Qatar Tourism (QT) hosted the inaugural Qatar Tourism Awards Alumni Network event on May 12, at Mandarin Oriental, Doha – winner of the Outstanding 5-Star Hotel 2024 Qatar Tourism Awards.
The Qatar Tourism Awards Alumni Network brings together winners from the first two editions of the Awards, alongside industry leaders and senior management from Qatar Tourism.
During his welcome speech, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, said, 'Through this forum, we create a platform for the exchange of ideas, success stories, and opportunities for collaboration, with the goal of drawing insights from the achievements of the Qatar Tourism Award recipients. These shared experiences serve to enhance the quality of tourism services and support the development of a more competitive and distinguished sector at both regional and international levels. At Qatar Tourism, we firmly believe that recognition should not end with the award itself but rather serve as the foundation for a continued partnership – one that fosters professional growth and reinforces the culture of excellence we strive to embed across all facets of our tourism sector.'
The event featured a panel discussion on leadership, sustainable innovation, and the role of professional recognition in advancing organisational growth and excellence. The conversation highlighted participants' experiences in promoting Qatari identity, expanding the reach of digital tourism, and enhancing the overall experience for residents and visitors. Moderated by Jassim Mahmoud, director of PR and Communications at Visit Qatar, the panellists included Eng. Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari, CEO of Msheireb Properties, winner of the 'Leading Tourism Facility Sustainability Award', 'Iconic Local Attractions Award', 'Smart Solutions Award' and 'Cultural Experience Award', Nada Al Sulaiti, founder of Hairaat and winner of the Leading Local Retail Brand award, Saoud Al Kuwari, Tourism Influencer of the Year; Ammar Samad, general manager of Zulal Wellness Resort, winner of Exceptional Resort Experience and Exceptional Spa Experience for both Year 1 and Year 2; Shane Eldstrom and CEO of Place Vendôme, winner of the Premier Shopping Mall Experience award. The panellists shared perspectives on how to leverage the awards to support institutional development and concluded the session with practical advice and encouragement for prospective applicants of the next edition of the awards.

St Petersburg: The State of Qatar participated in the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum, which took place in Russia over four days, with the participation of several heads of government, senior officials, and experts from around the world. The State of Qatar's official delegation was led byMinister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed and representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Qatar Investment Authority, the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (Invest Qatar), and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Qatari delegation highlighted the strength of Qatar's economy and its leading position both regionally and internationally. They also showcased the country's attractive investment environment for global businesspeople and investors, presenting key incentives, advantages, and initiatives launched to support the private sector and enhance the competitiveness and diversification of Qatar's economy in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairsآparticipated in the forum's plenary session, attended by President of the Russian Federation HE Vladimir Putin, along with a number of prominent political and economic figures and decision-makers from around the world. Dr Al Sayed also took part in a high-level discussion session on searching for new engines of growth: redesigning the global financial and trade framework. During his remarks in the session, he highlighted the State of Qatar's role in promoting innovation and research as key pillars for sustainable economic growth. Dr Al Sayed pointed to the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Strategy 2030, which aims to bring about a qualitative transformation by enhancing institutional infrastructure and setting national priorities in areas such as food security, health, energy, technology, and logistics. He said that Qatar is encouraging both the public and private sectors to adopt advanced technological solutions that enhance efficiency and competitiveness and support entrepreneurship, particularly in priority sectors. He also deemed the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a successful regional integration model, noting its achievements in unifying economic systems and policies, and in strengthening joint infrastructure and services. His Excellency added that the GCC is steadily progressing toward full economic integration, further solidifying its position as a global financial and investment hub. Dr Al Sayed also pointed out that the GDP of GCC countries has reached approximately USD 2.2 trillion, placing the bloc 9th globally. Furthermore, GCC financial markets rank 7th worldwide in terms of market capitalization, representing 4.3 percent of total global markets. In 2024, the non-oil sector contributed 75.9 percent of the region's GDP. He also highlighted Qatar's success in implementing a digital economy, driven by its advanced infrastructure and adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, positioning the country at the forefront of the global shift toward a knowledge-based economy. On the sidelines of the forum, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairsآheld separate meetings with Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture HE Maxim Markovich and Chairman of VTB Ban Andrei Kostin. The meetings explored prospects for cooperation across various sectors and highlighted Qatar's attractiveness in terms of the incentives, legislation, and the promising opportunities it offers to encourage entrepreneurs and business leaders to investment. He also toured the accompanying exhibition, visiting the pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain - this year's guest of honour - along with other participating entities. He was briefed on the latest services and innovations present in sectors such as industry, financial services and insurance, information technology, healthcare, education and science, business consulting, telecommunications, logistics and transport, real estate, hospitality and tourism, and metals and mining.

Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 18 to 21. Qatar Chamber was represented at the event by Eng. Ali bin Abdullatif Al-Misnad, Board Member of Qatar Chamber and Chairman of the Qatari side of the Qatari-Russian Joint Business Council. On the sidelines of the forum, Al-Misnad held several meetings with Russian business leaders and economic officials to discuss trade and economic cooperation between the two friendly countries and explore ways to strengthen these ties. The discussions also highlighted the pivotal role played by the Qatari-Russian Joint Business Council in fostering business relations, enhancing communication between Qatari and Russian entrepreneurs, and promoting mutual partnerships and investment opportunities in both countries. Al-Misnad reaffirmed Qatar Chamber's commitment to enhancing trade relations and increasing bilateral trade. He emphasized the Qatari private sector's interest in expanding cooperation with its Russian counterpart, aiming to elevate collaboration to new levels and position Qatar as a key hub for Russian trade in the region. He further noted the Chamber's support for fostering partnerships between Qatari and Russian companies, as well as creating a conducive environment for building mutually beneficial business and investment alliances. Fitch affirms QIIB's rating at ‘A' with a stable outlook

Tribune News Network Doha Fitch Ratings has affirmed QIIB's Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'A' with a Stable Outlook, highlighting the bank's continued strength across key financial and operational indicators. In its latest report, Fitch cited several factors supporting the rating, including QIIB's solid franchise in Islamic banking, strong asset quality, sound profitability, robust liquidity, and relatively low reliance on non-resident funding compared to local peers. The agency noted that the bank maintained high-quality financing assets, with the non-performing financing (NPF) coverage ratio standing at approximately 106% as of first quarter (Q1) 2025 one of the strongest among domestic banks. Fitch also expects QIIB to sustain its profitability, supported by efficient operations and stable customer-based further highlighted that the rating reflects potential support from the Qatari government if needed, underpinned by the sovereign's high credit rating of 'AA' with a Stable Outlook. Commenting on the affirmation, QIIB Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulbasit Ahmad al-Shaibei said, 'Fitch's reaffirmation of our 'A' rating underscores the strength of our financial fundamentals and our ability to deliver consistent growth in an evolving market.' He noted, 'This rating reaffirms investor and stakeholder confidence in our strategy and performance. It also reflects the robust support of Qatar's resilient economy, which continues to offer a strong foundation for sustainable expansion.' Dr. Al-Shaibei emphasised that QIIB remains committed to adopting best practices across all areas of banking, with a particular focus on digital transformation, innovation, and delivering value-added Shariah-compliant financial solutions. He concluded by acknowledging the crucial role of Qatar Central Bank, stating, 'We deeply appreciate the sound policies and regulatory guidance of Qatar Central Bank, which continue to provide a stable and secure framework for the banking sector's long-term growth.'
