Long-standing The Project panellist Steve Price gets emotional in final appearance

A long-time panellist on The Project has become emotional while reminiscing on his time at the legendary show. A tear welled up in the eye of Steve Price, a long-term media commentator and television and radio host, appeared regularly on the show for some 15 years and a tear welled up in his eye as he say goodbye on Monday night. The recently axed show will stop airing on Friday and Monday marked Mr Price's final appearance. He appeared as a panellist since the show first aired in 2009 as The 7PM Project before its name was changed to The Project in 2011. When asked by a fellow host how he was feeling about the show concluding, he said he was 'sad'. 'I don't know what I'm going to do next Monday night,' he said. 'My daughter Kate is here tonight and she was 11 when I started doing this, so she was still in primary school. 'I've been very privileged to sit here. I've always been amazed that an old white guy like me sitting on the end of the bench was ever going to be allowed to stay for more than a week and I stayed here for 15 years.' Price, who also hosts a Friday evening program on Sky News, writes columns for the Saturday Herald Sun and has previously worked in radio. He praised his co-hosts and saluted the people who worked behind-the-scenes on the show. 'The on-air hosts have been fantastic. They've all been very generous and kind to me,' he said.

The Project star Steve Price tears up as he bids farewell to co-stars Waleed Aly and Sarah Harris

Steve Price became visibly emotional during his last ever appearance on The Project on Monday evening. Price, who has been a regular fixture on the show for well over a decade, said his goodbyes to his co-stars as he gushed about his favourite memories of being on the Channel 10 panel show. Showing his softer side, Price revealed that he had brought along his daughter to watch his final show. 'My daughter Kate's here tonight,' shared Price as he appeared to tear up. 'She was 11 when I started doing this. She was still in primary school.' 'I have been very privileged to sit here. I have always been amazed that an old white guy like me sitting on the bench would ever be allowed to stay for more than a week. And it's turned into 15 years!' 'I love the crew behind this show. They are the best in the world. The product they do. And the on-air hosts have been fantastic. You've all been very generous and kind to me,' he added. 'Pricey, before we go, I just want to say - it has been a joy to work with you, mate,' added Price's co-star, Waleed Aly as Monday's show came to an end. It was confirmed last week that current affairs and entertainment panel program was wrapping up at the end of June after 16 years on air, with hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald all leaving the network. Another of The Project's departing regular panellists, comedian Sam Taunton, broke his silence on the show's axing during his latest stand-up routine, joking about his family's reaction to the news. 'It's just like everyone f**king knows you've lost your job and it's crazy,' said the comedian. 'My dad rang me and said: 'Look, if I'm honest, the show wasn't for me. I prefer real news.'' He continued: 'My girlfriend just sent me a Google Docs spreadsheet that said 'Chores now that Sam's unemployed.'' Taunton also revealed during his set that co-star Aly had warned him about the attention they would be receiving after the news was announced to the world that the show was coming to an end. 'It's weird losing your job very publicly. Waleed, you might know that guy. He texted me on Wednesday and he goes, he goes, I'm so sorry, Sam. Get prepared. I just got papped by the paparazzi outside Chemist Warehouse near the studio.'
