Google unveils safety charter for India's AI-led transformation

New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): Google on Tuesday unveiled its Safety Charter for India's AI-led transformation, at the 'Safer with Google India Summit', focusing on the company's deep commitment to creating a safer online environment and empowering users, businesses, and governments while building AI responsibly.
The strategic blueprint operates through three foundational pillars-- keeping end users safe from online frauds and scams; strengthening cybersecurity for government and enterprise infrastructure; and building AI responsibly.
Under its Digikavach program, Google has reached over 177 million Indians with AI-powered protections and awareness initiatives to combat financial fraud.
AI integration across its platforms is transforming threat detection--Search now identifies 20x more scam-related pages; impersonation attacks on customer service and government sites have dropped by over 80 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively.
Google Messages blocks over 500 million scam texts monthly and has issued more than 2.5 billion suspicious link warnings via on-device AI.
Since its October 2024 pilot in India, Google Play Protect has blocked nearly 6 crore high-risk app installation attempts across 13 million devices.
Google Pay has issued 4.1 crore scam transaction alerts.
Gmail continues to protect over 2.5 billion inboxes globally, automatically blocking more than 99.9 per cent of spam, phishing, and malware.
By combining AI-powered threat detection across platforms with cross-sector intelligence sharing and proactive policy measures, Google has already demonstrated significant impact, including Google Pay averting Rs 13,000 crore in financial fraud during 2024.
Google is enhancing cybersecurity through an AI-first, secure-by-design approach focused on early threat detection and intelligence sharing.
The Google Cloud M-Trends report offers insights into key attack trends, while Project Zero, in collaboration with DeepMind, marked a global first--using AI to discover previously unknown memory-safety flaws in widely used software like SQLite.
To strengthen the broader ecosystem, Google.org has committed an additional USD 5 million to The Asia Foundation, expanding the APAC Cybersecurity Fund to support 10+ new cyber-clinics, including partnerships with Indian universities to train MSMEs and students. In parallel, Google announced a collaboration with IIT-Madras in advancing Post-Quantum Cryptography, developing next-gen anonymous tokens that enable secure, privacy-first digital interactions for the future.

16 million passwords leaked on Internet: How to check if your Facebook, Instagram, Gmail password leaked

The leak exposed 16 billion login credentials, passwords, email and social media platforms like Google, Facebook, and Telegram Security researchers have warned of a massive data breach which has compromised 16 millions login credentials worldwide. The data leaked exposed user data on platforms like Google, Facebook, Apple and countless other services. The discovery, made by CyberNews researchers during an ongoing investigation since January 2025, represents what could be the largest credential leak in history. The exposed data sets range dramatically in size, from smaller collections containing tens of millions of records to massive databases housing over 3.5 billion credentials each. The massive trove of stolen data was briefly accessible through unsecured databases before being locked down, though researchers were unable to identify the owners. Most concerning is that virtually all datasets were previously unreported, with only one 184-million-record database having been disclosed before by Wired magazine in May. "Modi ji has mastered the art of slogans, not solutions," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi crticises "Make in India"

New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that despite promises of a 'Make in India' factory boom, manufacturing in the country is at a record low and youth unemployment is very high. Gandhi questioned the effectiveness of the 'Make in India' initiative, highlighting that manufacturing in the country has fallen to a record low of 14 per cent of the economy since 2014. He also pointed to rising youth unemployment and a doubling of imports from China, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of focusing on slogans rather than real solutions. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi shared a video and wrote, 'Make in India' promised a factory boom. So why is manufacturing at record lows, youth unemployment at record highs, and why have imports from China more than doubled? Modi ji has mastered the art of slogans, not solutions. Since 2014, manufacturing has fallen to 14% of our economy.' He highlighted the challenges faced by India's youth, sharing in a post that he met two talented young men, Shivam and Saif, in Nehru Place, New Delhi, who remain unable to fulfil their potential. He criticised the country's current economic model and said, 'In Nehru Place, New Delhi, I met Shivam and Saif - bright, skilled, full of promise - yet denied the opportunity to fulfil it. The truth is stark: we assemble, we import, but we don't build. China profits.' He said that Prime Minister Modi has no new ideas and has given up on growing India's industries. He added that even the important PLI scheme is being quietly stopped. Gandhi called for big changes to help Indian producers with honest reforms and financial support, warning that if India doesn't build its industries, it will keep buying from other countries. 'With no new ideas, Modi ji has surrendered. Even the much-hyped PLI scheme is now being quietly rolled back. India needs a fundamental shift - one that empowers lakhs of producers through honest reforms and financial support. We must stop being a market for others. If we don't build here, we'll keep buying from those who do.
