The family-centric film ShashtiPoorthi, directed by Pavan Prabha and produced by actor–producer Rupeysh under the MAA AAIE Productions banner, is all set to release on May 30. Starring Rupeysh and Akanksha Singh in the lead roles, the film also features stalwarts like Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Archana in pivotal roles. As part of its promotional campaign, the makers released the much-awaited trailer during a grand event at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada.
The trailer opened on a poignant note, highlighting the deep emotional bonds between parents and children. Dialogue such as 'A mother is someone we love without even knowing who she is' and 'It is my duty to correct what is wrong… Protecting justice is my profession' set the tone for a story rich in values and introspection. Rajendra Prasad's moving line — 'Don't talk about change when you love habits, not the person' — struck an emotional chord, with the trailer concluding on intense and thought-provoking notes.
MLAs Gadde Ramamohan and Bode Prasad graced the event as chief guests. Gadde lauded Rajendra Prasad's timeless charm and reflected on how films like Aa Naluguru preserved societal values. Bode Prasad, attending a film event for the first time, expressed admiration for Rajendra Prasad and lyricist Chaitanya Prasad, hoping for the film's grand success.
Rajendra Prasad humorously acknowledged being typecast for age-appropriate roles, quipping about his own ShashtiPoorthi. He praised the team and highlighted the unique theme of children witnessing their parents' remarriage — a rare cinematic celebration of Telugu culture.
The cast and crew shared heartfelt anecdotes. Rupeysh credited director Pavan for bringing the story to life and said he now only wants to work with Rajendra Prasad. He also thanked veterans like Ilaiyaraaja and Thota Tharani for lending their artistic genius to the film. Archana recalled working with Rajendra Prasad after two decades, while Akanksha Singh expressed deep emotional attachment to her role. Lyricist Chaitanya Prasad shared his humbling experience working with Ilaiyaraaja.
With soulful music, strong performances, and a culturally resonant narrative, ShashtiPoorthi is shaping up to be a film that touches hearts and celebrates traditions. The film hits screens on May 30.

Director Basil Joseph dismisses rumours of Allu Arjun replacing Ranveer Singh as Shaktimaan in film reboot: ‘Whoever is spreading these…'

For late millennials and early Gen Zers, the Hindi superhero television series Shaktimaan is not just a fond memory but a defining part of their childhood. So, when reports emerged that a film adaptation of Shaktimaan was in the works, the child in every now-adult fan was ecstatic. However, since then, the project has mostly made headlines for the wrong reasons, particularly due to heavy-handed statements from the TV show's creator Mukesh Khanna. Although rumours have been rife that Minnal Murali director and Malayalam actor Basil Joseph would helm the project, with Bollywood star Ranveer Singh in the titular role, Mukesh Khanna has firmly denied the latter part time and again, stating that Ranveer 'doesn't have the correct face' for the character. Recently, another rumour surfaced suggesting that Telugu superstar Allu Arjun had replaced Ranveer Singh in the upcoming film reboot. Interestingly, Mukesh had once acknowledged that Arjun 'has it in him to be Shaktimaan'. While Arjun's fans were thrilled by the speculation, Basil Joseph has categorically denied the reports, reiterating that Ranveer Singh remains the only choice for the character. 'Shaktimaan will be made only with Ranveer Singh,' senior film journalist Subhash K Jha quoted Basil as saying. A source close to the project echoed this sentiment and told Jha, 'No one else is doing Shaktimaan. It is Ranveer Singh and no one else. Whoever is spreading rumours of his replacement clearly has their own agenda.' Now, it needs to be seen what Mukesh Khanna's response to this would be, particularly since he has repeatedly asserted that Ranveer Singh is not suited for the role. 'People know that Ranveer Singh came to convince me for allowing him to reprise the role of Shaktiman. I can't hide it also because later people said that I lauded Ranveer and called him a terrific actor. News of Ranveer being confirmed to play Shaktiman started coming but I hadn't agreed to it. I also have a conflict with Sony and I had put up a video clarifying that I haven't approved Ranveer to play the role and the reason is that…Ranveer sat in front of me that day for 3 hours but ultimately I had to tell him that what needs to be seen on his face wasn't there. He looks playful, like someone who would trick others,' he told Bollywood Thikana in September last year. However, his repeated comments sparked controversy, prompting Mukesh to clarify that he meant no disrespect towards Ranveer. At a press conference, when asked whether he made Ranveer wait at his office for hours, the Shaktimaan actor responded, 'No. I didn't force him to wait. He sat for three hours because he wanted to. He came to my office, we enjoyed each other's company. He's a terrific actor, he has terrific energy. But I decide who plays Shaktimaan. Producers cast actors, an actor can't cast a producer. You come to my office and say that you want to be Shaktimaan, it's not allowed!' Also, let me go out on a limb and say that he has it in him to be Shaktimaan. I am not saying he is doing it or anything. I'm just suggesting that it would look good on him. He has the personality to pull it off.'

‘What wrong is Deepika demanding?': Kajol and Rani did 8-hour shifts too, says director Siddharth P. Malhotra as Bollywood debate heats up

Agencies Deepika Padukone's reported exit from Spirit over her request for an eight-hour workday has reignited debate on humane work hours in Indian cinema. Director Siddharth P Malhotra defended her stance, citing past examples like Rani Mukerji and Kajol who also worked limited shifts post-motherhood. Last month, reports broke that Deepika Padukone had stepped away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's much-anticipated Telugu cop drama Spirit . The reason? Her request for an eight-hour workday. The demand, made just eight months after the birth of her daughter Dua Padukone, sparked debate across the industry and social media, with many questioning whether actors should dictate such terms in big-budget productions. Now, director Siddharth P Malhotra has come out in her support, pointing out that such working conditions are not only reasonable but have long existed in the industry. Speaking to IANS, Malhotra recalled wrapping his 2018 film Hichki —starring Rani Mukerji—in just 28 eight-hour shifts. The film, produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, marked Rani's return to the screen after giving birth to her daughter Adira in 2015. 'For 14 months, I have been there in front of her face. So I kept asking myself, 'Is it going to be worth it?'' Rani had shared in a past interview, reflecting on her emotional struggle as a new mother rejoining work. But Malhotra confirmed the working hours were kept tight and clear. 'She's asking for family time, what wrong is she demanding?' he asked bluntly. 'People are just gaining publicity in the name of Deepika Padukone.' Malhotra also pointed to his debut film We Are Family (2010), in which lead actor Kajol, a mother herself at the time, insisted on fixed working hours. 'When I shot with Kajol in 2010, she used to do eight-hour shifts. She made it very clear she'd either come from 10 am to 6 pm or 7 am to 2 pm,' he said, underscoring that the practice predates the current noise around Deepika's decision. Kajol recently echoed this sentiment to PTI, stating, 'I didn't work for 20 or 30 hours. I was always very clear that we would work a certain amount only, and my mom (veteran actor Tanuja) also backed me up big time on it.' Malhotra believes that directors should match their production plans with the availability of their actors—especially when such conditions are set transparently from the outset. 'If Deepika Padukone has made these conditions clear right from the start, then the director shouldn't work with her if it doesn't suit them,' he said. 'If I need an actor and am confident I can finish the film within those working hours, I'd work with them even for six hours a day.' He added that if Vanga's vision for Spirit required longer working hours, he was within his rights to recast. And that's exactly what has happened: Vanga has now brought Animal star Triptii Dimri on board as the lead opposite Prabhas in the film. While the industry is known for grueling shifts and punishing timelines, the conversation sparked by Padukone's stance opens a new chapter—one that addresses work-life balance, especially for women returning to work post-motherhood.
