Rich agricultural produce enhances Ramadan meals in AlUla

ALULA — AlUla is renowned for its diverse agricultural crops, which play a significant role in enriching iftar and suhoor meals during the holy month of Ramadan.
The region's unique natural environment provides fresh, high-quality produce that graces the tables of residents and visitors, reflecting a deep-rooted connection to the land across generations.
Dates are among AlUla's most prominent crops, distinguished by their high quality and diverse varieties, including barni, halwa, and ajwa.
The region also produces a variety of seasonal fruits such as citrus (oranges of various types and sizes, and lemons), as well as pomegranates, figs, and grapes. These fruits not only add a refreshing touch to suhoor meals but also provide essential vitamins and nutrients for those fasting. Additionally, they support local markets and meet community needs during Ramadan.
Fresh vegetables, including cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers, are cultivated using sustainable agricultural methods. These ingredients are essential in Ramadan dishes and salads, contributing to a balanced diet for those observing the fast. Many farms in AlUla rely on modern irrigation techniques to ensure year-round sustainable production of high-quality crops.
Agriculture in AlUla is deeply intertwined with the region's heritage, with farmers leveraging fertile soil and a favorable climate to grow crops that sustain both residents and visitors. During Ramadan, the demand for fresh, nutritious produce significantly increases.
According to statistics from the Agricultural Sector of the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate, the governorate's annual fruit production is estimated at 127,000 tons, covering an area exceeding 18,000 hectares.
Grain production is estimated at more than 800 tons across 200 hectares, while fodder production spans over 2,000 hectares, yielding more than 40,000 tons annually.
The cultivation of open-field winter vegetables exceeds 60 hectares, with an annual yield of over 1,565 tons, while open-field summer vegetable production surpasses 2,150 tons across 101 hectares. Additionally, protected vegetable farms cover approximately 25 hectares, producing more than 1,500 tons annually.

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi Heritage Commission announced on Sunday the registration of 5,969 new urban heritage sites in the National Urban Heritage Register, bringing the total number of registered sites to 34,171. This reflects the richness and diversity of architectural heritage in various regions of the Kingdom. The new registration list included several sites across various regions of the Kingdom. The Riyadh Region has 258 sites; Makkah Region: 483 sites; Qassim Region: 761 sites; Asir Region: 3,893 sites; Al-Baha Region: 499 sites; Hail Region: 60 sites; Jazan Region: 8 sites; Al-Jouf Region: 4 sites; and the Eastern Province: three sites. This registration was made in accordance with regulations related to antiquities and urban heritage, and in accordance with the decision of the Heritage Commission's Board of Directors to delegate the authority's CEO to register urban heritage sites. This is intended to enhance the protection of these sites from encroachment or neglect and ensure their preservation for future generations. The commission emphasized that this step is part of its strategic plan to expand the scope of legal protection for heritage sites and enable their rehabilitation in a way that enhances national identity and highlights their cultural and historical value as living testaments to the Kingdom's architectural heritage. The commission called on all members of society to support its efforts to monitor and register heritage sites by reporting them via the "Balagh" service, communicating with the commission through its official social media channels, or by calling the number of the Unified Security Operations Center 911. The commission emphasized that community participation is a key component in preserving and activating the national urban heritage.

ALULA: A workshop, titled Safe Handling of Palm and Date Pest Pesticides, was held on Friday in the AlUla Governorate. The event, which was organized by the National Center for Palms and Dates, in collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla, took place in the agricultural sector of the commission's headquarters. The workshop targeted farm owners, agricultural workers, and those interested in the sector. It aimed to raise awareness about safe pesticide use while enhancing efficiency in agricultural pest control in a way that improves production quality while ensuring environmental safety. The workshop was part of a series of different guidance programs and workshops implemented by the National Center for Palms and Dates throughout the year in many regions of the Kingdom. Saudi Gazette report MADINAH — Several exhibitions and knowledge centers within the courtyards and halls of the Prophet's Mosque are offering enriching cultural and educational experiences to pilgrims and visitors during the Hajj season, showcasing the depth of Islamic heritage and the warm hospitality of Madinah. Among the key attractions is the Exhibition on the Architecture of the Prophet's Mosque, located in the southern square opposite exits 308 and 309. Open daily from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the exhibition highlights the architectural evolution of the mosque through interactive displays and modern presentation techniques. Nearby, the International Exhibition of the Prophet's Biography, situated in front of exits 306 and 307, operates from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The exhibition offers visitors a contemporary, immersive experience into the life and character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), presenting his values and message through multimedia Facility 204 in the southern square, the Rare Manuscripts Exhibition welcomes guests from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 features a remarkable collection of historical manuscripts, documents, and inscriptions that chronicle the development of Islamic calligraphy and literature across the Prophet's Mosque Library, located near Gate 10 on the western side, provides around-the-clock services to comprises several specialized sections, including rare books, manuscripts, an audio library, and various technical Rare Books and Manuscripts Section, situated inside the mosque near the Uthman Gate, is a key destination for scholars and houses more than 4,000 original manuscripts, around 60,000 digital manuscripts, 4,600 imaged manuscripts, as well as 250 handwritten Qur'ans and 200 printed Qur' section operates in two shifts: from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
