UP man kills friend's brother, 10, to settlescores; torches body to ‘destroy evidence'

Agra: To settle scores over a personal row, a 24-year-old man from UP sodomised and brutally murdered his friend's 10-year-old brother and tried to destroy evidence by setting the child's body on fire with petrol, police said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The crime took place in Iglas area of Aligarh district. The victim -- a Class 5 student -- went missing on June 17, and when he did not return, his family lodged a missing complaint at the local police station. An FIR was registered initially under section 137-2 (kidnapping) of BNS and an investigation was initiated. Days later, on Friday night, acting on a tip-off, police detained a resident of the same village. He was a friend of the victim's elder brother. During questioning, he confessed to the crime. Police subsequently added sections 5/6 of the Pocso Act along with more BNS sections -- 103-1 (murder) and 238-A (disappearance of evidence of offence) -- in the FIR. SP (rural) Amrit Jain said, "An empty bottle with a few drops of petrol in it, a matchbox and the accused's underwear were recovered from the crime scene. The child's body has been sent for autopsy. Further investigation is on." During questioning, the accused told the cops that around 4 pm on June 17, he took the boy on his motorcycle to his millet farm where he strangled him to death after sodomising him. After killing him and burning the body in the farm, he even tried to bury the remains into the soil. The body was recovered by the cops after they took the accused to the spot. "My elder brother was the best friend of the accused. To settle a score with him over a trivial matter, the accused took my younger brother to a secluded field and did bad things to him, before killing him. To avoid suspicion, he even joined us in our search for my little brother," said the victim's other sibling.
