OPEN// German FM describes Egypt as 'strategic partner, gateway to Africa'
CAIRO, June 13 (MENA) - German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Friday lauded Egypt as a strategic partner and Berlin's gateway to Africa, emphasizing strong bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
He expressed pride in the bilateral partnership, which he described as solid and multifaceted.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, Wadephul noted that Egypt enjoys a strong reputation in Germany, adding that German students are well acquainted with Egyptian history, and that around half a million Egyptians are currently learning the German language, reflecting deep cultural ties between the two nations.
On security coordination and economic cooperation, Wadephul emphasized the strategic importance of the Suez Canal, calling it one of the world's most vital maritime trade routes.
He stressed that it must remain open and secure, particularly in light of regional tensions in the Red Sea, and warned against any terrorist threats that could disrupt maritime navigation.
The German minister also emphasized his country's openness to cooperation with Egypt in all fields, especially regarding qualified Egyptian professionals, noting a particular interest in German-speaking talent for opportunities in Germany.
He reiterated Germany's commitment to encouraging investment in Egypt, underscoring the importance of a stable investment climate, legal clarity for business permits, and ongoing political and economic stability in Egypt. 'There are plenty of shared opportunities between our two countries,' he concluded, 'and it is our joint responsibility to seize them.' (MORE)

OPEN// PM: Egypt to deploy 3 LNG regasification ships in July
CAIRO, June 21 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli announced that Egypt will have three LNG regasification ships operating by early July to supply the national gas grid, ensuring stable energy for households and industry during peak summer demand. The announcement came during a visit to Ain Sokhna to inspect final preparations at the new LNG import infrastructure. The second regasification vessel, Energos Eskimo, has arrived and will begin operations by the end of June, adding 750 million cubic feet of gas per day. A third ship is being prepared at Dekheila Port in Alexandria and will also start operation in early July. These ships join Hoegh Galleon, which has been operational since last year. Madbouli added that the move is part of a temporary strategy to cover gas needs while local production ramps back up. He also confirmed that two new gas production lines from Shell and Eni will start next month, including increased volumes from the Zohr field. Additionally, he emphasized that the LNG plan was initiated months before recent regional tensions and is not a response to external events. CAIRO, June 21 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a phone call on Saturday with Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa that focused on the latest regional developments. During the phone call, both leaders expressed deep concern over the ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran, warning the expansion of the conflict would have serious consequences on all regional countries, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy said. They asserted the need for all parties involved to act responsibly and work towards resolving the current crisis through negotiations and peaceful means. They also highlighted the importance of the international community taking up its responsibilities in this regard. Shennawy added that both leaders stressed that the current regional escalation is linked to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. They underscored the urgent necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and warned of the humanitarian catastrophe facing the enclave. The two leaders called for immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to save the lives of people in Gaza, Shennawy added. Furthermore, both leaders reaffirmed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains the only viable guarantee for achieving lasting regional stability, the spokesman said.
