38 members of CPI (Maoist) from Chhattisgarh surrender before Kothagudem police
As security forces intensified anti-Maoist 'Operation Kagar' in neighbouring Chhattisgarh's south Bastar region, as many as 38 militia and front organisation members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) from the strife-torn Bijapur district surrendered before the police in Telangana's Kothagudem town on Friday.
They hail from Ampuram, Gomuguda and Rasapalli villages under Pamed police station limits in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. They have voluntarily surrendered before Bhadrari Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohit Raju, impressed by the rehabilitation policy of Telangana government for the surrendered Maoists, the police said.
Those who surrendered include two CPI (Maoist) members, 16 militia members, seven Village Committee Members (VCMs), six Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sanghatan (KAMS) members, three Chetana Natya Mandali (CNM) members and four Grama Rakshaka Dalams (GRDs) members.
According to the police, a total of 265 CPI (Maoist) members working in various cadres in the banned organisation have surrendered before the Bhadradri Kothagudem district police so far this year.

Bag containing bullets create flutter in Srisailam
The recovery of live bullets and empty shells from near a guest house in the temple town of Srisailam created a flutter on Monday. Srisailam Circle Inspector G. Prasada Rao said workers, while cleaning the town, found a red bag lying adjacent to the road divider in front of Vasavi Guest House. When they opened it, they found live bullets in it. Terrified, they alerted the police. Bomb Disposal Squad and police rushed to the spot and took the bag into their possession. They found six live 303 calibre bullets, five SLR bullets, four 9 mm bullets and four empty SLR shells. The bag was handed over to Sunnipenta police station for investigation. Police are verifying CCTV footage to ascertain who had left the bag. Senior officials ruled out the involvement of Maoists and said the Nallamala forest ranges were free of Maoist movement from the past decade or even more. Sources said that the bullets belonged to special party police and handed over to the officials concerned.

Security forces role in defeating Naxalism will be etched in golden letters: Shah
New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday commended the security personnel, stating that when the saga of victory over Naxalism is written, the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication of security personnel will be etched in golden letters. Addressing the security personnel, Shah paid tribute to the courage, valour, sacrifice, and dedication of the Central Armed Police Forces, the CoBRA teams, Chhattisgarh Police, and the District Reserve Guard (DRG), a Home Ministry statement said. He said, "I have full faith that it is the bravery and tireless efforts of our security forces that make the battle against Naxalism a success." Shah said that security forces worldwide have been astonished by the way security forces have dismantled Maoist hideouts with immense courage, patience, and commitment. "I know that what our jawans set out to achieve, they always accomplish," he added. He further asserted, "It is the trust in our security forces inspired by which I keep reiterating that we will eradicate Naxalism before the 31st of March 2026." Shah said Naxalism has been a major catastrophe for poor tribal regions, leading to the deaths of nearly 40,000 people over the last 35 years, while many more have been left disabled. He said that Naxal violence deprived the poor tribal population of basic necessities such as food, electricity, education, housing, toilets, and clean drinking water — let alone any possibility of industrial development. Entire regions were forced to live in conditions akin to slavery for decades, and the root cause of this suffering was Naxalism. The Home Minister expressed satisfaction that, as Naxalism is being eliminated from various regions, the Chhattisgarh government is ensuring the delivery of food, healthcare, education, electricity, housing, sanitation, and clean drinking water — thereby connecting people with the mainstream of development. 'When a child picks up a pencil instead of a gun and begins writing 'Ka, Kha, Ga', it doesn't just change the future of that child, but of the entire nation. That moment is very close,' Shah said. He further stated that when the country becomes free from Naxalism in March 2026, it will be one of the most significant moments since Independence. He said that when the history of the eradication of Naxalism is written, the sacrifice, devotion, and hard work of our security forces will be inscribed in golden letters. The Home Minister also released the book 'Leor Oyna' on the occasion. The book is based on the lives of victims of Naxal violence. It will help in understanding the pain of those innocent and unarmed people who fell prey to the ruthless violence inflicted by Naxalites. In Nilambur bypoll win, Congress candidate Shoukath outstrips father's electoral record
Nilambur (Kerala): Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath, who on Monday registered a stellar victory at the Nilambur Assembly by-election in Kerala by securing 77,737 votes to win with a margin of 11,077 votes, has bettered his late father and long-time MLA Aryadan Mohammed's electoral performance. Aryadan Mohammed was a legend in Nilambur by winning a record eight times and losing thrice. However, Shoukath won the seat in his second poll battle - after losing in 2016, but his father could win only in his third attempt in the 1977 polls after losing in 1965 and 1967. In the present election, CPI-M candidate finished second, and got 66,660 votes. More importantly, the Congress-led UDF has regained Nilambur for the first time after the 2011 Assembly polls. In 2016, P.V. Anvar, fielded as a Left-backed independent candidate, beat Shoukath by 11,504 votes, and he retained the seat in 2021, defeating the then Congress candidate by 2,800 votes. This time, Anvar, whose resignation necessitated the bypoll, contested as an independent candidate and got 19,760 votes, while the BJP's candidate Mohan George ended up with 8,648 votes and forfeited his deposit money. However, Anvar surprised all with the number of votes he managed to secure. CPI-M state Secretary reflecting on the defeat, claimed that the UDF has lost votes in the bypolls said as compared to the 2021 polls. "For us, this is one constituency where we cannot win in a political fight, and we have won when we put up independent candidates. The votes for the BJP-led NDA have come down as compared to 2016, and since the BJP candidate never had a chance, their votes have gone elsewhere. Moreover, the votes of the Jamat-e-Islami, all know where they have gone from the words of the Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan. The tactic of the Congress is to use both majority and minority communalism, and has resulted in the victory of the Congress," Govindan maintained, adding that the Left worked only for secular votes, and they will go forward in the same manner. "This has nothing to do with any wave against the Left government, and we are on track to form a third successive Left government," he said, referring to the Assembly elections due next year. On his part, Satheesan said this victory is for the 'Team UDF'. 'We, right from the start of our campaign, were able to sense that there was a massive anger against the (Chief Minister Pinarayi) Vijayan government's nine years of rule. The Team UDF, comprising leaders and workers, worked very hard, and we got exactly what we had expected. We will continue to work as Team UDF as we are going to win a landslide win at the 2026 Assembly polls," he asserted.
