AI Pragya' programme brings future tech to youth
: A special training session under the Uttar Pradesh government's AI Pragya initiative was held at Government ITI, Aliganj, on Friday. The programme, organised by the centre for e-Governance in collaboration with 1M1B, aims to train 10 lakh people in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies by the end of 2025.
Launched by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on May 9, AI Pragya is part of a wider effort to strengthen employment, education, agriculture, healthcare, and governance through technology. A government order was issued on April 24, to implement the programme across the state. Students expressed enthusiasm for the hands-on learning experience

The session was inaugurated by Neha Jain, special secretary, IT and electronics, and state coordinator, centre for e-Governance, along with ITI principal Raj Kumar Yadav. Over 120 students attended the session, which covered topics including AI basics, cybersecurity, AI ethics, real-world use cases, and career opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Neha Jain said AI Pragya will equip youth with future-ready skills and prepare them for jobs in AI, data science, and related fields. She encouraged students to take full advantage of the training.

Now, UP cities to be monitored on basis of green initiatives
LUCKNOW The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Friday approved the urban green policy aimed at driving sustainable, eco-friendly growth in urban local bodies. Under this, a green city monitoring system will be developed to evaluate and award green star ratings to cities based on their environmental efforts and green infrastructure. The policy will give new shape to cities with development of vertical and rooftop gardens besides Miyawaki forests. The state cabinet by circulation approved the proposal, which was a revolutionary step for environment conservation in accordance with the vision of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The urban green policy was an important step in the direction of environment conservation and help reduce the impact of climate change, said an official spokesman. The objective of the policy is to boost green initiatives and efforts for sustainable and inclusive development. 'This policy will be a game changer and targeted intervention for urban greening,' said principal secretary Amrit Abhijat. Under the provisions of the policy, a three-tier strategy would be adopted to boost green initiatives at the level of cities, localities and buildings. Mini dense forests would be developed expeditiously in urban areas through the Miyawaki forest concept. At the same time, green fairs would be organised in cities to boost green initiatives and develop green belts, sponge parks and low emission zones. At the locality level, schemes would be worked out for development of community gardens, pocket parks and adoption of parks. Green building standards would be made mandatory for construction of new buildings with use of environment friendly material, energy saving technology and green roofs would be encouraged. The policy provides for financial assistance with coordination between the centre and the state government. The financial assistance may be procured from Amrut 2.0, national clean air programme, central and state finance commissions. Besides, urban local bodies may mobilise their own resources and also get funds from CSR and other sources. The policy paves way for setting up of green city monitoring framework and the state's cities will be ranked as green +, green ++ and green +++ on the basis of green initiatives, and cities with high rankings will get awards. The policy will be implemented in three phases. In the first phase (2025-2027), it will focus on smart cities and main metropolitan towns. In the second phase (2027-2030), cities with a population of 1 lakh and above will be covered. The policy will be implemented in nagar palikas and nagar panchayats in the third phase after 2030.

ITI courses remain popular, 1.2L apply for admissions
Pune: Over 1.2 lakh students have applied for Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) with an intake capacity of 1.4 lakh seats this year. Applications are 10% higher in state-run ITIs as compared to private institutes. Over the past 5-6 years, ITIs have seen a rise in demand due to work opportunities. A guaranteed apprenticeship after completion of the three-year course has raised the bar. Experts said that better job opportunities after course completion, direct second-year entry to engineering courses and new-age courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and the traditional electronic, mechanical, and information technology diploma courses were the main drivers for students to pick ITI. Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) has also announced a revised schedule for admissions to ITIs. Students can now submit their online applications till June 26. So far, over 1.39 lakh students have registered for ITI admissions, of which 1.25 lakh have completed and submitted their applications. This admission process covers 1,007 ITIs across the state, including 419 govt-run and 588 private institutes. The online application process began on May 15 . The first merit list will be out on July 9, followed by the first round of admissions between July 10 and 15. Subsequent admission rounds will go on till Aug with the final institute-level counselling round on Aug 21. Suresh Kadu, retired principal of a govt ITI in Pune, said, "Students opt for diploma, technical courses, skill-based course or vocational education after SSC. The demand for students with ITI diplomas is high in the market for a skilled workforce. Students also want these short-term courses and there is job waiting at the end of it." Affordable fees are another attraction. They range between Rs 15,000 and Rs 16,000 for govt-run institutes and private institutes charge around Rs 25,000. Student Vishal Jadhav said, "I will set up my startup in mechanics. My uncle has been in the business for over 20 years. The ITI course will qualify me to set up the business." Uttar Pradesh government to hold e-auction for 144 industrial plots in 16 districts
The state government is set to hold a mega e-auction for the allotment of 144 industrial plots across 16 districts in Uttar Pradesh. He also emphasised that the entire process must be carried out in a fair, transparent, and time-bound manner. The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will oversee the large-scale e-auction, offering plots ranging from 300 square meters to 13,197 square meters. These plots are located in Mathura, Mainpuri, Shahjahanpur, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Banda, Baghpat, Unnao, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Varanasi, and Amethi. A 5,097.10 square meter plot in Baghpat has been reserved for a mega project approved under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy (UPIIEPP-2022), facilitated through the Invest UP initiative. All plots have fixed reserve prices, and applications can be submitted until July 5. The eligible applicants will be shortlisted to participate in the mega e-auction scheduled for July 11. The spokesman said that among the 144 plots available, Amethi offers the highest number, with a total of 33. The smallest plot, measuring 300 square meters, is located in IIDC Banthra and carries a reserve price of ₹ 16.47 lakh, suitable for setting up a leather goods manufacturing unit. The largest plot, spanning 13,197 square meters in Malwan, Kanpur, has a reserve price of ₹ 3.74 crore and is ideal for general industrial use. The district-wise distribution of plots includes 14 in Mathura, 11 in Mainpuri, nine each in Shahjahanpur and Hamirpur, eight in Jalaun, four in Jhansi, 15 in Fatehpur, nine in Kanpur, three in Banda, seven in Unnao, eight in Saharanpur, four in Muzaffarnagar, seven in Hapur, and two in Varanasi. As per UPSIDA's timeline, interested applicants must complete payment of the catalogue fee, processing fee, and EMD by July 4. The final deadline for submitting the complete online application is July 5. After thorough scrutiny, eligible applicants will be invited to participate in the e-auction on July 11.
