The 89-times capped former Northern Ireland international made his name with current English Premier League club Burnley before joining Rangers during the summer of 2008. A four-year stay at Ibrox brought three Premiership titles, two League Cup final wins and a single Scottish Cup final triumph as Lafferty scored 31 goals in 104 appearances before linking up with former Rangers and Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso at Swiss club FC Sion. A move into the semi-professional game came during the summer of 2023 as Lafferty penned a two-year deal with Johnstone Bergh - although a serious knee injury suffered in his second game for the club hampered the impact he made during his first season at James Y. Keanie Park. However, the former Hearts man made a big impression last season as he scored the decisive penalty to help the Burgh lift the first Scottish Junior Cup for the first time since 1968. Now 37, Lafferty has committed to one more season with the club and is targeting one last hurrah by guiding the Burgh into the Lowland League before he hangs up his boots. He said: 'I would like to be [at Burgh next season]. I know I am getting on and, if I am here next year, it will probably be my last season. I would like to go out leaving the club in the Lowland League. Even after I hang up my boots, I would like to stay on as a coach at the club. It is something I have looked at. I have my own soccer academy as well so I think I can pass on my experience and hopefully bring the young lads on because I think we don't have a lot of lads from the 21s coming through. Bublik produces masterclass to beat Medvedev in Halle final

June 22 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik beat Daniil Medvedev for the first time in his career to claim the Halle title on Sunday, winning 6-3 7-6(4) to continue his resurgence. Bublik had lost his previous six meetings against Russian Medvedev, winning only one set in the process, but produced a superb exhibition of grass-court tennis to end that streak. Former world number one Medvedev has now lost his last six Tour-level finals. So often the showman, Bublik showed his new maturity with a calm display in the final as he continued the form that saw him beat world number one Jannik Sinner in the last 16 this week. He broke the Medvedev serve in the eighth game of the first set and then held his own with ease to move ahead. Medvedev had a set point when Bublik served at 4-5 in the second set but could do nothing as his wily opponent feathered a delicate drop shot from behind the baseline. Third seed Medvedev then led 4-1 in the tiebreaker but the unseeded Bublik stormed back to complete a memorable week.

'Nobody likes you!': Seething tennis stars have heated row after match, with Yulia Putintseva again involved months after she 'humiliated' ball girl

Two seething tennis players broke out into a heated argument after a match on Sunday with one even telling her rival: 'Nobody likes you!' Maria Sakkari got the better of Yulia Putintseva in straight sets at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, winning 7-5 7-6 in the third round. They observed the usual show of respect after clasping hands over the net but spectators were then shocked after a back-and-forth row began. Wild card Sakkari appeared to be unhappy with the handshake and was heard telling Putintseva to act 'like a human being', to which the Kazakhstani insisted she had. Much of the spat wasn't audible because of the music being pumped out around Centre Court, but a riposte from Putinseva led Sakkari to follow her to her bench. Sakkari eventually walked away but returned again just seconds later, appearing to ask: 'I'm what?' She then clearly said: 'Nobody likes you!' Last year, Putintseva, 30, was involved in another ugly moment during her defeat to Jasmine Paolini at the US Open, leading to her being widely criticised by pundits. Footage showed two balls being thrown towards Putintseva ahead of her next serve, but she ignored them and stared back at the ballgirl without moving. That left the youngster in an awkward position, before Putintseva caught the third ball and resumed the match when she was down 4-2 in the second set. Putintseva was loudly booed and twice apologised for her 'terrible behaviour', insisting she was 'p***ed' at herself rather than the ball girl. 'It's kind of scary the way the world can judge someone from just a three second video, that someone posts from one side, without seeing the rest on what was really happening,' she wrote on social media. 'I was just playing tennis and lost a tough game, which was very close (in my opinion) to turn that match around. After the game (as you can see on a pic) I got very much disappointed and was almost crying, that I didn't do better. Putintseva did not acknowledge the ball girl as she eventually caught the third ball 'At this time the girl was giving me the ball, which I didn't even notice or so, because I was deep in my thoughts… I was not trying to humiliate her (or anyone) by not taking this ball that she was giving to me. 'I didn't do anything disrespectful to anyone at this particular moment. I do apologise, if this girl thinks that it was something towards her. (And btw her name is Kate, very nice girl, which understood that it was nothing towards her). 'I can't say that I am perfect all my career. I am getting angry on court, p***ed, saying stupid stuff and curse like no tomorrow sometimes. Guilty for that. But I did never put myself "on top" of someone. That's just not me at all.'
