PM Modi eyes $5T economy as India outgrows Japan: Ambassador Kwatra on fiscal growth trajectory
Washington, DC: India's Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, says "...You mentioned 4.1 trillion GDP that India touched recently. We now have Japan in our rearview. Prime Minister Modi has spoken about taking this to 5 trillion in the coming years, but the eventual goal which we are working towards is to take the Indian economy in the range of 28 to 35 trillion dollars by the year 2047, when we celebrate the centenary of our independence. When we talk of that, and if you position this in the perspective of an investor, for any investor, economic opportunity has to be one of the first drivers for a capital flow to happen. Suppose I'm a four trillion opportunity today looking to become 5, 10, and eventually 30-odd trillion opportunity; that whole journey is not enough in terms of numbers. In that case, it has to be combined with something which the investors truly value. First of all, I would say any investor would look for whether there is systemic stability in the economy, and whether there is systemic stability in the growth of the economy?..."

Dalits have been truly empowered under NDA rule, says BJP
The BJP on Sunday asserted that Dalits were truly empowered under the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and accused the Congress party of using the name of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar only for political gains, while ignoring his vision and disrespecting his ideals. Addressing the media after the State Executive meeting of the BJP SC Morcha at the party office here, MP and SC Morcha national general secretary Bhola Singh said its activists across the country had been actively taking the NDA Government's welfare initiatives to the grassroots. Despite chanting 'Garibi Hatao', the Congress party failed to eradicate poverty, or uplift the poor, Mr. Singh alleged. 'From Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi, no Congress leader truly worked for the poor,' he said. Lauding Mr. Modi's leadership for launching numerous welfare schemes and significantly expanding healthcare infrastructure, he said, 'In the last 11 years, the number of medical colleges has grown substantially, benefitting the underprivileged.' The 'AmritKaal' that Mr. Modi had ushered in saw women empowerment and SC representation in governance, he claimed. 'It is under Mr. Modi's rule that Dalits have been given power. They have been made Governors, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Union Cabinet Ministers,' Mr. Singh said. He also recalled Mr. Modi's tribute to Dr. Ambedkar through development of the 'Panch Teerth' — the five sites marking the birth, education, and contributions of the late leader. Referring to Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Singh said the State was benefitting from the 'double-engine sarkar'. Dalit Sammelans State BJP president and Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari said the party planned to organise 'Dalit Sammelans' across Dalit colonies to create awareness about the party's welfare initiatives and counter misinformation. 'The BJP is the only party that has truly honored Dr. Ambedkar,' she said, recalling Mr. Modi's visit to Dr. Ambedkar's London residence and the government's development of Panch Teerth. Condemning the Congress party for using Dr. Ambedkar's name for political gains, she questioned, 'Can the Congress explain what it has truly done for Ambedkar?' 'Malicious propaganda' Mr. Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 envisaged inclusive development, benefiting farmers, women, and youth, she said. Rejecting the claims of opposition parties that the BJP was anti-Dalit, she pointed to the expansion of welfare programmes, representation in top offices, and SC-focused policies. 'Despite malicious propaganda, people trust Mr. Modi's leadership,' she asserted. Defending the government's constitutional amendments as pro-people, she denounced the Congress for historically disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar and his ideals. 'Only the BJP has respected and implemented Dr. Ambedkar's vision,' she claimed. Earlier, the executive meeting decided to pay tributes to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on June 23 (observed by the party as Balidan Diwas) and undertake a special plantation drive to mark the imposition of Emergency, encouraging citizens to plant a sapling in their mother's name. Ms. Purandeswari also expressed delight that Andhra Pradesh secured two Guinness records on International Day of Yoga, and described it as a proud moment for the State. The meeting was chaired by SC Morcha State president Gudise Devanand. Ms. Purandeswari, SC Morcha national secretaries S. Kumar and P.S. Ashok, BJP State general secretaries B. Sivannarayana and P. Nagabhushanam, and former MLA D. Sambayya were among others who participated.

Sensex, Nifty outlook for June 23–27: Bullish breakout ahead?
The Indian stock market wrapped up a bullish week (June 16–20), with the Sensex closing at 82,408.17 and the Nifty 50 ending at 25,112.40 — both comfortably above key pivot levels. The rally was powered by strong FII inflows, easing RBI provisioning norms for infrastructure loans, declining bond yields, and a dip in volatility and gold prices. Market sentiment got a further boost as the Reserve Bank of India relaxed its earlier draft rule, now requiring just 1% provisioning for under-construction infra loans versus the proposed 5%. This move notably lifted banking and financial stocks. Additionally, easing tensions in the Middle East added to optimism. While geopolitical concerns remain, the US President's statement to delay military involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict hinted at potential diplomatic engagement. Market Performance Recap: Sensex rose 1.5% this week. Nifty 50 added 1.3%. FIIs invested ₹8,709 crore; DIIs added ₹12,635 crore. Global indices, however, underperformed, with the Dow down 1% and the Nasdaq flat. Key Drivers for Next Week (June 23–27): US Economic Data: Focus on GDP and PCE inflation. Geopolitical Developments: Monitoring Middle East tensions and the US-China 90-day truce deadline. Monsoon Progress in India FII/DII Activity and Crude Oil Prices Monthly Derivatives Expiry Volatility Technical Outlook: Resistance: 25,250. A breakout may lead to 25,600–25,800. Support: 24,850–24,800 zone. Breakdown below 24,600 may trigger further correction. Indicators: Nifty is trading above both 21-day and 55-day EMAs, signaling strong momentum. Investor Strategy: Experts advise a stock-specific approach. Look for strength in banking, auto, realty, and IT sectors. Avoid heavy exposure to FMCG, energy, and mid/small caps until clearer signals emerge. Traders are also urged to be cautious of false breakouts near 25,200, especially ahead of monthly expiry. Monitor both global developments and technical resistance levels closely.

Cautious welcome to final notification on area around Kappatagudda Wildlife Sanctuary
Samaj Parivartana Samudaya (SPS) and National Committee for Protection for Natural Resources (NCPNR) have extended a cautious welcome to the final notification declaring 423.7 sq km area as Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around Kappatagudda Wildlife Sanctuary. Now, they plan to hold in-depth discussion with all those concerned. Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Saturday, founder-president of SPS and NCPNR S.R. Hiremath said that while they cautiously welcome the notification, they plan to hold in-depth discussion with all those concerned, including the seer of Gadag Tontdarya Mutt who successfully continues the movement initiated by his predecessor Sri Siddalinga Swami opposing mining and seeking protection to the unique eco system in Kappatagudda. The Kappatagudda Wildlife Sanctuary is spread out over 244.15 sq km comprising four taluks of Gadag district. And, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued the final notification on June 4, declaring 423.7 sq km area around the sanctuary as Eco Sensitive Zone. Mr. Hiremath said that they plan to call for a meeting about the notification and also discuss the need to pressurise the Karnataka government to drop the 18 mining proposals. Earlier, the State government put off (not dropped) the decision on these proposals. The meeting will also deliberate the sustained decade-long people's movement led by the Tontadarya Mutt and various organisations, including SPS and NCPNR, he said. He said that as the government is expected to prepare the zonal master plan in consultation with local communities, various departments and other stakeholders, the proposed meeting will also deliberate the related issues so that the mining proposals are cancelled permanently. Book release Mr. Hiremath, meanwhile, said that during the Emergency, the Indian diaspora in the United States resisted Indira Gandhi's authoritarian rule and many who believed in Gandhian values came together to save India's democracy. A book, The Conscience Network: A chronicle of resistance to a dictatorship, by Sugata Srinivasraju, which records these efforts, will be released in Bengaluru on July 4, he added.
