at James, who catches his foot and pulls him to the ground.
He then goes back to the mic and tells shoppers: 'I'm just trying to make a living, man. Do you know what I mean?'
West Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.
James posted the video on his social media accounts with the question: 'Was I right to defend myself?"
One Facebook user said: 'Sometimes gotta stand up to bullies.'
Another added said: 'Nice jabs mate…be careful though those little scabs will be back with knives.'
Meanwhile a commentator on TikTok said: "You know how embarrassing it is to try throw a kick but the guy grabs your leg and drops you."

He has been named as 46-year-old Jarrod Gelling. Zunilda, who called herself Amy, had been missing since Saturday after flying to the Costa del Sol from Dubai. Her relatives described Jarrod overnight as "aggressive" and said they believe he could have lashed out after she told him she wanted a divorce. Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help Jarrod following a knee operation before travelling to Portugal to compete and then going back to Colombia alone after taking the divorce decision. She said: "For my aunt it was the last trip, a goodbye. "She had taken the decision to split from her husband because of his aggressive behaviour. "They had broken up already once and were apart for quite a while but then got back together again to try to resolve things, although the mistreatment continued." The couple's bodies were found just before 2pm yesterday inside a property on a residential estate. Zunilda's gym companion raised the alarm saying he hadn't seen her since June 14. A National Police spokesman in Malaga said: "The National Police is investigating the death of a man and woman found lifeless at a property in Fuengirola. "In the absence of official identification of the bodies, initial inquiries are pointing to them being those of a 43-year-old woman of Colombian origin and her 46-year-old partner of American origin. "Officers went to the property on a residential estate about 1.45pm after a friend of the woman whose body was found reported her disappearance on Wednesday at the National Police Station in Torremolinos. "Her body showed obvious signs of violence and that of the man's signs indicating a suicide-type death which is something an autopsy will have to confirm." The suspected killer is believed to have Colombian and US nationality. If the woman's death is confirmed as a gender violence murder, it would be the third so far in the province of Malaga and the fifth in Southern Spain's Andalucia region. Spanish news website El Espanol has reported that Zunilda also had more than 100,000 followers on OnlyFans and Fansly. She finished second in the NPC Worldwide Latin American Championships in 2021. Her coach Branden Rey said in an emotional Instagram post: "We had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world my friend. "I told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year and I meant it. "Rest in paradise Amy." Bodybuilder friend and coach Behnaz Azar said in an online tribute: "I don't know where to begin. "My heart is broken, my mind is clouded, and my soul is drowning in shock and sorrow. "Amy - my kind, strong, fierce friend. "The most powerful woman I knew in the world of bodybuilding, yet with the gentlest heart." 5 Zunilda's niece Yuleydis told Malaga-based newspaper Sur her aunt was going to help Jarrod following a knee operation Credit: Solarpix

Remaining calm, the train worker tries to reduce the tension by asking the passenger to sit. The worker can be heard saying: 'I'm just gonna ask you to take a seat - come on, let's take a seat.' The passenger then raised his voice, shouting 'I'm going to break your face. You're lucky' at the worker. Then, he waved his hand towards the managers while appearing to hold his mobile phone. In response, the manager said: 'Don't point that in my face. 'I need to close the café bar. Don't put that in my face please.' However, the passenger continued to be aggressive and shouted 'shut your mouth. Try it now'. The shocking event has been confirmed to have taken place on March 16, though the train's destination remains unknown. The Sun has contacted the British Transport Police and LNER for comment on the incident onboard the train. In a separate incident on board a train bound for King's Cross on July 2, 2024, another man can be seen shouting at a ticket collector. Moment Tube driver 'KNITS' and watches videos on phone while driving despite endless striking leaving commuters furious The footage is included in the first half of the video and shows the passenger swearing repeatedly at the rail worker, while saying "you're going to lose your job". Meanwhile, the worker raises a hand to calm the man - prompting the passenger to accuse the railway worker of laying his "hands" on him. The company chose to release the footage as part of 'Rail Safety Week'. The week is aimed at supporting staff who have been victims of abuse by passengers, while promoting sensible behaviour for train users. The video surfaced just as news came in that a man was arrested in London for allegedly having a gun, whilst on a tube platform. Cops raced to Elm Park Underground station at 7am to arrest the 61-year-old. Investigations into the incident are now underway and police are appealing to witnesses for more information. A spokesperson for the police said: 'Officers were called just after 7am today (June 19) to Elm Park Underground station following reports of a man in possession of a firearm. "Officers attended, and a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody. 'Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 109 of 19 June.'
