Brian McFadden defends Louis Walsh after he was slammed for Boyzone documentary appearance
Westlife's Brian McFadden has come to the defence of his former manager Louis Walsh after his appearance in a Boyzone documentary was slammed by fans. After the release of the three-part docuseries in February, Brian admitted that the X Factor judge "came out of it bad". Louis created and managed the Irish boy group, who catapulted to fame in the 90s and early noughties. The Sky documentary - titled Boyzone: No Matter What - followed the highs and lows of the groups career, and featured new and archived interviews with members Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately , Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Ronan Keating. As their former manager, Louis was also interviewed but came under fire from many viewers, reports the Mirror. This was due to him vocalising how he enjoyed the success of Boyzone, as well as talking about his "cruel" treatment of the band members. In the docuseries, Ronan and Shane recalled the massive media attention that they band received, and how Louis went as far as to plant stories without the band knowing. Outraged fans also criticised Louis for the smile he gave when looking at the front page of Stephen being outed. While Keith remembered the treatment that Stephen received being "absolutely scandalous", their manager was instead seen to smile and remark: "He got the front page." Amidst the backlash that Louis has received from viewers, Westlife's Brian has spoken out and defended his former manager. Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK, he said: "I felt sorry for Louis Walsh. I have to say, I think Louis got a bit of a bum steer in that, to be honest with you. "[He came out of it] terrible. But I understand why… I'm not going to blame the editing, but there was bits I was like, I know how Louis is saying that and then they'll show this horrible story about maybe Stephen, and you're like, 'Oh, that's awful. "And then it would cut to Louis going, 'I don't care. I'd do it again'. And you're, like, Oh, no… That's not what he's [meant]..." Brain also confessed: "He came out of it bad. I think he didn't understand the temperature of the room and what it was going to be. I think he thought it was another fluff piece, like these talking head shows that they do. "I thought he thought it was one of them and didn't realise how dark and sensitive it was going to be." In the docuseries Ronan , who was Boyzone's frontman, accused Louis of ditching him when he decided to try out a solo career that separated the band for a number of years. He also said that the manager made some "really b****y comments". At the beginning of their careers, Shane noted that Louis promised them "the sun, moon and stars". However, Louis was later seen to chuckle: "They believed their own publicity. They forgot I wrote it." Brain isn't the only star to defend Louis, as Union J star Jaymi Hensley-Marmon - who was mentored by the music mogul on X Factor in 2011 - has also spoken about his experience with the judge. He said: "My experience of LouLou is one of pure honesty, care, friendship, and compassion! One of if not the most genuine person I have met in this rollercoaster of showbiz. "As a member of a 'Louis Walsh' boyband , I can say he has always had my back. This Is a truly unremarkably caring man who I am honoured to call a friend! Not what tv producers want you to see, remember that!" After the documentary was released, Louis revealed that he was having chemotherapy after viewers noticed changes in his appearance. He also noted that he was determined to take part in the show and decided to open up on his secret health battle with waldenstrom macroglobulinemia on Celebrity Big Brother.

'Despite tired stereotypes, young people are not disengaged or lacking in ambition. They are brilliant, care about their communities and are deeply connected to the issues shaping society. Simon Cowell sparks concern with outfit choice during London bike ride
Simon Cowell has baffled everyone with his bike-riding attire. The talent show judge was spotted by fans cruising around South London amid the heatwave, which has seen temperatures reach their hottest of the year thus far. But despite the 34°C blaze, which has seen health alerts issued across the country, Simon appeared to be dressing for a totally different season. Captured by TikTok user @plus44unrulyfluffy, the X Factor mogul cycled in Wandsworth wearing some weather-appropriate white shorts and a totally not weather-appropriate, erm, puffer jacket. The BGT judge completed his cycling look with his signature black shades. And he seemed more than happy to pause his ride for a chat with the group who just happened to be sitting in their car, window rolled down. Totally elated at the unexpected encounter, one guy behind the camera is heard declaring: 'Yes, Simon!' 'Are you really on your bike? I can't believe it,' a girl screamed. 'Why are you like this?', she asked him, to which Simon smiled: 'What?' 'On your bike, are you not scared?', she quizzed. 'Well, I got lost, but it is quicker,' Simon replied. 'Please, just go with God, OK?', the fan added as the hysterical interaction continued. 'I will, promise,' Simon beamed, flashing a wave and a thumbs up before cycling off. The whole situation was bananas, to say the least, and viewers in the comments were left in stitches, particularly given what he was wearing at a time when the rest of us are in tank tops and swimwear. 'why does he have a PUFFER jacket in this weather', wrote a puzzled @00unknownuser001. 'A puffer in this weather is crazy', echoed @dontreportedifuge. @kttnt_ added: 'whys he just out? no security? 😭' 'He seemed absolutely delighted with that interaction too 😭', laughed @northernchill12, with plenty of others loving how 'wholesome' it was. Equally amused, @simpleeeteee said: 'He stopped like he just saw his aunty and uncle in traffic tooo funny 😅' Others commented to say they've seen Simon out in the capital on his bike numerous times, just blending in with other commuters. He now rides with confidence; however, it took Simon a while to get back to leisurely cycling after an accident in 2020. The America's Got Talent judge broke his back in August that year after he fell off an electric bike that he was testing at his home in California. He required intense surgery, which included having a metal rod inserted into his back to stabilise it. Then, in 2022, Simon, who is a proud dad to 11-year-old Eric, suffered a second serious crash, after which he admitted he was 'lucky to survive'. Just 18 months after his first incident, Simon went over on the road near his west London home, having made a sharp turn around a corner in wet conditions and felt the bike go 'out from under' him. He was sent crashing to the ground, having been going at a speed of around 20mph. More Trending Simon was rushed to hospital and suffered a broken arm, a badly bruised cheek, and possible concussion. Thankfully, it did not lessen his love for riding, as, when asked if he would be giving up the hobby, he said in an interview later on: 'I'm still gonna stay on my bike. I'm obsessed with these things.' The ordeals also gave Simon a new outlook, as he later shared to The Sun that he 'was so close to living the rest of [his] life in a wheelchair.' 'It gives you a completely different outlook on life. In a positive way,' he said. 'It hurt—trust me—when it happened, but good things happened off the back of it.' Got a story?
