Monaco madness! 11 car pile up at turn 1 in F2

Richard Verschoor – third in the current F2 driver standings – was also eliminated after slamming into the rear of his teammate Dunne during the pile-up.
The crash occurred when Rodin Motorsport's Alex Dunne T-boned ART Grand Prix driver Martins, sending him hard into the wall at the Saint Devote corner. Martins had managed to edge ahead of pole-sitter Dunne, but the Irish driver refused to yield and crashed into him, sparking chaos behind.
Contact between Formula 2 drivers Victor Martins and Alex Dunne at Turn 1 on the opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix triggered an 11-car pile-up and brought out the red flag immediately.
Marshals were on the scene immediately, launching recovery efforts and performing triage to assess which cars could still continue. The congestion at Turn 1 was so severe that one of the Trident Racing cars briefly went airborne on impact.
On-board footage from Martins' car clearly shows he was ahead of Dunne while taking the apex, only to be shunted into the barrier. Frustrated, Martins threw his hands up at Dunne in a gesture that unmistakably conveyed, "What the hell?"
In a rare twist for Monaco, starting from the back of the grid could have offered a genuine shot at victory amid the chaos.
At the restart, Invicta Racing's Leonardo Fornaroli emerged in the lead, having navigated the mayhem and built on his P3 grid position. But the drama was far from over.
With just 14 drivers remaining, Dino Beganovic crashed into the wall at the Casino section, prompting yet another safety car period.
Jak Crawford of Dams Lucas Oil inherited the lead after catching up to the safety car. The race was effectively neutralised from that point as marshals cleared the second major incident. Crawford ultimately emerged as the surprise winner – a very lucky driver who walks away from the Monaco madness with a victory on his résumé.

World Rankings: Springboks, Ireland to lose ground to New Zealand or France
The Springboks are set to have their lead at the top cut over the next few weeks. The 2025 rugby test season is officially back in action and it comes with huge implications for the Springboks, All Blacks, Ireland and France. The Springboks kick off their season with an entertaining historic home fixture against the Barbarians. Thereafter, they face Georgia before playing two tests against Italy. Meanwhile, the All Blacks and France are set for a three-match test series against France. Whilst, the British & Irish Lions are on tour to Australia. So, this has big implications for the top four. Let's break it down. The Springboks cannot add any ranking points to their total due to the nature of their opponents. Firstly, the Barbarians are not regarded as a test nation. So, no ranking points are up for grabs for the world champions in their opening test match. Meanwhile, both Georgia (11th) and Italy (10th) are to far below the Boks for points to be awarded to them. Meaning, the Springboks will remain on 92.78 points until the end of the July test series window. Meanwhile, the mighty All Blacks take on the Flamboyant French. The All Blacks currently sit second on 90.36 points. Whilst, France is currently ranked fourth with a points total of 89.51. Just behind Ireland 89.83, who currently occupy third spot. Now, to put this in context both the Springboks and Ireland cannot add to their World Rankings points in June and July. This is because the Irish are not in action due to the British & Irish Lions series in Australia. Therefore, New Zealand and France have a chance to close the gap on the Springboks. NZ can cut the lead at the top and France can leapfrog Ireland and NZ with a victory. A win for the All Blacks by less than seven in the first test will see them gain 0.62 points which would place them on 90.98, just 1.80 behind the Boks. A win by 15 or more points will result in the All Blacks gaining 0.92 points. Thus, reaching 91.29 points after the first test. They are currently 2.42 points behind the Springboks. Whereas a French win is worth a lot more – 1.38 points to be exact. If France win the first test they will leapfrog Ireland and NZ will drop to fourth. In this scenario, they will have 90.90 points. In the most unlikely scenario, if France win by 15 or more they will gain 2.08 and be on 91.59 after the first test. In summary, the Springboks and Ireland cannot add to their World Rankings points total. However, NZ and France can close the gap on the Boks and the Irish. Rassie Erasmus took Springboks to a 'dark place' ahead of Barbarians season opener

The same goes for many of his teammates, who have walked this journey with coach Rassie Erasmus since 2018. They have been there, done that and have two Rugby World Cup-winning T-shirts to show for it. There is nothing they haven't experienced in the Springbok environment Or so they thought … Kolbe revealed on Monday that their pre-season camp ahead of the 2025 international season, which starts on Saturday with a match against the Barbarians in Cape Town, was the toughest one he has ever experienced with the Springboks. The fleet-footed wing says there were plenty of 'dark' moments as Erasmus and his coaching staff put the team through their paces at altitude in Johannesburg ahead of a jam-packed year, which could see them play 15 matches by December. Erasmus' mantra has always been that the intensity of their training needs to be on such a level that what they face on the weekend feels like a game of touchies. And he certainly didn't hold back over the last couple of weeks. 'It's probably my toughest pre-season that I have been part of in the Springboks,' Kolbe told the media at the team's hotel on Monday. 'Physically, the whole squad is doing well. There is a reason why we go up to Johannesburg because of the altitude. 'But it does bring the best out of everyone, it's tough and pushes you to the limit, where you get into a dark place. It brings everyone's character to the fore, to show what it takes in those dark moments … to get out of there and just hang in there. 'It's been good preparation.' The intensity of the training must have been a massive eye opener for the newbies in the Bok team. Erasmus has been actively busy with the rebuild since last year, as many of his banker players such as Kolbe are on the wrong side of 30 as they head into the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. Last year Erasmus used a total of 50 players, blooding 12 rookies to build capacity over the next few years before they go and defend their title Down Under in two years' time. Kolbe is certainly enjoying the injection of new blood, saying the competition for places is keeping everybody sharp. 'The young talent is unbelievable. It keeps each and everyone of us on our toes. They are pushing for positions and we are pushing for positions,' Kolbe added. 'It brings the best out of each and everyone of us, and whoever gets the opportunity on game day, we have to make sure that we prepare well and do the business on the weekend.'
