Her husband's work in galleries, auctions, and contemporary art sparked her affinity for art.
"As a brand, we are speaking about it more. In 2020, we used Alma Allen's sculptures in the New York Public Library for our show. We collaborated with estates like the Pollock-Krasner estate to feature Lee Krasner's work and living artists like Brooklyn painter Shara Hughes. We do try to shine a line on New York cultural institutions," she added.
The brand has also stood for working with artisans the world over, whether on aspects of the collection or pieces for the brand's physical spaces.
"We worked with French artist Julie Hamisky, the granddaughter of Claude Melin, and artisanal communities in Peru. I have a project I can't divulge for next spring that shines a light on American female painters," said the designer, who also recently won an American Image Award.
"I've spent my life celebrating women and their voices collectively and making them feel beautiful. This is an incredibly intimate dialogue that I have with women. As the business has grown, I feel honored to be trusted by women this way. I also wear and wear the clothes, so what I do feels natural and personal. I don't love to talk about myself. I much prefer to be sort of sending out things that speak to my heart," Johnson admitted.
Working with artisans elsewhere is topical in today's tariff climate.
"We have to look at this as an opportunity to continue to do things with new regions, but we do make things here. There's a limited capacity for things like embroideries and hand looms. These things, unfortunately, have not been honored and upheld in the United States," she said, noting that the situation will affect some of her long-term partners and small businesses the most.
"It's hurting people that are the last people that should be hurt. My platform enables me to reach a wider audience through what we make and care about. A lot is going on in the US, and it is very complicated right now. I'm more committed to using my voice to shine a light on things that I think are important to speak, defend, and celebrate."

German and French industry united on US aircraft sector tariffs

The German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) wants only US completed products aircraft and helicopters to be targeted by the EU for retaliatory tariffs - leaving the market for the supply of parts unscathed - if trade negotiations between the EU and the US founder, the group has told Euronews. It's position aligns it with the French sector's stance. 'If the EU must respond, counter-tariffs should focus strictly on fully finished aerospace end products – such as complete aircraft and helicopters – and explicitly exclude spare parts or critical products,' BDLI said in an email to Euronews. 'This is essential to avoid unintended harm to European and global production networks.' US aircraft are included in the European Commission's draft list of €95 billion worth of US products that could face duties if ongoing negotiations fail. The list was open for industry consultation until 10 June and now awaits approval by EU member states. BDLI's position mirrors that of Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, who also chairs the French aerospace association GIFAS. Speaking to French media in May, Faury backed tariffs on finished aircraft but warned against measures affecting spare parts, to avoid disrupting the global supply chain. A source familiar with the matter told Euronews that the French government supports the stance of its aerospace industry. In response to the EU's inclusion of aircraft in its draft retaliation list, the US has launched an investigation that could pave the way for the Trump administration to impose additional tariffs on the EU aerospace sector. Trade tensions between the EU and the US risk reigniting the long-standing rivalry between aerospace giants Boeing and Airbus. However, the two economies' production systems are tightly intertwined. For instance, the LEAP engine, used in both Airbus and Boeing jets, is co-produced by US-based General Electric and France's Safran. Aircraft remain a central issue in ongoing EU-US negotiations. Following a discussion with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada on Monday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said both leaders had directed their teams to accelerate negotiation. EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič also met with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Monday, on the margins of the G7. A follow-up meeting with US counterparts is scheduled to take place in Washington on Thursday and Friday, an EU spokesperson confirmed. The US currently imposes tariffs of 50% on EU steel and aluminium, 25% on cars, and 10% on all other EU imports. President Trump has warned he will raise tariffs on all EU imports to 50% if no 'fair' agreement is reached by 9 July.

Meet the 2025 winners of the Best Paris Baguette Award

If there is one thing French people are really serious about, it is most likely bread. Baking is almost an art in France. The baguette has even been granted World Heritage Status by UNESCO. For Parisian bakers, the top honour is to win the Best Paris Baguette Award. The 2025 competition featured 187 bakers from the French capital. Their creations were judged by a jury made up of Deputy Paris Mayor Nicolas Bonnet-Oulaldj, representatives of major professional federations, journalists and four randomly selected Parisians. Judges of this 32nd edition assessed the competing baguettes based on five criteria: appearance, taste, baking quality, crumb and honeycombing. This year's lucky winners are Mickaël Reydellet and Florian Bléas, of the aptly-named La Parisienne boulangerie. Reydellet created his first shop in 2006 and now manages nine bakeries, seven of them in Paris and two in his native Normandy. 'I'm very proud of the teams, because behind this competition is the day-to-day work of the whole staff, and this is not to be overlooked', he told Euronews Culture. Reydellet had already won the contest in 2016. In the past nine years, he worked endlessly to improve his product, despite external challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. 'Wheat harvests change each year. We have to adapt our recipes each time to take this into account ', he explained. 'That's the art of baking.' Like every recipient of the Best Paris Baguette prize, Reydellet and Bléas will have the privilege of delivering their bread to the Élysée Palace during a year. But for him, the French President is a client like any other. 'It's always very interesting to be able to go into the Élysée Palace and serve the most prestigious tables. But we take great care over every single one of our products', Reydellet said. 'Whether it's the President or just another client, we really try to do our job well, and that's what pays off.' Artisans at La Parisienne are no strangers to awards. Reydellet's colleague Mathieu Leveque also won the Best Paris Pastry prize this year, and Aziz Boussaidi earned second place at the contest for the best croissant in the region. After completing its own independent tasting, Euronews Culture can say that Bléas and Reydellet's baguette is a worthy winner. It also largely passes the "Ratatouille" test. As explained by the character of Colette in the 2007 animated Pixar film, a good bread can be recognised by the way its crust sounds. La Parisienne's baguette offers a "symphony of crackle. Only great bread sounds this way.'
