India's June flash composite PMI output index rises to 61.0, highest in 14 months

India's private sector activity accelerated sharply in June 2025, with the HSBC Flash India Composite PMI Output Index climbing to 61.0, up from 59.3 in May, marking the strongest monthly expansion in 14 months, according to data released by S&P Global.
This surge was driven by robust increases in both manufacturing and services activity. The HSBC Flash India Manufacturing PMI rose to 58.4 in June from 57.6 in May, while the Services PMI Business Activity Index increased to 60.7 from 58.8.
Key factors behind this momentum included: A record rise in new export orders since the series began in 2014.
since the series began in 2014. Strengthened demand from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas .
. Increased hiring, especially in the manufacturing sector.
Softer input cost inflation, reaching a 10-month low.
Commenting on the data, HSBC's Chief India Economist Pranjul Bhandari noted that India's strong growth in June was primarily fueled by export demand and rising backlogs, which in turn encouraged more hiring. Although both input and output prices rose, the pace of inflation moderated from earlier highs.
The data, collected between June 9 and 18, signals strong momentum as India closes out the first quarter of FY26, with sustained optimism among businesses despite a slight decline in overall sentiment compared to previous months.

UK Private Sector Grows at Fastest Pace Since Trump Tariffs Hit
(Bloomberg) — The UK private sector expanded at a marginally faster pace in June, helping ease worries of an economic contraction in the second quarter, according to a closely watched survey. Bezos Wedding Draws Protests, Soul-Searching Over Tourism in Venice One Architect's Quest to Save Mumbai's Heritage From Disappearing NYC Congestion Toll Cuts Manhattan Gridlock by 25%, RPA Reports S&P Global (SPGI) said its purchasing managers' index rose to 50.7 in June, up from 50.3 in May and above analyst expectations, according to provisional estimates published Monday. The reading is slightly above the 50 threshold indicating expansion, and marks a recovery to levels last seen in March, just before Donald Trump's tariff announcements hit confidence and slashed exports to the US. The report will provide some relief for the Labour government, which is struggling to deliver sustained economic growth against a backdrop of higher taxes, trade wars and now an escalating conflict in the Middle East. Firms said the UK's trade deal with the US helped restore client confidence and improve orders, while falling borrowing costs are also helping demand. However, the survey suggests UK growth remains lackluster. Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence, said the PMI results point to growth of just 0.1% in the second quarter. 'Although business conditions have continued to improve since April's downturn, quelling recession fears, growth of business activity remains disappointingly lacklustre,' said Williamson. Services activity continued to expand at a modest pace, partly offsetting a sharp contraction in manufacturing. Companies across the board reported declines in demand for exports amid US tariffs and heightened geopolitical tensions. Employers also shed staff for a ninth consecutive month, resorting to layoffs and hiring freezes to cope with higher cost pressures. The survey also highlighted some early signs of improving business conditions. Inflationary pressures eased to their lowest level in three months, while new order volumes rose for the first time in six months. The average prices charged by UK firms also rose at the slowest pace since 2021. 'The picture of near-stalled growth, falling employment and lower inflation opens the door for the Bank of England to cut rates again at its next policy meeting in August,' said Williamson. —With assistance from Tom Rees. HSBC's Return-to-Office Push Risks Denting CEO's Savings Plan
HSBC Holdings Plc is forecasting hundreds of millions in extra real estate costs as it considers asking more of its employees to return to the office, potentially hindering the bank in its bid to find $1.5 billion in annual cost savings. Chief Executive Officer Georges Elhedery will have to make a series of decisions in the coming weeks over whether to acquire more desk space for the lender's staff in London, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Guangzhou, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be identified discussing internal deliberations. Securing the required space to support a return to three days a week in those cities would cost around $200 million a year, one of the people said.
