
INS Arnala to be commissioned tomorrow
Visakhapatnam: The
is set to commission its anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW-SWC) Arnala at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on June 18. The commissioning ceremony, to be presided over by chief of defence staff general Anil Chauhan, will be hosted by vice-admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, flag officer commanding-in-chief, Eastern Naval Command (ENC).

Arnala, designed and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, in collaboration with L&T Shipbuilders, marks a significant milestone in the
initiative in defense manufacturing. The warship was delivered to the Indian Navy on May 8 and is the first of 16 ASW-SWC class ships to be inducted.
Named after the Arnala Fort off Vasai, Maharashtra, the 77-meter-long warship reflects India's rich maritime heritage. With a gross tonnage of over 1,490, a maximum speed of 25 knots, and endurance of 1,800 nautical miles (approximately 3,300 km), INS Arnala is the largest Indian Naval warship to be propelled by a diesel engine-waterjet combination.
